Lenore Ferreira

Lenore Ferreira, 75, of Visalia died Tuesday, June 5, 2001.

Shirley R. Green

1946-2001

Shirley R. Green of Visalia passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2001. Shirley was born in Lindsay on May 29, 1946, to Gene and Hazel Green. She graduated from Lindsay High School in 1964 and Oregon State University in 1968. Since 1968, she lived in Visalia, but she traveled extensively throughout the world. Shirley will be remembered for her friendship, her keen wit, kindness and generosity. She supported many local charitable and service organizations.
Shirley is survived by her mother, Hazel E. Green of Lindsay; her sister, Betty Jean Patterson of Anaheim; her nieces Karen Maynard of Lemoore and Cathy Godfrey of Carlsbad; and her nephew, Glen Patterson of Anaheim. Her father, Gene Green, passed away in 1970.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, 351 E. Hermosa, Lindsay. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lindsay, or to the American Cancer Society.

Peggy Harter-Hodges

Former Tulare resident Peggy Harter-Hodges, 52, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Thursday, June 7, 2001.
She was born on July 30, 1948 in Tulare. She was a longtime resident of Tulare, where she attended Tulare elementary schools and graduated from Tulare Western High School. She was the previous co-owner of P.R.'s Cocktail Lounge in Tulare. She was a resident of Las Vegas for the last five years.

Survivors include a daughter, Samantha Lorraine Mohar of Visalia; a son, James "Bumper" Mohar and his wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Cassidy, of Las Vegas; four sisters, Lorraine Allison of Tulare, Patsy Bishop of Mountain View, Janie Gardner of Fort Mojave, Ariz., and Barbara McClean of Visalia; a brother, Jimmy Harter of Visalia; and a large number of cousins, nieces and nephews in the Tulare and Visalia area.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Miller's Tulare Funeral Home. Graveside services will be noon Friday at Cayucos-Morro Bay Cemetery in Cayucos.

Joseph Janelli

Joseph Janelli was born in the Bronx, New York on Dec. 5, 1915. After graduating from High School he moved to Visalia in 1933 to work for his uncle, John Janelli Sr. Joe met his wife, Ermalinda Finni in May, 1934, at Mabel Finni's birthday party. One week later they were both in the Visalia Hospital. Joe because of surgery on a big toe due to an accident. Erma for an emergency appendectomy. They were married June 5, 1935 in St. Mary's Church. Monsignar James C. O'Doherty was the celebrant.
World War II saw Joe go into active duty since he was an active member of the California National Guard. He was commissioned a Lieutenant in July, 1942. After spending a year at Camp Maxy,  Texas, he went overseas. He was a member of the invasion troops on D-Day June 6, 1944. He fought across France until wounded in the Huertgen Forest. In April 1945 he returned home to Visalia. He continued in the Army Reserve and retired with the rank of major. Joe was the Tulare County Tax Collector from January 1951 until his resignation in 1969. He moved his family to Sacramento in 1969 and went to work for the California Farm Bureau Federation as a Legislative Assistant. He retired in January 1984. He and Ermalinda returned to Visalia in 1988.

He is survive by his wife, Ermalinda, five children, Anthony, Edward, Susan Purdin, Marilyn Meeks and Kathryn Janelli-Skyles, nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Viewing will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia. Mass will be 9 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church. Interment at Visalia District Cemetery.

Frank Lagomarsino

The family of Frank Giannini Lagomarsino will gather to celebrate the life of a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Frank was born July 27, 1931, in Tulare. He passed away on June 9, 2001. Frank was the son of Elrena and Fred Lagomarsino and the grandson of Frank and Louisa Giannini and Felice and Louise Lagomarsino. Frank led a long established family farming operation, established in the area around 1889. He graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory in 1949 and Notre Dame University in 1953.
Frank was active in numerous industry and community leadership efforts.

He was instrumental in the formation of a statewide wine grape organization, currently the California Association of Winegrape Growers. He was a former chairman of the Tulare World Ag-Expo, was an active Tulare Rotarian and was president in 1968-69, and was an active board member of the Tulare Irrigation District.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Claribel; his children Carmella Renton, Fred Lagomarsino and Cindy O'Donnell and their spouses; and grandchildren Briana and Tamara Lagomarsino and Mimi and Sophie O'Donnell.

A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Chapel in Tulare. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Tulare. Interment will be at Tulare District Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Agricultural Education Foundation, which funds the California Agricultural Leadership Program, P.O. Box 6058, Atascadero, CA 93423-6058, or the St. Aloysius School Memorial Fund, 627 Beatrice Drive, Tulare, Ca. 93274. Arrangements are by Miller's Tulare Funeral Home.

Gloria Montes

DINUBA -- Gloria Montes, 26, of Dinuba died Sunday, June 10, 2001. She was a preschool teacher.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Dinuba. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Arrangements are by Dopkins Funeral Chapel, Dinuba.

Lola Murray

LINDSAY -- Lola Mae Murray, 78, of Lindsay died Friday, June 8, 2001. She was a homemaker.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Lindsay. There will be a private family interment. Arrangements are by Webb-Sanders Funeral Home, Lindsay.

Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church, 120 N. Gale Hill Ave., Lindsay, CA 93247.

Elsie Shaw

TULARE -- Elsie Shaw, 79, of Tulare died Sunday, June 10, 2001. He was a grocery storeowner.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel, Tulare. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Interment will be at Tulare District Cemetery.

Albert Toy

TULARE -- Albert Toy, 90, of Tulare died Thursday, June 7, 2001. He was a restaurant owner.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hamilton Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel, Tulare. Interment will be at Tulare District Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to the National World War II Memorial, American Battle Monument Commission, P.O. Box 96766,  Washington, D.C. 20090-6766.

John Hayes
John C. Hayes, 82, of Exeter died Tuesday, June 5, 2001. He was owner/president of Quality Auto and Truck Parts.

Akira 'Aki' Imoto

Services for Akira "Aki" Imoto, 81, of Lindsay will be 2 p.m. today at Webb-Sanders Funeral Home, 163 S. Mirage Ave., Lindsay, with the Rev. Ueda officiating. Burial will be in Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery.
Mr. Imoto passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Beatrice R. Daniel Home in Clovis. He was born on Aug. 9, 1919, in Lindsay. In 1947, he married Betty Omori, she preceded him in death in 1990. Mr. Imoto was a self-employed farmer. He was a partner and active member of Imoto Farms Inc. Being a native and lifelong resident of Lindsay, he was a graduate of Lindsay High School and was a runner on the school's track team. He was also, active in Future Farmers of America. Other memberships included the Visalia Buddhist Church. "Aki" was a veteran of World War II, having been drafted into the U.S. Army in 1940. His rank was sergeant in the service company with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Europe, where he saw a great deal of action. After the war, back in his home town, his service to his country continued with American Legion Post No. 128, where he was a former post commander.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Imoto of Lindsay and Jeff Imoto of Clovis; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Daryl Osato of Clovis and Patty and Ron Inman of Saratoga; grandchildren, Daren, Derek and Leann Osato, and Sarah Inman and Andrew Imoto; three brothers, Yosh Imoto of Lindsay, Toby Imoto of Streamwood, Ill., and Sam Imoto of Lindsay; five sisters, Ann Yoshida of Orland Park, Ill., Kiyo Hamane, Sally Kishi and Darlene Kishi all of Pasadena, and Joyce Nishioki of Fresno; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his daughter-in-law, Arlene Imoto, and a brother, Mike Imoto.

A donation can be made to the "Aki" Imoto Bench Fund, account 110-052685. Remittance may be made to any Bank of the West branch. A bench will be placed at the Beatrice R. Daniel Home.
