Retired

Ruben G. Lara, 57, of Visalia died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001. He was retired.
A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia.

Viola Forester
Viola Forester, 89, of Visalia died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001. She was retired.

Ellen Frances Berry

Ellen Frances Berry, 88, of Visalia died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, of heart failure due to massive infection.
Fran met and married Joe T. Berry while he was stationed at Fort Edwards Military Base in Mojave. From Mojave they moved to Shannon,  Calif., where Joe worked for Standard Oil. After a few years Joe and Fran moved to Visalia, where Joe became a State Farm Insurance Agent. Joe successfully received numerous awards for his top salesmanship. Fran worked along beside her husband as his secretary and after 30 very successful years, Joe retired.

Joe and Fran got to fulfill their lives' dream of retirement and moved to the Morro Bay coast. They spent 50 percent of their time in Morro Bay and the other time here in Visalia. Fran lived eight years beyond her beloved husband, Joe, she always took great pride in being able to tell people I am Mrs. Joe Berry. While in the hospital before her passing she was asked what her name was she replied "Mrs. Joe Berry" the nurse asked her again No Mrs. Berry, what is your first name, her response was after a short glare and thrusting upward motion of her eyes she said "Can't you hear I said I was Mrs. Joe Berry" we all had to have a laugh on that one, we love your mom! Pat, Joe Jr., and Lynn. Now you can go be with dad. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe T. Berry.

Survivors include a sister, Dolly of Fresno; sons, Patrick and wife, Sue Berry of Bakersfield and Joe F. Berry and wife, Nancy of Visalia; daughter, Lynn Glispey and husband, Ronnie of Visalia; eight grandchildren, Mark Berry of Paso Robles, Cynthia Kirk of New Mexico, Kimberly Brosseau of Monterey, Sheri Cogburn of Visalia, Joe Berry III of Visalia, Ramsey Berry of Visalia, Tami Calaberse of West Lake and Ryan Glispey of North Carolina.

Private family visitation will be held. Mass will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Visalia. Interment will be at Visalia District Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia.

Norval Collins
Custom harvester

NORTH FORK -- Norval "Bud" Collins, 83, of North Fork, formerly of Visalia, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001. He was a custom harvester.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. today at Goble-Miller Funeral Chapel, Tulare. Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be at Tulare District Cemetery.

Donald Elick
Retired

Donald Robert Elick was born to Anna and Orie Elick in Enid, Okla., on Jan. 1, 1921. He passed away on Monday, Sept. 10, 2001. Don worked many years in the laboratory at Tulare District Hospital and retired as a clinical laboratory scientist.
He was considered to be a very special person by all that knew him, and he could lift anyone's spirits with his wit and charm.

Don is survived by his wife, Cordia Elick; sons, Wiley Elick, Louie Elick and Tom Elick; daughter Judy Cardoza. He also has nine grandchildren, Aimee Sa, Sherry Horning, Tracee Elick, Scott Cardoza, Lisa Trupp, Chris Elick, Dale Elick, Krista Elick and Jonathan Elick; nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Tulare Baptist Church.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Tulare County.

Helen Hendrick
School teacher

PORTERVILLE -- Helen Hays Hendrick, 90, of Porterville died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001. She was a school teacher for 37 years.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Lindsay. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Webb-Sanders Funeral Home, Lindsay.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Lindsay, 351 E. Hermosa, Lindsay, CA 93247.

Kathryn Logan
Homemaker

Kathryn J. Logan, 79, of Visalia died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001. She was a homemaker.
Services are pending. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia.

Oliver J. Morrow
Farm worker

Oliver J. Morrow, 85, of Visalia was born in Madill, Okla., on Feb. 11, 1916. He passed away on Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, in Kaweah Delta District Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends.
Oliver was a farm worker, first for the Akin Family in Ivanhoe and later retired from Visalia Citrus in 1989. He will be remembered for many things, his smile, his gentle voice, his understanding. But most of all his true love for his family and friends, he would never be a rich man in terms of dollars and cents, but truly, he was the richest man anyone has known. He was the consummate family man.

Oliver is survived by his wife of 64 years, Estelle; three sons, Ken Morrow of Fresno, Harold Morrow of Visalia and Gary and his wife, Nancy Morrow of Ventura; eight grandchildren, Kevin, Kimberly, Krista, Todd, Shanna, Janice, Daniel and Andrew; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dolly Brooks of Visalia; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. today at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Visalia District Cemetery.

Glenna Pietroforte

Glenna Pietroforte, 58, of Visalia departed Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, for a place beyond the sunset. She was born in Visalia on Nov. 21, 1942, to Virgil and Faye Bowling.
A longtime volunteer with the Red Cross, she enjoyed attending yard sales, playing bingo, photography, and hiking in Colorado. She loved her grandchildren with her whole heart.

Often referring to herself as a "maverick," Glenna was an irrepressible lady with an outrageous laugh and an animated personality who was loved veritably and will be remembered with deep affection by family and friends.

Preceding Glenna in departure were her father, Virgil Bowling and brother, Virgil Harvey Bowling. Those who endure are her husband, Gary Pietroforte; children, Eric Ward and Dereck Ward of Arkansas, Monica Schott of South Dakota and Evan  Jones of Idaho; her mother, Faye Bowling of Visalia; sisters and brother, Wanda Springer, Fran Peterson and Lois Oldfield of Visalia, and Ralph Bowling of Atascadero; 15 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia. Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Friday at the Visalia Public Cemetery.

D.B. Rogers
Minister

The Rev. D.B. Rogers was born in the Kimish Mts. of Okla. to William Monte and Ethel Rogers on Feb. 21, 1918, and passed to Glory on Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at the age of 83. He was raised both in  Oklahoma and Southern California, later working locally for Stuham and Shannon Ranches. In 1951, he began his ministry for the church of God, twice pastoring the church of God here in Visalia. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Sylvia Rogers, and a son, Ed Rogers.
Survivors included his wife of nine years, Laveda Mae Rogers; children, Bob Parker of Merced, Don Rogers of Visalia, Ron Rogers, of Visalia, Judy Rogers of Visalia, Pat Rogers-Thomas of Saratoga; step-children, Jim Adams of Hawaii, Deborah Nottinghan of Carlsbad, Bill Adams of Tulsa, Okla., Carol Brown of Oceanside and Richard Adams of Tulare; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. today at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia. Chapel service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be at Visalia District Cemetery.
