TULARE -- Maria Augsta Dias, 89, of Tulare died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001. She was a homemaker.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller's Tulare Funeral Home, Tulare. Recitation of the rosary, followed by Mass, will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Rita's Catholic Church, Tulare.
Newton Jacob (Jake) Dowers
Veteran/mechanic
Jake was born in Graiton, Neb., on Aug. 25, 1921, to Alonzo and Nora Dowers and was lifted to heaven on Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at the age of 79.
He was raised in the Midwest, one of eight siblings and served in the Army during World War II for three years with Gen. Patton's Third Division as a tank driver. He earned the Purple Heart. After the war, Jake returned to work for Home Dairy as a mechanic for over 33 years, located in Boise, Idaho. In 1980, he retired and moved to Exeter and married Rose Goodale in 1990, then moving to Visalia.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Rose Dowers; two sons, Jacob Wayne Dowers and wife, Linda, of Nampa, Idaho and Danny Lee Dowers and wife, Mary, of Nampa, Idaho; three sisters, Gladys Castro of Cardwell, Idaho, Elvina Palmer of Kuna, Idaho, and Ina Everette of Ontario, Ore.; a brother, Boyd Dowers of Tulare; grandchildren, Kristy Dowers, Shanna Dowers Feeley, Paul Dowers, Tim Harven and Lindsey Nari; five great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Lani Thomas and husband, Steve.
Visitation will be noon to 7 p.m. today at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. Military burial will be at Visalia District Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to World War II Veterans Memorial or to Berean Christian Church, P.O. Box 4133, Visalia, CA 93279.
Harrison James Fisher
HANFORD -- A memorial service for Harrison James Fisher, 7, of Hanford will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Pentecostal Church of God, 500 E. Florinda, Hanford. Interment will be in Oakwood Memorial Park, Santa Cruz, under the direction of Gary Beneto, Pacific Gardens Chapel.
Harrison is survived by his loving parents, Padric and Kellie Fisher; sister, Shivhan; grandparents, Mike and Jill Fisher and Jane and Wayne Armstrong; great-grandmothers, Betty Fisher and Aloha Berkebile; uncles Mather Fisher and Kiley Armstrong; aunts, Pearl Fisher, Courtnie Armstrong and aunt Carrie. He was much loved by many great aunts, great uncles, and cousins. Harrison was preceded in death by his grandmother, Catherine Fisher and brother, Craig David Dunkle.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to "Harrison's Whale Cruises for Kids/Lyceum of Monterey County" 25515 Hidden Mesa Road, Monterey, CA 93940. Dedicated to providing ocean cruises, whale watching and marine education for underprivileged children.

TULARE -- George W. Hawkins, 93, of Tulare died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001. He was a superintendent of mail for the U.S. Postal Service.
Services will be private. Arrangements are by Goble-Miller Funeral Chapel, Tulare.
Helen A. Lawrence
Retired supervisor
EXETER -- Helen A. Lawrence, 70, of Exeter passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, after a long battle with cancer. She was a retired supervisor of San Bernardino Family Planning.
She married Mr. Julius Lawrence in Las Vegas, Nev., on March 8, 1962. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Rusyn.
Survivors include her husband, Julius Lawrence of Exeter; sons, John C. Rusyn of Exeter and Gregory Lawrence of Huntington Beach; a daughter, Tricia J. Rusyn of Visalia; a brother, John T. Level of Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Constance B. Turner of Visalia; sister-in-law, Carolyn Level of Spokane, Wash.; granddaughter, Sarah Lawrence of Phoenix, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Heritage Chapel at the Visalia District Cemetery. Arrangements are by Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia.

TIPTON -- Victor Ruiz Perez, 93, of Tipton died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001. He was a farm laborer.

TULARE -- Harry V. Prater, 85, of Tulare died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001. He was a retired civil engineer.
Graveside memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Tulare District Cemetery. Arrangements are by Goble-Miller Funeral Chapel, Tulare.
Joyce M. Rogers

TULARE -- Joyce M. Rogers, 67, of Tulare died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001. She was a homemaker.
She was born on April 8, 1934, in Albion, Pa., to Clyde and Alice Williams. She was raised on her family's farm in Albion, Pa., she graduated from Albion High School. She is a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, and she met her husband, Charles E. Rogers, in the Navy, and they were married two weeks later. They were married for 44 years. They were married on July 6, 1957, in Bainbridge, Md. They later moved to the Tulare area and she received her Associate's Degree from College of the Sequoias. She made each of her grandchildren a handmade quilt, and she entered one of her quilts in the Tulare County Fair in Tulare.
Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Rogers of Tulare; two sons, Mark Rogers and his wife, Robin of Lemoore and Rolland Rogers and his wife, Pamela of Copperas Cove, Texas; two daughters, Milli Conger and Scott Hampton of Visalia and Charlene Hawkins of Visalia; a brother, James Williams and his wife, Halle, Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Judy Wolfe of Conneaut, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; father-in-law, Rolland Ray of Quilcene, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Williams in 1936.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tulare District Cemetery. The Tulare AmVets Post #56 Honor Guard will participate in the service. Arrangements are by Miller's Tulare Funeral Home, Tulare.
Rosie Grantham

Rosie Grantham lost a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, Aug. 20, 2001. She was a homemaker.
She was born in Germany and came to the U.S. in 1948. Rosie had a love for cross-stitching, knitting, and needlepoint and crafts of all kinds. In her earlier years, she was a volunteer with over 1,500 service hours. There was not a thing she would not do for her family and the people who were important to her.
Rosie is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Lee Edward Grantham; two sons, Harry Yee and wife, Janis, of Reno, Nev., and Raymond Grantham of Reno, Nev.; two daughters, Heide Vibbert and husband, David of Yakima, Wash., and Lisa Grantham of Visalia; daughter-in-law, Anola B. Yee of Memphis, Tenn. Rosie had nine grandsons and one granddaughter; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Henry H. Yee who passed away on April 16, 1997, in Memphis Tenn.
Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Friday at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Visalia District Cemetery.

THREE RIVERS -- Beverly Jean Athearn of Three Rivers died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at her home.
At her request, there will be no formal services. Arrangements are by Smith Family Chapel, Exeter.
Irene Beiden

Irene Beiden, 92, of Visalia died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001. She was a homemaker.
Irene Daum was born to John and Marie Daum on Aug. 2, 1909, in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, Canada. Irene came to the United States as a child, settling in Sanger, Calif. She married Henry Beiden on March 1, 1927, in Fresno. The couple moved to Visalia in 1946. Irene attended Grace Lutheran Church in Visalia. She enjoyed Thrift Stores and collected silver. Her husband, Henry Beiden, preceded Irene in death in May 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Carleen Lewis and her husband, Glen, of Tulare; a son, Richard Henry Beiden of San Luis Obispo; granddaughter, Diane Michigian and her husband, Bruce, of Tulare; granddaughter, Janet Lewis of Sausalito; a grandson, Douglas Beiden and his wife, Brenda, of Nashville, Tenn.; and granddaughter, Richelle Buchholz and her husband, Steve, of Pleasant Hills.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Goble-Miller Funeral Chapel, Tulare.
