J. Madge Snow

Madge Snow was born in DeWar, Okla., on Aug. 7, 1914, to a family of two sisters, Ruth Young and Ora Hertzog, and two brothers, Ted and Jack Smith. The family moved to  Washington in the mid-1920s and shortly thereafter settled in Shafter.

On Oct. 11, 1930, she married Frank Frederick Jacobsen and became the mother of a son and a daughter, Frankie L. Hilderbrand and Ted J. Jacobsen. Frank showered love and attention on Madge and his children. The couple lived in Bakersfield until they divorced in 1947.

In the 1950s, Madge was voted the most beautiful woman in Kern County several times. She and Gordon later relocated to Santa Barbara, where they flourished in the real estate business. Even though they later divorced, they remained lifelong friends.

After the divorce, Madge returned to Bakersfield to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Madge was the guiding matriarch of her family who instilled a love for God, music and all things beautiful on the earth in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
