Augustine H. Mata Jr.

TULARE -- Augustine H. Mata Jr., 54, of Tulare died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001.

He was a contractor.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hamilton Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel, Tulare.

Rosary and Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Rita's Catholic Church, Tulare.

Interment at Tulare District Cemetery.

Ray Chrysler

TULARE -- Ray Charles Chrysler, 74, of Tulare died Friday, March 2, 2001.

He was retired.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Goble-Miller Funeral Chapel, Tulare.

Louise Elizabeth Lewis

FRESNO -- Louise Elizabeth Lewis, 74, of Fresno passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2001.

Louise was born on Oct. 7, 1926, to Roy and Irene Rich in Visalia.
When Louise was a child her family moved from Visalia to Corcoran.

Louise was a graduate of Corcoran High School. On June 19, 1946, Louise married her high school sweetheart, Harold Lewis, in Minden, Nev. They were happily married for more than 52 years.

Aside from being a homemaker, Louise was especially proud of the years that she worked in the cattle department of J.G. Boswell.

Louise was a past officer of the American Business Women's Association as well as the State of California Grandmothers' Club.

She enjoyed the monthly bowling activities she and Harold took part in as members of the Ironworkers Retirees Club.

Louise was also part of a pinochle group that played on a regular basis.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Irene Rich, as well as her brother, Lawrence Rich.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Lewis; her son, Michael Lewis; and her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Bill Short, all of Fresno.

Louise was the proud grandmother of Kristine Lewis and Ryan Voorhees.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Visalia District Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia.

Helen Nilo

Helen D. Nilo, 62, of Visalia died Monday, March 5, 2001. She was a homemaker.
Visitation will be noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday until rosary time at 6 p.m. at Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia. Service will be 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Visalia. Interment will be at Visalia District Cemetery.

Fernita Wofford

Fernita Wofford, 84, of Visalia passed away on Monday, March 5, 2001, in Visalia. She was a homemaker.
Fernita was born in Lockwood, Mo., on April 12, 1916, to Ezra and Myrtle Estus. Her parents and husband, Loren Wofford, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Visalia. She was a loving mother and sister. Fernita enjoyed her home and family above all. She will be remembered for her kind heart and light spirit. She was a delight to all who knew her.

Survivors include children Robert Cottingham of Joplin, Mo., and Judith Kautt of Visalia; a step-son, Robert Wofford of Rio Verde, Ariz.; one grandson, James Christopher Allman; two granddaughters, Jennifer Lynne Kautt and Sandra Marina Johnson; two sisters, Ruth Thrun of Visalia and Mary Pilkington of Visalia; two brothers, Ralph Estus of Visalia and Eugene Estus of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia. Burial will be private.

Raymond Kenneth Zuber

Raymond Kenneth Zuber, 87, of Visalia died Monday, March 5, 2001.
A son of John and Mary Zuber of Potter County, S.D. He served as a medic in World War II, worked 30 years at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., and, after retirement, at the cancer hospital. One brother, Marcus, preceded him in death.

Raymond is survived by a younger brother, Willard Zuber of Gettysburg, S.D. Raymond married Vera Buller in 1944 in Pierre, S.D.. Four children blessed the marriage of Ray and Vera: David Zuber of Shedd, Ore.; Kenneth Zuber of Seattle, Wash.; Shelley Khal of Visalia; and Carol Mallison of Fort Worth,  Texas. He had five grandchildren.

Raymond enjoyed photography as a hobby and also fishing, camping and coin collecting. He was a longtime volunteer at the World Ag Expo. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his several small inventions.

Visiation will be 3-7 p.m. today at Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Interment will be at Visalia District Cemetery.

Karen Sue Kennedy

Retail merchandiser

Karen Sue Kennedy, 49, of Visalia died Thursday, March 29, 2001. She was a retail merchandiser.
She was born Karen Sue Fisher in Mesa, Ariz., on Wednesday, July 4, 1951. She graduated from Redwood High School in 1969. She graduated with a liberal arts degree from College of the Sequoias in the spring of 2000. She married Robert Griffin Kennedy in Santa Barbara, on March 13, 1971, and divorced in 1994. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vallaray Bower, her father, Joe Fisher, and her brother, Darwin Fisher.

Survivors include her fiancÈe, C.J. Gonzales of Caruthers; stepmother, Emma Fisher of Springfield, Ill.; father-in-law, Robert Kennedy of Visalia; two daughters, Stephanie Michele Collins of San Diego and Sara Elizabeth Kennedy of Visalia; two sisters, Sheryl  Jackson of Bakersfield and Linda Valentine of Visalia; one brother, Mark Terry of Seattle, Wash.; two aunts, Louise Wedel of Visalia and Leta Rembac of Visalia; numerous cousins.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel.

Basil L. McCall

Retired

Basil L. McCall, 75, of Visalia passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2001. He was a retired scuba center owner.
He was born in Visalia, raised and educated in Woodlake and graduated from Woodlake High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific as an aircraft mechanic.

After his discharge, he returned to Woodlake to help his parents at the McCall Market in Woodlake.

He married the former Jeanette Rogers in Carson City, Nev., in 1949. After their marriage, the couple moved to Santa Barbara while Mr. McCall attended and graduated from the Brooks Institute of Photography. They moved to Visalia in 1953 to make their home where the couple owned and operated the McCall Photography Studio on Main Street.

He then was employed by the Tulare Department of Social Services until retiring in 1985. The couple also owned and operated the Visalia Scuba Center from 1973 until retiring in 1991. He was a past member of the Woodlake Lions Club and a member of the Visalia Scuba Diving Club. He enjoyed scuba diving, wood working, gardening and working on his computer.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette McCall of Visalia; a son, Steven McCall and wife, Shayne of Fresno; a daughter, Tracy Miller and husband, Tony of Visalia; a sister, Hope Peden of Mascoutah, Ill.; two grandsons, Chase McCall of Fresno and Nathaniel Miller of Visalia; one granddaughter, Megan Miller of Visalia.

A "Time of Remembrance" will be 2-7 p.m. Monday at the family home, 1206 Atkins St. in Visalia. Interment will be at San Joaquin National Cemetery in Santa Nella. Arrangements are by Goble-Miller Funeral Chapel, Tulare.

Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Tulare County, 900 W. Oak Ave., Visalia, CA 93291.

Jose Nunes

Business owner

PIXLEY -- Jose Nunes, 62, of Pixley died Sunday, March 25, 2000. He was a business owner.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the "Jose Nunes Trust," P.O. Box 552, Pixley, CA 93256.

The funds will be distributed to local organizations for equipment and research to help find cures for the illness he suffered.

Arrangements were by Miller's Tulare Funeral Home.
