Dr. Zink was born in Omaha, Neb., July 29, 1912, and received his undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Nebraska, completing his M.D. in 1937. During his university years, he helped pay for his education by playing the piano and leading a popular 15-piece dance band. The group played on alternate Saturday nights with another local dance band led by Lawrence Welk. The two bandleaders reunited 30 years later.

Twenty years later, that partnership was amicably dissolved. He continued in solo medical practice until 1977 when he semi-retired.

During World War II, Dr. Zink volunteered for the Navy as a flight surgeon and served three years in the United States and Grand Cayman before being discharged as a lieutenant commander in November 1945. He then resumed private practice in Tulare.

During his 40-year medical career in Tulare, Dr. Zink was a member and former president of the Rotary Club, the 20-30 Club, the Elks Club, the Tulare County Medical Society, the Tulare Country Club, the Visalia Country Club and the Psoriasis Club. Dr. Zink also served as Chief of Staff at Tulare District Hospital.

Dr. Zink was a lifelong golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was also a local rancher with acreage primarily consisting of walnuts and Santa Rosa plums. In 1973, he was widowed, and in 1974, he married Joan Weisner, a resident of Visalia. In 1980, the Zinks began spending the winter months in Mexico, and in 1991, they moved from Tulare to Visalia. Dr. Zink is survived by his wife; two daughters, Claudia Lee of Cypress and Marcia Meeker of Princeton, N.J.; three granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
