DINUBA -- Jacob Peter Wiebe, 93, of Dinuba died Friday, May 11, 2001. He was a farmer.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dopkins Chapel, Dinuba. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Mountain Cemetery, Dinuba.

Nora Petty

Nora Petty, 79, of Visalia died Saturday, May 12, 2001.
Pauline was born to John and Martha Wolfe on Nov. 2, 1921, in Rison, Ark. Scripture, God's word says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Pauline passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.

Survivors include one son, Neal Petty of Modesto; two daughters, Alice Osborne of Modeso and Joan Layman of Visalia; one sister, Maudie Wroten of Salem, Ore.; six grandchildren, Ladonna, Linda, Larry, Pam, Kevin, Michael and Kenneth Scott; and 14 great grandchildren.

Viewing will be 1-5 p.m. today at Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia. Graveside services will be noon Wednesday at Lakewood Cemetery, Hughson.

In lieu of flowers, send donations to Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Central California, 3900 Pelandale #420 PMB 336 Modesto, CA.

Eldon Heatherly

Eldon Heatherly, 69, of Visalia died Saturday, May 12, 2001.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Visalia District Cemetery. Interment will be at Visalia District Cemetery.

Boyd Ansel Goodell

Boyd Ansel Goodell, 81, of Visalia died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001. He was a pharmacist for 36 years.
There will be no services. Arrangements are by Neptune Society, Fresno.

'Sherman' Bradford
Former Ivanhoe resident

SHIRLEY, Ark. -- H. "Sherman" Bradford passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2001.
He was born on Sept. 1, 1909, in Shirley, Ark., to David and Maggie Bradford. He attended school there. He married Ethel Shull in 1934 and moved to Ivanhoe in 1943, where he worked as a labor crew leader. They returned to Shirley, Ark., in 1969. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, in 1997 and his son, Sherman "Duane" Bradford who lost his life in Vietnam in 1969.

Survivors include his son, Bill D. Bradford and his wife, Dorothy, of Ivanhoe and Shirley, Ark.; daughter, Shelby Hughes and husband, Leon, of Seminole, Okla.; and daughter, Joy Gardner and husband, Ernest "Junior," of Visalia; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

His interests included raising his "herd" of cattle -- many from birth, gardening and visiting his neighbors. He will be greatly missed. Arrangements will be made by Homested Funeral Home, Heber, Ark.

Justin Brainerd
Retired

EXETER -- Justin C. Brainerd, 84, of Exeter died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001. He was a retired management analyst.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Community Church of Visalia. Arrangements are by Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia.

Remembrances may be made to St. Clements Day Care Center, 498 N. Valencia Blvd., Woodlake, CA 93286.

Raymond Duran Jr.
Mechanic

TULARE -- Raymond H. Duran Jr. of Tulare died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001. He was a mechanic for 30 years.
Visitation will be noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel, Tulare. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Mass will be 9 a.m. Friday at St. Rita's Catholic Church, Tulare. Interment will be at Tulare District Cemetery.

Marjorie Allen Dwelle

Marjorie Allen Dwelle, 86, of Visalia died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, Jan., 26, 2001.
She was born and raised in Los Angeles to Walter and Anne Allen. She was educated at Marlboro and UCLA. While attending college, she met and married Thomas Warren Dwelle of Denver,  Colo. Marge enjoyed raising their four boys in Visalia and later in life enjoyed traveling abroad with Tom, particularly in Japan and Hawaii. She will be remembered as an ardent collector of Japanese treasures and a generous supporter of many local charitable causes.

Marge is survived by her husband, Tom; their sons, Tom, Steve, Walter, and David and their wives; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to cancer and Alzheimer's research.

Ervin Porter Goodrich

Ervin Goodrich, 89, of Visalia passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001. He was born on Oct. 28, 1911, to Doney and Winifred Goodrich in Turlock.
Ervin served in the U.S. Army during World War II and continued service as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve for many years before retiring. Ervin graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in business. While an officer in the Army Reserve, he worked as a corporate purchaser for Orchard Supply and Hardware for more than 25 years.

Ervin was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Rita Goodrich. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Goodrich, as well as his two sisters, Dorothy Goodrich and Helen Johnson. Having no children or grandchildren of his own, Ervin treated and loved his nephew's family as his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his nephew, Roger  Johnson and wife, Ann, of Visalia; his great-nephews and great-nieces, Greg Johnson, wife, Lisa, and son, Evan, of Visalia; Dean  Johnson and wife, Anja, of Seattle, Wash.; John  Johnson of San Diego; Erin Sheaff and husband, Peter Sheaff, of Visalia; Charlie  Johnson of North Hollywood; and Ananda  Johnson of Visalia.

A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hadley Funeral Chapel, 410 W. Center Ave., Visalia.

Floyd Lee  Johnson Jr.

SAN JOSE -- Floyd Lee  Johnson Jr. of San Jose died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001.
Floyd was born Nov. 23, 1926, in Dinuba, moved to Westmoreland in Southern California and returned to Dinuba when he was in the fifth grade. During high school, he played football and was on the championship basketball team.

Floyd joined the U.S. Navy after high school during World War II. He made 18 trips across the Pacific Ocean and returned to Dinuba after he finished his military tour. Floyd then joined the Dinuba American Legion Post. Through the Legion, Floyd supported many service men's families at burial services in local churches and cemeteries to honor the lives given for our country. He marched in many Raisin Day Parades carrying our American flag. Floyd and his cousin owned the OK Rubber Welders, a tire shop in Dinuba, and worked with the local Boy Scouts. Through the Boy Scouts he worked with many young kids. One of the boys who hung around the tire shop went on to become a judge.

Floyd married Barbara Barrows in 1951 and became a farmer and the father of two children. During those years, he became a Christian and served on the Dinuba High School and other boards for 12 years. He received the PTA Life Time Membership award. In 1970, he joined his brother in the home-building business in Visalia. Floyd and Barbara moved to Morgan Hill in the mid-1980s. While living in Morgan Hill, he served as president of the homeowners association for six years and also served on the Morgan Hill City Planning Commission. Floyd was always a good friend, a leader and dependable. He made himself available to help neighbors in many ways, including taking them to the doctor. In 1987, he became a grandfather to Kristen Bayless and in 1991 to Robyn Bayless. He was a man of faith and love of family, country and his fellow man.

Floyd suffered a massive stroke and passed away on Jan. 28, 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Kathy Bayless; son-in-law, Rendy Bayless; granddaughters, Kristen and Robyn Bayless of San Jose; son, Mark and daughter-in-law, Joy, of Monterey; sister, Bernice Laney of Reedley; brothers Mel of Palm Desert and Lloyd of  Washington.

Remembrances may be made to donor's favorite church, charity or Hospice.
