J. Madge Snow

Madge Snow was born in DeWar, Okla., on Aug. 7, 1914, to a family of two sisters, Ruth Young and Ora Hertzog, and two brothers, Ted and Jack Smith. The family moved to  Washington in the mid-1920s and shortly thereafter settled in Shafter.

On Oct. 11, 1930, she married Frank Frederick Jacobsen and became the mother of a son and a daughter, Frankie L. Hilderbrand and Ted J. Jacobsen. Frank showered love and attention on Madge and his children. The couple lived in Bakersfield until they divorced in 1947.

On Nov. 11, 1948, she married Gordon Snow, and together they traveled through Europe, Mexico and Hawaii. They lived in Bakersfield for many years and were active in community theater. In the 1950s, Madge was voted the most beautiful woman in Kern County several times. She and Gordon later relocated to Santa Barbara, where they flourished in the real estate business. Even though they later divorced, they remained lifelong friends.

After the divorce, Madge returned to Bakersfield to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Madge was the guiding matriarch of her family who instilled a love for God, music and all things beautiful on the earth in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Madge is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Billie Jacobsen; her daughter and son-in-law, Frankie and Vern Hilderbrand; her grandchildren Pico and Mark Griffith, Scott Hilderbrand, Jennifer Jacobsen and Christina Thurman, and David and Sherry Jacobsen; and her great-grandchildren Ashley, Travis and Kristen Griffith.

She will be missed and loved eternally by all those whose lives she touched.

Arrangements are by Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia.

Marguerite Weathermon

Homemaker

TULARE -- Marguerite Weathermon, 88, of Tulare died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001. She was a homemaker.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at North Tulare Cemetery. Arrangements are by Miller's Tulare Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation, UCSF-Fresno Foundation, 1343 N. Wishon, Fresno, CA 93728.

June M. Wells

Senior account clerk

June M. Wells, 79, of Visalia died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001. She was a senior account clerk for Tulare County.

She was born in New Haven, Conn. She was a resident of Tulare County for 53 years. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Visalia, member of The Tulare County League of Women Voters and past president of Visalia/Tulare Emblem Club, member of Tulare County Retired Employee Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Wells, in 1991 and by one sister and three brothers.

Survivors include a son, Chuck Wells and wife, Kathy, of Modesto; two daughters, Barbara Wells Weaver, and husband, David, of Tustin and Debra Wells Williams, and husband, Jim, of Visalia; grandsons, Mark and Steven Wells of Modesto and Chris Williams of Visalia; sisters, Emily Culliton of New Haven, Conn., Mary Rice of New Haven, Conn., and Nell Parisi of New Haven, Conn.; brothers, Robert Ottenbreit and Dwight Ottenbreit both of New Haven, Conn., and survived by many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Monday at The First Baptist Church of Visalia, 1100 S. Sowell Ave., Visalia. Private burial will be at the Exeter District Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hamilton Peers Lorentzen Funeral Service, Tulare.

Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Tulare County, 900 W. Oak Ave., Visalia, CA 93291.

Velma Williams

Homemaker

RIALTO -- Velma Williams, of Rialto died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001. She was a homemaker.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hamilton Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel, Tulare. Interment will be at Tulare District Cemetery.

Rupert Lee Mullins

Interior design sales

Rupert Lee Mullins was born on Oct. 9, 1931, in Witts Springs, Ark., and passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Visalia at the age of 69. He came to California in 1943 at a young age, settling, in Ivanhoe, where he was raised and educated.
He worked in furniture sales with Morris Furniture for 30 years and worked in interior design sales with Crossroads Furniture in Tulare, before retirement. Rupert married Barbara Minter in Visalia in 1954. The couple made their home in Visalia.

Rupert was a member of the West Visalia Church of Christ. He began leading singing in the church at the age of 12 and it became one of the great loves of his life. He also enjoyed golf, travel, camping, going to the ocean and especially being around his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Mullins of Visalia; children, Mark Lee Mullins of Galt, Steve Mullins and Judy Cornett of Visalia, and Jon Mullins of Lancaster; brothers, Kenneth Mullins of Tulare and David Mullins of Visalia; sister, Sylvia Wheeler of Visalia; and grandchildren, Jason, Darren and Hannah Morse of Visalia, Heather Ryan and Sean Mullins of Galt, and Brandon Mullins of Visalia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Bumgarner, in 1998.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Services, Visalia. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Visalia District Cemetery with a memorial service following at the West Visalia Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to West Visalia Church of Christ Building Fund, 4525 W. Caldwell, Visalia, CA.

Marjorie A. Miller

Retired registered nurse

Marjorie (Marge) A. Lane Miller was born on June 16, 1918, in Decker, Ind. She passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001. She was the valedictorian of her senior class at Decker High School in 1936. She graduated from Vincennes University in 1938 and from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in 1940 as a registered nurse. She married Ray Miller in 1943 at Duncan Field Army Air Base in San Antonio,  Texas. They settled in Exeter, where they owned and operated Paragon Cleaners for 30 years.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Ray Miller; daughter, Lana Miller Brown; son, Gary Miller of Visalia; and cousin, Sonny Howard and wife, Eva, of Sacramento.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Lemoncove. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia.

Remembrances may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Lemon Cove.

William 'Bill' McFarland

Maintenance supervisor

TULARE -- William Marcus "Bill" McFarland Sr., 63, of Tulare died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001. He was a maintenance supervisor for J.D. Heiskell Co.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today at Goble-Miller Funeral Chapel, Tulare. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Interment will be at North Tulare Cemetery.

Catherine Marshall

Retired Realtor

Catherine Marshall, 94, of Visalia died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001. She was a retired Realtor.
Catherine was born in Park City, Utah, to Chester and Ruth Marshall and grew up in Park City and Salt Lake City, where Catherine attended local schools and the University of Utah. Catherine was employed by Western Union and worked for the War Department prior to becoming a Realtor in Los Angeles' Westwood area from the early 1950s until she retired in the late 1970s. Catherine relocated to Visalia in 1980.

Survivors include her niece, Mildred Sargent of Visalia; a nephew, William Hayward of Bozeman, Mont. Her parents, Chester and Ruth Marshall, and her two sisters, Ruth Hayward and Dorothy Marshall, preceded Catherine in death.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. today at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia. Services will be private.

Catherine requested memorials to either the Alzheimer's Association or Braille Association.

James Carl Gibson

FARMERSVILLE -- James Gibson, 48, of Farmersville passed away on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001. James was born on May 11, 1952, to Jessie Ray and Lois Gibson.
James had a lifelong love of old cars. He even had several cars that he restored before he was 16. James loved muscle cars, and he especially liked to go to antique car shows. James was a shade-tree mechanic. Friends and neighbors would bring their cars to him for repairs. Jim loved to tinker with household electronics as well. On any given day he could be found in the garage repairing a VCR or some other electronic device.

On June 20, 1992, James married his wife, Sharon. When the two met, it was love at first sight. Yet it took several years for the couple to wed.

James is survived by his wife, Sharon; his sons James Gibson Jr. of Farmersville, Jeremy Gibson of Farmersville, Christopher Gibson of Ivanhoe, Anthony Trujillo of Farmersville, John Methvin of Farmersville and Robert Methvin of Santa Maria. James is also survived by his brothers Johnny Ray Gibson of Denton,  Texas, William Clifford Gibson of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Wallace Pearson of Porterville; his sisters Wynonna "Nonnie" Shadrick of Fayettville, Ark., and LaRue Miley of Porterville; his uncle, James Crawford of Farmersville; and two cousins that he loved like brothers, Doug Crawford of Ivanhoe and Danny Crawford of Visalia.

A celebration of James' life will be 6 p.m. Thursday at the Front Line Ministry Church, 27450 Road 148, Visalia. Arrangements are by Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia.
