Joe Gothard, 82, of Visalia died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001. He was a retired sales manager for Rainbo Bakery.
Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Miller Memorial Chapel. Services will be 11 a.m. Jan. 9 at Miller Memorial Chapel.

Vernis Grissom
Retired

EXETER -- Vernis Grissom, 79, of Exeter died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001. He was retired.
Visiation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Evans-Miller Exeter Chapel. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Exeter District Cemetery.

George A. Jarrett
Retired maintenance foreman

TULARE -- George A. Jarrett, 86, of Tulare died Thrusday, Dec. 27, 2001, in Tulare. He was a retired maintenance foreman for Harrah's Casino.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Jan. 5 at Goble-Miller Funeral Chapel, Tulare.

James LaRocco
Clerical

EXETER -- James LaRocco, 63, of Exeter died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001.
Services will be private at a veterans national cemetery in Minnesota. Arrangements are by Hadley's Funeral Chapel, Visalia.

Jeanne P. Lovejoy

Jeanne P. Lovejoy, 89, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, in Visalia.
She was born in Oakland on June 18, 1912. She recently moved to Visalia from Carmel. Her mother, Frances May Larkin, was born in Visalia in 1890.

Jeanne was at Hickam Field, Hawaii, during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. She worked for Standard Oil in San Francisco as an executive secretary. Jeanne was an avid golfer and bridge player. Her husband, Richard F. Lovejoy, preceded her in death in 1981. He was the director of public works in Richmond.

She is survived by her son, Wayne Lovejoy, and his wife, Sally, her granddaughters, Candice and Danielle, all of Visalia, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a private ceremony for the family. Arrangements are by Hadley's Funeral Chapel.

Myrtle F. O'Kelley
Homemaker

CONCORD -- Myrtle F. O'Kelley, 95, of Concord, formerly of Exeter, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001. She was a homemaker.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at Evans-Miller Exeter Chapel. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Exeter Cemetery.

Vada Price-Rigsby
Homemaker

Vada Price-Rigsby, 98, passed away Dec. 26, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Illawynne Goodall and Jaquetta Phelps; her son-in-law, Don Phelps; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was a member of the Church of Christ for more than 70 years. She was born in Bearden, Okla., Indian Territory, in 1903, the daughter of Frank and Arizona Price, a young pioneer couple who came in a wagon train from Alabama to  Oklahoma Indian Territory in 1901.

Her favorite times were with her family, especially her grandchildren, and with the Church of Christ.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hamilton Peers-Lorentzen Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

Wesley Ray Vincent
Production painter

Wesley Ray Vincent, 56, of Dinuba died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001. He was a production painter.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dopkins Chapel, Dinuba. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Smith Mountain Cemetery.

John B. Young
Heavy equipment operator

John was born on Aug. 29, 1934, in Tecumseh, Okla., to Clifford and Pearl Young and passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at the age of 67. John was retired after working as a heavy equipment operator for 46 years, and was a resident of Visalia.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cheryle Young of Selma and Stacey Young of Hanford; his son, Danny Young of Selma; his sister, Juanita Freitas of Visalia; and three grandchildren, Garrett Young, Sarah Young and Trevor Young, all of Selma.

Services will be private.

Jesse H. Curtis

Jesse H. Curtis went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001. He was born Nov. 17, 1929 in Marlow, Okla. When he was a baby, his family moved to  Oklahoma City. At the age of 13, his family moved to California, where he attended both Strathmore High School and Tulare High School, from which he graduated. He was an outstanding athlete, lettering in four sports. He was an active member of the Exeter Church of God, where he met and married Melva  White on Oct. 7, 1950. On March 15, 1951, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He received his training at Camp Roberts and was sent to Korea, where he proudly served his country for the duration of his service time. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
In 1956, he went to work for the Exeter Union High School District, for which he was transportation supervisor for 26 years. In 1982, he and his wife, took early retirement from the school district and moved to Houston,  Texas, to work for Gulf-Coast Bible College. Jesse was an instrumental part in the actual move of the Gulf-Coast Bible College facilities from Houston to Mid-American Bible College in  Oklahoma City. He retired in 1990 from Mid-America and spent his retirement years at his home near Tuttle, Okla. He faithfully attended and served at Shartel Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Melva W. Curtis; a son, Timothy Curtis and his wife, Melissa; a daughter, Cheryl Davis and her husband, Jim; a grandson, Paul; and a granddaughter, Michelle, all of Tuttle, Okla.; two brothers, J.B. Curtis of Noble, Okla., and Stan Curtis of Exeter; a sister, Geri Nelson of Georgia.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary,  Oklahoma City. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Shartel Church of God, 11600 S. Western Ave.,  Oklahoma City.

James Hodge
Computer specialist

TULARE -- James "Jimmy" Stephen Hodge, 33, of Tulare died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001. He was a computer specialist.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be 9 a.m. Monday at Tulare First Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Goble-Miller Funeral Chapel, Tulare.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Attn: Kelly Webb, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.
