Bennie Wyatt

Bennie Wyatt was born Jan. 10, 1930 in West  Jefferson, N.C., where she lived through her high school years. She passed away April 28, 2007 in Solvang,  Calif.

Soon after her first son Gordon was born she married Roy Wyatt, also a resident of West  Jefferson and a career military soldier. The military led them to many places, including Spring Lake and Fort Bragg; both in North Carolina. In 1958 her second son Ray was born and then in 1967, Bennie and her family moved to Paso Robles, where Roy, her husband, was stationed at Camp Roberts. She loved California and after several years in Paso Robles, and after her sons graduated from high school, she and Roy moved to Lompoc. While living there she started working at the Alisal Guest Ranch in Solvang and remained working there for the next 25 years.

After her divorce from Roy she moved to Solvang and remained there for the rest of her life. She loved working for the Alisal and also worked at several other restaurants as well. She had many loving friends here in the Santa Ynez Valley and she loved working and living here; it was truly the place she called home.

She will miss all the people in her life, especially her Alisal family, her work mates at the Jule Hus Christmas store, Paula, and the Watts family. She will also miss her close friend Betty, the people at the senior center, and her quilting friends, which she truly enjoyed. She will especially miss Dana and Kevin Haley and Shopia, whom she loved dearly and talked about all the time.

Bennie is survived by her two sons, Gordon and Ray, her favorite sister Mary Phillips, whom she loved very much; her brothers, Jim and Rusty Fegurson, and her favorite cousin Greg Fegurson. We will all miss her.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard.

Arrangements were handled by the Loper Funeral Chapel.

Barbara (Jensen) Jacobsen

Barbie (Jensen) Jacobsen passed away on April 24, 2007 at her ranch home in San Jose. She was born Feb. 3 1946 in Santa Barbara and lived in Solvang until 1969 when she married Ralph Jacobsen and moved to Merced where they raised two lovely daughters, Nancy and Becky.

Barbara was the daughter of former Sovang residents Judge Arden and Flossie Jensen. She was a graduate of SYVUHS (class of 1963) and USC School of Nursing.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her husband Ralph, her brother Tom and family of the Seattle area, daughters and families Nancy and Chris Stout and Becky and Joe Devenport, and grandsons Finn and Owen Stout.

Barbie and Ralph have long enjoyed and worked an adventurous ranching life together.

She also maintained an interest and involvement in various community services, most recently, the Santa Clara County Cattlewoman’s Association. She had a great sense of humor and was always eager to tell or hear a good story; her love of storytelling must have been inherited from her father, Arden.

She has always appreciated the outdoors, and was especially fond of her own four-legged friends. Most of all, Barbie loved spending time with her family. She is remembered for the wonderful things she did for us all and the love she always gave us. The newest loves of Barbie’s life were Finn and Owen. She was an amazing Mor Mor and they adored her. We will miss her and she will always be in our hearts.

A memorial celebration for Barbara will be held at Ralph and Barbara’s home in San Jose on May 19.

Arrangements were by Darling Fischer Garden Chapel in San Jose.
