Col. George Spoor Weart, Sr.
U.S.A.F (ret)

George Weart, 81, of Visalia passed away on the thirteenth of November 2001, in Visalia.
He was born in Chicago, Ill. on July 12, 1920 to Douglas and Gertrude Weart. He followed in his father's footsteps and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with the January Class of 1943. In 1945 he was stationed in Tokyo, Japan, where he met and married his wife of 55 years, Elayta M. Chaplin, who was an Army nurse stationed in Tokyo, Japan.

From 1954 to 1958, he was stationed at the Pentagon where he served on an international committee with the Canadian Air Force to determine the best secret sites for both countries defense missiles to protect the North American continent. He had an illustrious career as an Air Force fighter pilot. He flew in several wars and had downed three enemy aircraft during the Second World War. He commanded the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing of Tactical Air Command, and the 35th Tactical Fighter Wing, based on Phan Rang, VietNam. He served in the Air Force for 34 years and flew just about all the fighter jets that America has. But his favorite was always the P-38 Lightning from World War Two.

In 1972, George and Elayta moved to Visalia to be near her elderly parents. They made a life in Visalia, attending the First Christian Church of Visalia, and getting involved in the Tulare County Chapter of Easter Seals. He became President of the Crippled Children's Society of Easter Seals and was quite active for several years.

George was an active member in the Retired Officer's Association and AmVets of California.

George is survived by his wife, Elayta; two loving daughters, Trudy Weart of Tulare and Terry Dougherty of Albuquerque, N.M.; two loving sons, George S. Weart Jr., and his wife, Cindy of Riverside and Gregory S. Weart and his wife, Laura of Henderson, Nev.; a brother, Col. Douglas S. Weart of San Antonio,  Texas; two sisters, Gertrude Ogren and Maryada Artiglia of San Antonio,  Texas; six loving grandchildren, Patrick Weart, Jennifer Hance, Jason Weart, Annette Dougherty, Jocelyn Weart, and Michelle Dougherty; six beautiful great-grandchildren, Samantha Hance, Alexandra Rakestraw, Jocelyn Weart, Jacob Hance, Derek Weart and John Weart; many nieces and nephews throughout the country.

A memorial service will be at the First Christian Church in Visalia on the nineteenth of November at 3 p.m.

Gabriel 'Gabes' Epifanio Zapata
Infant

Gabriel "Gabes" Epifanio Zapata, 1, of Visalia passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001 in Visalia.
He was born in Visalia on Nov. 24, 2000 to Bogar Zapata and Angelic Castro. He had a favorite rabbit that he enjoyed. He will always be remembered as a very sweet little boy with a special bright smile.

Survivors include his parents, Bogar Zapata and Angelic Castro of Visalia; grandparents, Annie Melendres and Epifanio Melendres of Visalia and Benny Zapata of Dinuba and Salvador Castro Sr., of Visalia; aunts and uncles, Melissa Castro, Serena Castro, Salvador Castro Jr., Felicia Castro, Andrew Castro, Benny Zapata and Cristian Zapata; nine cousins, Jessica Bravo, Frank Bravo, Victoria Carranza, Isabela Carranza, Christian Zapata Jr., Lizeth Zapata, Joseph Castro, Gaberille Castro and Stephanie Castro.

Visitation will be from 1-6 Tuesday at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Ave., in Visalia. Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Visalia. Burial will be at Visalia District Cemetery.

James Roy Espindula
Meat processor

James Roy Espindula, 62, of Dinuba died on Saturday, July 21, 2001. He was a meat processor.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Smith Mountain Cemetery. Arrangements are by Dopkins Funeral Chapel, Dinuba.

Mary Anne Huber
Homemaker

Mary Anne Huber, 75, of Visalia died on Tuesday, July 24, 2001. She was a homemaker.
Mary Anne moved to San Gabriel in 1970 and moved to Hanford in the 1980s. She settled in Visalia in 1985. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with her many friends and family, going to senior dances with friends and enjoying an occasional double shot of scotch. Mary Anne was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Huber, in 1984, four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include daughters Deborah Combs of Encino, Theresa Huber of Visalia, Helen Huber of Exeter and Jenny Spilsbury of Las Vegas; sons Bobby Huber and Adam Huber of Visalia; three brothers, Billy, Bob, and Vincent Payne; and three sisters, Jane Skeleton, Betty Jean Reisert and Martha Lee Nichols.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Thursday at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia. Services will be 9 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Vicky Meyer Oswalt
Accounts receivable clerk

Born in Exeter to Robert and Wanda Oswalt on November 29, 1951, she passed away July 22 at St. Agnes Medical Center in Fresno at the age of 49. She was raised and schooled in Visalia, graduating from Mt. Whitney High School in 1969. She married Gary Meyer in Visalia on March 20, 1973. For her working career, she was at Sears for 11 years. In November 1982, she went to work at Visalia Citrus Packing and was an accounts receivable clerk since then. She was quite a seamstress and enjoyed sewing and spending time with her dog, Toby, and her lifelong friend Charlotte Ford.
Survivors include her parents, Bob and Wanda Oswalt of Visalia; grandmother, Anna Chastain of Visalia; one brother, Dennis Oswalt of Visalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Exeter District Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Chapel, Exeter.

Beatrice Hayes Rice
Homemaker

Beatrice Hayes Rice, 99, of Visalia died Monday, July 23, 2001. She was a homemaker.
Services will be at a later date in Waltham, Mass. Arrangements are by Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia.

Brady Waller
Theater projectionist

Brady Waller, 89, of Woodlake died on Monday, July 23, 2001. He was a theater projectionist.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Evans-Miller Exeter Chapel, Exeter. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Exeter District Cemetery.

Edward Emilio Ybarra Jr.
Owner/operator

Edward Emilio Ybarra Jr., 62, of Woodlake died Monday, July 23, 2001. He was the owner and operator of A to Z Sharpening.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia.

Patty Jean De Blauw

CARPINTERIA -- Patty Jean De Blauw, 68, of Carpinteria passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001. Her earthly body left us way to early in life, but it is truly a blessing to know she is with her heavenly Father, enjoying eternal life. For those of us who had the good fortune of knowing her and having her in our lives, she will always be with us in our thoughts and memories. She was truly quite a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, we will miss you and love you always.
Patty was born in Minnesota on Dec. 7, 1932, and married Robert Joe De Blauw on Feb. 10, 1951, which they just celebrated 50 years of wonderful marriage together. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Visalia for 20 some years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Marie Hughes and a granddaughter, Tess Mirand De Blauw.

Her survivors include her husband, Robert Joe De Blauw of Carpinteria; sons, Joel W. De Blauw and Steven H. De Blauw both of Visalia; daughters, Catherine Atchley of Visalia and Lynnetta Plant of Santa Barbara; brothers, Gerald Zaske of Morton, Minn., and Weldon Zaske of Santa Cruz; sisters, Margie Dodge of Minneapolis, Minn., Shirley Sweeney of Elkriver, Minn., Debra Munsell of Franklin, Minn., and Lois Cairnes of Fairmont, Minn.; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-laws.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Carpinteria Community Church.
