George Henry Alcock died in San Vito, Costa Rica on Tuesday, May 30 at age 79.
Mr. Alcock was born May 21, 1927 in Los Angeles. He had been a Yolo County resident for more than 20 years. He served in World War II, was a life long farmer and retired John Deere dealer in Gridley. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, Rotary Club and Comanche Riders. He is remembered by all to be an adventurous world traveler and a gourmet cook.
Survivors include Mr. Alcock’s wife of 50 years, Veneva (Sidwell) Fredericks Alcock; his children, Bill Fredericks of Truckee, Steve Fredericks of Oroville, Vicki Fredericks Murphy of Brooks, Andrea Fox of Sacramento, Janet Farmer of Oregon, Lisa Alcock Bricker of Redondo Beach and George Alexander Alcock of San Vito, Costa Rica; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

A remembrance and celebration of Mr. Alcock’s life will be held at noon Saturday, June 17 at Tomat’s Restaurant, 1123 West Grant Avenue, in Winters.
Margaret Mae Parsons Fred Koolhof, 96, of Nampa, Idaho passed away on Monday, May 29, 2006 at a local care facility. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, at the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel. A private burial preceded the memorial service.
Margaret was born on October 13, 1909 in Filer, Idaho, the daughter of W.D. and Jennie Parsons. In 1914 the family moved to Nampa and were pioneers in the building of Nampa and Northwest Nazarene College. Margaret graduated from NNC in 1931. She married Rev. Glen Fred in 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1935. She married Albert Koolhof of Winters in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1968.
Margaret retired from school teaching in the Winters school district in 1975 after 25 years. Previously she taught school in Idaho: mining town of Stibnite and Island School; high school in Parma, Roswell, Meridian; and Northwest Nazarene College.
She traveled extensively both for pleasure and educational purposes. After retiring back to Nampa in 1975 she remained active in WCTU, serving as state president from 1978-1989; College Church of the Nazarene and college activities. In 1995 she moved to Sunnyridge (now Sun Bridge) Retirement Home where she lived until November of 2004 when she moved to Grace Memory Care.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Gladys Fred, Seattle, Washington; 2 granddaughters, Diane Giesy, Friday Harbor, Washington and Denise Poole, Seattle, Washington; 3 great grandchildren, Rashaan, Alana and Camden; a step son, Albert Koolhof, Jr. and wife, Rose, Grass Valley, 4 step grandchildren, Sherry, Gary, Debbie, Susan; 5 step great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Edith Parsons, Inverness, Florida.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Parsons Scholarship Fund at Northwest Nazarene University, 623 Holly St., Nampa, Idaho 83686.
Lorraine Marie Bei of Winters died in Woodland Saturday, May 27 at age 78.
Mrs. Bei was born June 9, 1927 in San Francisco. She had been a Yolo County resident for 58 years. She attended Notre Dame Catholic School in Chico and graduated from Washington High School in Portland, Oregon. She was a mother, wife, homemaker, worked in banking and was a member of St. Martin’s Parish in Esparto.
Survivors include Mrs. Bei’s husband of 58 years, Dozier Thomas Bei of Winters, her daughter, Karen Marie Bei Keller and her husband Mark Keller of La Jolla; her sons, Ronald Joseph Bei and his wife Jeanne of Sacramento and Thomas Paul Bei and his wife Shelle of Winters; her grandchildren, Spencer Bei of Dixon, Tanner and Haleigh Bei of Winters; her stepgrandson, James Modar of Dixon; and her great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Brandon Bei of Dixon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Pauline Santi and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A rosary was held at 7 p.m. Tursday, June 1 at McNary’s Chapel, 458 College Street in Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 2 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut Street, Woodland with Father Terry Fulton officiating. Entombment was be at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum. A reception to share the memories of Mrs.Bei followed at Holy Rosary Parish Hall.
Mahlon Clifton Nobles died May 29, 2006, at Alderson’s Convalescent Hospital in Woodland. He was 76. Born May 3, 1930, to Mahlon and Willie (McHam) Nobles in Paris; Texas, he attended area schools and graduated from Pecos High School in Pecos, Texas. After high school, he attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948.
A flooring contractor for more than 40 years, he also worked as an adjuster for the U.S. government and was a longtime member of the Assembly of God church. He had been a resident of Yolo County for the past nine years.
He was preceded in death by grandsons Michael Curtis Miller and Dwayne Thomas Nobles.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rose Nobles of Winters; his daughter, Iris Carrion and her husband David of Esparto; five sons, Mahlon Paul Nobles and his wife Linda of Houston, Texas, Michael Clinton Nobles and his wife Tracy of Stockton, Curtis Jock Nobles and his wife Kathy of Modesto and Timmy Jon Nobles and his wife Cindy of Manteca; a brother, Jon Mac Nobles of Georgia; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date, with memorial contributions to be directed to the American Heart Association. Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
Former Winters resident Ward Stavig passed away on May 1 at the age of 57. The son of Lois and George Stavig, he grew up in Willits, where he learned to hunt and fish, and played varsity baseball at Willits High School.
Mr. Stavig earned a masters degree and a doctorate degree at UC Davis, and received his PhD in 1991. While researching his dissertation as a Fulbright Scholar in Peru, he met Peruvian anthropologist Ella Schmidt. They were married in 1986. Mr. Stavig was also a professor of Latin American history at the University of South Florida at Tampa, and retained a passion for the outdoors, cooking, gardening, hunting, fishing and baseball all his life.
He is survived by his mother, Lois Stavig of Willits; wife, Ella Stavig Schmidt; daughters, Lucia and Mariana of Tampa, Florida; aunt Joan Doolittle of Medocino, Jeanne Henley of Crescent City and Phil and Peg Dabel of Oakland.
Stanley W. Smith, of Bandon Oregon passed away June 25, 2007 in Coos Bay. Stan was born June 15, 1920, in Corvallis, the son of Frank and Garnet (Sturgeon) Smith. He died June 25, 2007, in Coos Bay.
He attended Laurelwood Academy in Gaston, graduating from Walla Walla Academy in Walla Walla, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Stan married Dorothy Reck on Sept. 12, 1946, in Glendale. He then attended San Francisco Mortuary College. He worked in San Rafael for several years, moving in 1959 to Davis, where he owned and operated Davis Funeral Chapel, until retiring in 1993. He also owned a funeral home in Winters.
He enjoyed woodworking restoring Model Ts, working on his horse-drawn hearse, and supporting his community. He was an active member of the Seventh-day Advestist Church in Coquille, Oregon.
Stan is survived by son, Dennis Smith and wife, Barbara of Georgetown, grandson, Matthew Smith of Georgetown; brother, Lesley “Les” Smith and wife, Twyla of Coquille; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 2005, and sister, Eleanor Marsh.
A funeral service for Stan was held on, July 2, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Coquille, Oregon. A graveside service followed at Ocean View Memorial Gardens, in Coos Bay.
Mary Alice (Molina) Johnson Jones passed away on June 23, 2007 in Sacramento. Born on Aug. 15, 1935 in Solano County to John and Lillian Molina, she was 71 years old.
She was devoted to her family, and was a Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Sister for over 40 years. She and her sorority sisters found friendship and support in a common cause, and enjoyed many social events that furthered their cause of contributing to the community.
She is survived by her husband James Jones (married in 1994): son and daughter-in-law John and Patrice Johnson; grandsons Brian and Chris Johnson; stepchildren and their spouses, Cheryl, Sharon, Charles and Suzanne, Wyatt and Linda Jones, Marilyn and Mike Szulman-Jones, and Jamie and Chris Elverum; step-grandchildren and a cousin Isabel Harris.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Johnson in 1991 (married in 1954) and son, Tom Johnson.
A visitation was planned for Wednesday, June 27, 6-7:30 p.m. and recitation of the rosary at 7:30 at River Cities Funeral Chapel, 910 Soule Street, in West Sacramento. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 28, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, 911 Park Boulevard, in West Sacramento. Burial is immediately following at St. Marys Cemetery, 6700 21st Avenue, in Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, NY, NY, 10018.
Lowell H. Morris passed away on June 10, at the age of 91. Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 15 at 10 a.m. at Silveyville Cemetery
in Dixon. Pastor Frank Salomone will preside.
Mr. Morris was born in Woodland on September 13, 1915. He attended local schools and was an Eagle Scout.
Mr. Morris worked in the family farming operation until operations were discontinued and the family moved to Dixon to manufacture the first irrigation siphon pipes. That business was run by Mr. Morris’ father, his brother Jim and his sister Margaret and ultimately transitioned to manufacture tent frames and stakes,
Mr. Morris had many varied interests. He was a ham radio operator and built electronic devices from scratch. Mr. Morris was a pilot and had his own glider business. He was the official Dixon weather statistics provider for the Dixon Tribune. He loved photography in many forms from slides to video. He enjoyed fly fishing and hand tied his own flies for himself as well as his friends. He made many treks with his wife Muriel and friends to Sitka, Alaska, to catch salmon and halibut. He was a member of the Dixon Boat Club. He also loved to cook, especially Chinese food. He and his wife traveled with Martin Yan of “Yan Can Cook” on cooking tours of the orient. Mr. Morris also served many years on the Dixon City Council.
Mr. Morris’s wife of 58 years, Muriel, preceded him in death in 2004. Mrs. Morris taught school in Dixon for 30 years, retiring in 1974. Her interest in Dixon students continued and in 1993 she and Mr. Morris established the Muriel M. Morris Educational Foundation. The first scholarship was presented in 1994. The Foundation was established to assist deserving Dixon High School graduates extending their eduation beyond high school. Since its inception the foundation has awarded 14 renewable 4-year scholarships.
Mr. Morris is survived by three nieces, Kim Berg of Graeagle, Monica Mollica of Yuba City, and Lynne Gough of Sacramento, one nephew, Dean Birrel of Windsor. Mr. and Mrs. Morris also had a goddaughter, Nadine Sponamore of Santa Rosa.
Norman E. Gaddini, renowned artist, inventor, and author passed peacefully at his home in Sebastopol, Sonoma County, CA on June 1, 2007.
Born January 9, 1911 in Healdsburg, Mr. Gaddini moved at an early age with his parents, Ernest and Ann Gaddini and brother, Weaver, to Winters where the Gaddini family farmed apricots and almonds in the Wolfskill District.
Mr. Gaddini attended U C Berkeley. While there, his father, Ernest Gaddini was killed in a tractor accident. Accompanied by his brother, Weaver, Norman returned home to farm the family orchards. He and his brother sold their farming operation in 1970 and retired to Sebastopol.
Mr. Gaddini was an acclaimed artist, known worldwide, and owner of 16 U.S. patents, the latest, "Method of Repelling Rodents and Vermin" was granted to him in the year 2000 at age 89. His book, "Mastering the Art of Scratchboard" is still in print and can be purchased from any bookstore or ordered from Amazon.com
Mr. Gaddini is survived by his niece, Lynn Kauffman of Woodland; his nephew, Ernest Gaddini of Winters; sister-in-law, Jean Spain of Woodland; his grandniece, Brittne J. Smith and her husband, Derek Smith of Woodland; his great-great nephew, Teigan Smith and his great-great niece, Briley Smith of Woodland.
A private service will be held at the East Lawn Cemetery
in Sacramento where he will be interred next to his parents and brother. The family requests that those who wish to make memorial contributions be made to the charity of their choice.
