Thomas Forman Dean

Retired

Thomas Forman Dean, 78, of Visalia died Saturday, June 23, 2001. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
Thomas Forman Dean was born in Fresno on Dec. 30, 1922. He married Martha MacRae in San Jose in 1951. Thomas moved to Visalia in 1968. Thomas attended the Episcopal Church in Visalia. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Retired Officers Association. He was a civil engineer in the Air Force, retiring with the rank of major. During World War II, he was in the 8th Army, stationed in the Europe. He was stationed at Johnston Island, where he was involved in atomic bomb testing. He was stationed in Iceland and Greenland. He was the first base commander at Beale Air Force Base. He was stationed at Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, N.M., Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Andrews Air Force Base in  Washington, D.C. He was the program director in the late 1960s for Demeter, a project that funded disenfranchised business groups. He was a program director for business development for the Disabled American Veterans. His hobbies included reading, camping and playing bridge. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Dean, in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Keith MacRae Dean of Visalia; a daughter, Elizabeth Dean Butsch of Santa Ana; and two grandchildren, Adam Butsch and Nathan Butsch of Santa Ana.

Service will be 9 a.m. today at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia. Interment will be in the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine.

Donald L. Lappegaard

School teacher

Born in Russellville, Ala., on Sept. 12, 1948, he moved to Fremont and attended school there. He served with the Marines in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. He married Patricia Nunez in Newark in 1969, and in 1974 they moved to Visalia, where he taught at Crestwood School for many years. He is a member of DAV and the Christ Lutheran Church, Visalia.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Lappegaard of Visalia; his father, James Lappegaard of New Jersey; two daughters, Danielle Gorospe and husband, Ric, of San Jose and Aryn Howell and husband, Greg, of San Francisco; two brothers, Ted Lappegaard of Colorado and Eric Lyon of Alabama; one sister, Joy Bloom of Clovis; one grandchild, Jordan Gorospe; and five nephews, Nate, Justin and Chad Lappegaard and Jacob and Samuel Bloom. His mother, Flora Mae Wilson, preceded him in death in 1996.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. today at Smith Family Chapel, 505 E. Pine St., Exeter. A celebration of Don's life will be 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church, 3830 W. Tulare Ave., Visalia. Private military rites will be at the Visalia Cemetery with a Marine Honor Guard.

Donations may be made to Christ Kids Preschool, 3830 W. Tulare Ave., Visalia.

Robert Pena

Contractor

Robert D. Pena, 67, of Woodlake died Sunday, June 24, 2001. He was a drywall contractor.
Services will be private. Burial will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine. Arrangements are by Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia.

Tomasita Casas
Farm laborer

DINUBA -- Tomasita Rivera Casas, 87, of Dinuba died Tuesday, July 10, 2001. She was a farm laborer.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Dinuba. Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at the church. Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Martin Ceballos
Supervisor

IVANHOE -- Martin Ceballos, 39, of Ivanhoe died Monday, July 9, 2001. He was a supervisor for Jose Carmona Farm Labor.
Visitation will be private. Mass will be at 11 a.m. today at San Felipe de Jesus Catholic Church, Ivanhoe. Interment will be at Visalia District Cemetery. Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Services, Visalia.

Ellen C. Gregory

Ellen C. Gregory, 85, of Visalia died Wednesday, July 11, 2001.
Ellen Gregory was a star athlete in her youth, excelling in high jumping and basketball. As a senior in high school she led her team to the Kansas State women's basketball championship. She was an avid golfer and archer and competed in bridge at the international level. She loved to travel, visiting historical sites throughout Europe and Asia. When she was not playing bridge, she painted and communicated with family and friends throughout the world by e-mail. According to her, the time she spent as a pre-school teacher in Bakersfield was the most precious and endearing time of her life. She loved children and worked hard to ensure that they had the opportunity to succeed.

Survivors include her sons Donald Gregory and Kenneth Gregory, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Memorial Chapel. Private burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Bakersfield.

Carl Johnson
Retired carpenter

WOODLAKE -- Carl Johnson, 78, of Woodlake died Wednesday, July 4, 2001. He was a retired carpenter.
We would like to invite family and friends to join us in celebrating the life of Carl  Johnson at 4 p.m. Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Flores, 433 S. Valencia, Woodlake. Richard M. Juergens

Richard M. Juergens, 78, of Visalia died Wednesday, July 11, 2001.
In Loving Memory of Richard Miller Juergens, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, Born in Fresno on Jan. 24, 1923, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001. Richard married Thelma L. Juergens in 1964.

Richard is survived by his children, Douglas R. Juergens, Danelle Marie Phelps, Dianne Alene Juergens, Dale Louise Juergens, Tom M. Benefield and Barbara A. Peck; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Richard was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the Benevolant Order of the Elks. Richard Juergens will be missed by both family and friends.

Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. on Friday at Belmont Memorial Park, Fresno. Arrangements are by Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Heart Association.

Mabel Kroschel
Homemaker

OROSI -- Mabel Agusta Kroschel, 81, of Orosi died Monday, July 9, 2001. She was a homemaker.
There will not be funeral services. Arrangements are by Dopkins Funeral Chapel, Dinuba.

Marianne Perry
Advertising account executive

THREE RIVERS -- Marianne Perry, 39, of Three Rivers died Monday, July 9, 2001. She was an advertising account executive.
Marianne was born in Los Angeles on March 28, 1962, and was raised in Westminster. She graduated from Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach and Brooks College in Long Beach. Marianne moved with her family to the Visalia area in 1987. She then graduated from Galen College. Marianne also lived and worked in the Fresno area before returning to Three Rivers. She loved travel, dancing, the ballet, ice skating and had a passion for the ocean and swimming in Lake Kaweah. Marianne's love for her girls was boundless.

Marianne is survived by her parents, James and Nell Perry of Three Rivers; two daughters, Sirelle Bachman of Garden Grove and Janell Hulse of Lemoore; and her brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Kathy Perry of Three Rivers.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Three Rivers Cemetery. Arrangements are by Evans-Miller Exeter Chapel.

Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 211 N. Encina, Visalia, CA 93291, 1-800-227-2345.
