Paul Brown

Paul Brown, 79, of Cuyama, passed away in Santa Maria July 28, 2004. Memorial services will be held in the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. Rev. Sam  White, pastor of the Cuyama Assembly of God, will officiate.

Mr. Brown was born in Dinuba May 30, 1925. He was raised from age 7 to 17 on his foster parents' ranch in Cuyama that later became his beloved home. At the age of 17, Mr. Brown joined the U.S. Navy and served four years during World War II. He was recalled by the Navy to serve 18 months during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Taft and owned and operated Dave's Glass Shop for the next 30 years and retired to the ranch in Cuyama in 1974. For the next 12 years, he drove a school bus in the Cuyama Valley. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Taft and the Taft Exchange Club. Mr. Brown was a lifetime member of the NRA.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Alene Brown in October 2003; his parents, Sherman and Eva Brown; his foster parents, Wilbur and Nancy Patterson; his two sisters and his three brothers. Mr. Brown is survived by his sons, Steve Brown and his wife, Cindy, of Los Osos, and Randy Brown of Cuyama; his daughters, Susie Brown of Lincoln; Debbie Bales and her husband, Jim, of Bakersfield; and Jane Collins and her husband, Brian, of Bakersfield; his brother, Herb Brown and his wife, Pat, of Oregon; his 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

There are no visitation hours scheduled and the services are under the direction of the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.

Mabel Young

Mabel Young, 98, of Santa Maria, passed away July 26, 2004 at Country Oaks Care Center. She was born Nov. 25, 1905, in Ottawa, Kan., to Henry Lee and Amanda Rush.

She has been a resident of Santa Maria since June 1969, after living in Kansas City, Kan., most of her life. She was a member of Stony Point Christian Church, Kansas City, Kan., Mizpah Chapter of the Eastern Star in Santa Maria,  Calif., and a seasoned veteran of the Santa Maria Valley Strutters Club. She was married to Cecil Young in 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., and together they raised a daughter, Norma Jean Young. Mabel worked in the garment industry until she retired after 20 years. Mabel was an accomplished seamstress and an avid gardner. She remained active up until a year ago, when an illness curtailed her activities.

She was especially fond of her great-grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. She will be sorely missed by those of us that knew and loved her. Mabel is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean Stalcup and her husband, Billy Stalcup, of Santa Maria; her brother, Edward Lee of Lonedell, Mo.; grandchildren, Bronya Rothwell, Jay Stalcup and Tanya Stalcup, all residing in California; great-grandchildren, Tysha Rothwell, Kasondra Hunsucker, Alexus Stalcup-Gutierrez and Amanda Stalcup; she was also blessed with three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews residing throughout Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky,  Oklahoma and California. Mabel was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Cecil J. Young, in 1959.

Graveside services to be held in Kansas City, Kan., at a later date.

Wallace C. Allen, 89, of Santa Maria, died July 28, 2004. Arrangements are pending at Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

William E. "Bill" Hoener, 74, of Santa Maria, died July 28, 2004. Memorial services are pending at Grace Lutheran Church, Santa Maria. Arrangements under the care of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory.

Virginia E. Stocking, 83, of Santa Maria, died July 29, 2004. Arrangements under the care of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory.

Patricia Whitten, 78, of Santa Maria, died July 29, 2004. Arrangements are pending at Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Marie Chalke Ramsey

A funeral Mass for Marie Chalke Ramsey, 96, was celebrated at Saint Mark's In-the-Valley Episcopal Church at 1 p.m. Sept. 19.

Mrs. Ramsey died at her Santa Ynez home on Sept. 16. Born Sept. 19, 1908 on the Roaring Springs Ranch in Motley County,  Texas to a pioneer family, she was the youngest and last surviving of two brothers and five sisters. Named "Baby Doll" by her parents, she changed her name to Marie.

A graduate of Southern Methodist University, she was a fourth grade school teacher. She married Frank R. Ramsey, who was an executive with the Atlantic Pipeline Company that has since been acquired by British Petroleum.

Preceded in death by her husband and son Capt. William Ramsey, USN. She is survived by daughters Rinda and Michael Brown, and Sherry Ramsey of Santa Ynez; daughter-in-law Karen Ramsey of Poulsbo, Wash.; grandchildren Samantha and Zachary of Santa Ynez, Jeanne-Marie, Laura, and Robb of  Washington; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations in her honor can be made to the Hospice of the Central Coast or the St. Mark's In-the-Valley Episcopal Church capital fund.

Patti Munn

Services were held Friday, Aug. 20 at Wiefels and Sons Mortuary in Palm Springs for Patti Munn, 79, of Palm Springs, who died Aug. 18 of natural causes.

Munn was born Oct. 13, 1924 in Corvallis, Ore. She lived in the Santa Ynez Valley for five years. She was a retired photographer who had worked for Palm Springs Life Magazine. While in Santa Ynez, she worked with Morgan horses at Titan Farms. She also worked at Santa Ynez Paint and Glass and volunteered at the Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society.

Survivors include daughters Janis Christian, of Mountain Center,  Calif., Melodie Munn of Santa Ynez; son Jon Kudi, of Lebanon, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Donations can be made her memory to a local animal shelter or humane society.

Donna R. Johnson

Family and friends can pay their respects to Donna Ruth Johnson, 60, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 at the Loper Funeral Chapel, 2465 Baseline Ave. Ballard. Services will beheld at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 2627 Janin Way, Solvang. Interment follows at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard.

Born Jan. 8, 1944 in Santa Barbara, she died Sept. 18 in Santa Maria after suffering a massive stroke. She was an avid and enthusiastic mother, horsewoman, ballroom dance teacher, professional hairdresser and healthcare provider certified nurses assistant.

Survivors include daughters Uthana R. Gosenberg, Shemane L. Davis and April R.  Johnson of Santa Ynez and Colleen Smith and Jennifer S. Hampson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandsons Daniel C. Gosenberg, Jordan J. Smith, Dalton J. Hampson and Colby J. Johnson; sisters Valerie Jean Turk and Anita Myers; andbrother Paul Gandy.

Forrest Fowler, 89, of Santa Maria, died August 1, 2004, arrangements by Magner-Maloney Funeral Home.

Ronald Lee Glendinning, 79, of Santa Maria, died July 30, 2004, arrangements pending at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.

Jack Denton Cogan

Jack Denton Cogan, 62, of Santa Maria, formerly of Goleta, went home to be with his Lord and Savior July 30, 2004.

He was born in Santa Barbara,  Calif., on March 28, 1942. Jack graduated from Santa Barbara High School and Santa Barbara City College. He worked and served at the Santa Barbara Police Department for more than 30 years and was affectionately known as "Pooh Bear." Because of his great love for children, Jack was also known for his volunteer service at the Goleta Railroad Museum. Upon retiring, Jack worked at the Santa Barbara Transportation Company as a driver for the city schools.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years of marriage, Harriet E. Cogan; his sons, Charles Cogan and family, of N. M., and Scott Cogan and family, of Eugene, Ore. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cogan.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary with internment at the Santa Maria Cemetery. A graveside service will be held Wednesday Aug. 4, 2004 at 3 p.m. Pastor David Jacobs and Pastor Opal Daily will officiate the service.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Santa Barbara on Aug. 21, 2004, at 2 p.m.

Wallace Allen, 80, of Santa Maria died July 28, 2004. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Magner-Maloney Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Santa Maria Cemetery. Arrangements are by Magner-Maloney Funeral Home.

Steven John Patterson, 56, of Phoenix, Ariz., died July 28, 2004. Patterson, the president and CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures, graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1966. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Ariz. Interment is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the San Carlos Catholic Cemetery in Monterey. Arrangements are by Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home in Phoenix.

Mary Ellen Smith, 69, of Lompoc died July 30, 2004. Arrangements are pending at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.

Arthur "Art" Winters, 87, of Santa Maria died July 31, 2004. Arrangements are pending at Magner-Maloney Funeral Home.

Virginia 'Gini' Stocking

Virginia "Gini" Stocking, 83, of Santa Maria passed away July 29, 2004, at Country Oaks Care Center.

A private internment will be held at a later date.

Virginia was born in Santa Paula,  Calif., Dec. 19, 1920, the only child of Willa and Art Dawley. She graduated from Ventura High School and moved to Riverside,  Calif., where she worked as a secretary at Food Machinery, where she met and married Donald Stocking in 1946 after his return from the Navy in World War II. They lived in Southern California until 1977, when they moved to Orcutt. Gini worked at Musser Seed until her retirement in 1982.

Gini was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend. She loved reading, camping, traveling and shopping. Her smile, laughter and love will truly be missed.

Mrs. Stocking was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Donald Stocking, in 1992. She is survived by her son, Jeff, and his wife, Barbara, of Santa Maria; granddaughter, Erin Shippey, and her husband, Mike; and great-grandchildren Matthew and Julia of Manhattan Beach,  Calif.

Special thanks to the staff of Country Oaks Care Center who provided Gini with such good care in her final months.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory.
