Caroline Romero
Caroline Romero died Sept. 28, 2004 in Livermore. She was 85.
The Colorado native had lived in Livermore for 62 years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Caroline loved her work and enjoyed her many friends, loved to read and traveling to Reno.
She is survived by sisters Jane Martinez and Mary Lamon and nieces Linda Stevens and Pat Archuleta, all of Livermore. She was preceded in death by her husband Ross Romero in 1969, son Charles Romero, brothers Frank Maestas and Ray Masteas and her sister Josie Archuleta.
Funeral services were held Oct. 6 in Livermore. Burial was at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery
in Livermore.

Patricia Keiser
Patricia Eileen Keiser died Sept. 28, 2004 in Pleasanton. She was 77.
The Oregon native had lived in Brentwood for four years. Prior to that she lived in San Ramon for 20 years. She attended St. Mary’s Nursing Academy and graduated from the Newark, NJ Police Academy. She was appointed the first woman police officer of the Newark, NJ Police Dept., a city of over 500,000. She worked there from 1950-1953. Later she worked in management, as a regional trainer for Kelly Services in San Francisco and Oakland, where she had many friends and business associates. Her affiliates include Sweet Adelines and “New Year’s Eve Revelers” - a group of 8 couples who celebrated the new year together for 36 consecutive years. Her hobbies include singing, music, dogs, theater, and dancing.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ray Keiser of Brentwood, son Father Michael D. Keiser of Brentwood and son-in-law Ray Varanese of Castro Valley; daughter Susan Varanese of Castro Valley, daughter-in-law Angie Keiser of Florida, and Janet Keiser of San Francisco, a sister Jerri Mosgrove of Bend, OR., four grandchildren and one great granddaughter, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nell and brother Jack.
A memorial service was held Oct. 4 in Pleasanton.

Agnes Edwards
Agnes M. Edwards of San Ramon passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Oct. 1, 2004. She was 83.
She will be remembered for her spunky personality and caring ways. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve and VFW. She took extreme pride in her beautiful rose garden and loved to feed the neighborhood birds and squirrels. She enjoyed spoiling her dog Maynard and was “adopted” by Baby Cat.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Donna and Dennis Robison, two grandsons and a great granddaughter. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Ernest Edwards in a private family service on Oct. 14.
Remembrances may be made in her name to the Hope Hospice of Dublin.

Evelyn Mulqueeney Griffith
Following a recent stroke, Evelyn Griffith, 94 years of age, passed away at her Brentwood home on October 3rd.
Evelyn (Evie) Mulqueeney Griffith was born on the family ranch at Midway, the eldest daughter of Mike and Gladys Mulqueeney, a prominent Livermore ranching family. She was educated at a one-room school, Midway School, and at Presentation High school at the Convent of St. Joseph the Worker in Berkeley.
The first woman in her family to go to college, she graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1932. She moved to Brentwood in 1934 to teach English, Spanish, French and Latin at Liberty High School where she taught for more than 40 years, educating many generations of Brentwood high school students. She was regarded with deep affection by her students and fellow teachers.
In 1935, she married Lowell Griffith (1907—1966), a Brentwood farmer, Oldsmobile dealer and founding member of the Lions Club.
Devoted to her extended family, a caring and supportive mentor to her many students, she was very much a kind and loving mother to her two children, Jean Stice of Grass Valley and Michael Griffith of San Francisco, a dear and generous grandmother to her four grandchildren Eric and Laura Stice, David and Lucas Griffith, and her great-grandsons Zachary and Nicholas Stice. She maintained very close ties with her Mulqueeney family sisters and brothers and all their families.
Evie was active in the Alliance Francaise, chaperoning several student groups on trips to France. She also hosted foreign exchange students through the American Field Service. After retiring, she taught adult literacy and tutored blind students. She traveled extensively and busied herself with a variety of political, environmental and medical causes, children’s and animals’ rights.
She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Brentwood, the Oakley Women’s Club and several local bridge clubs.
A Memorial Mass will be held for Evelyn at 11am, Friday October 8 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Fairview and Central in Brentwood. Donations may be made in Evelyn’s memory to the charity of your choice.
Stephen Martinez
Stephen D. Martinez died Oct. 3, 2004 in Concord. He was 37.
The Dublin, CA native had lived in Concord for ten years. He attended Parkway Baptist Church as a young man and graduated from Dublin High School. He was employed at Super Cuts for many years after becoming a stylist in the 1980s. He loved doing children’s hair. He was a sci fi man and enjoyed watching Star Trek; loved singing and dancing and stuffed animals (monkeys).
He is survived by his father Phillip Martinez, Jr. of Dublin, nieces Lucy Bush, Izzy Amerine-Markus, Abby Amerine-Oren and Linda Mae Churchill; a sister Karen Amerine-Oren of Suisun, sister-in-law and brother Phillip and Betty Martinez of Dublin. He was preceded in death by his mother Linda Mae Martinez in 1989.
Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 7 at Callaghan Mortuary, 4844 East Avenue, Livermore. Services will be held at the same location on Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery
in Livermore.

Irene Larimore
Livermore native and lifelong resident Irene “Rene” Larimore died November 23, 2004 at Hacienda Care Center. She was 85. She was born in a small farmhouse on Tesla Road to Josephine and Daniel Sachau. She attended St. Michael’s School and Livermore High School, but graduated from Oakland Tech. She married and had two children with Elmer Miles. After divorcing, she graduated from Merrit Business School in 1946 and took a position as secretary to the chief of state at the Veteran’s Hospital in Livermore where she worked for the next 30 years. During that time she met and married Al Larimore. They shared almost 57 years of married life, raising children, boating, hiking, building a cabin at Lake Almanor, snow skiing, reading and enjoying their family. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband Al Larimore, a daughter Lori Sinclaire of Lake Almanor, son Gary Miles of Mt. View, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held for the family only. Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice, 6500 Dublin Blvd., Suite 100, Dublin, CA 94568.
James “Dave” Elkins
James “Dave” David Elkins died November 24, 2004 in Pleasanton. He was 69. The Michigan native had lived in Pleasanton for 34 years, moving here from Chelsea, MI in 1970. He was a practicing protestant. He was a handyman who loved working on various projects. He designed and sold swimming pools. He is survived by his partner Judith Johnstone, daughter Karen Miller of Livermore, a son, Jeff Elkins, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Nov. 30 in Livermore. Burial was at the San Joaquin National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Shepherd’s Gate in Livermore.
Eleanor J. Hoag
Eleanor J. Hoag died November 26, 2004 in Pleasanton. She was 80. The San Francisco native had lived in Livermore for 31 years, She worked as a bank teller for Wells Fargo Bank, retiring after six years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Her hobbies included spending time with children and great grandchildren, attending social gatherings, and playing bingo. She is survived by daughters Cheryl Desper of Livermore, Victoria Foster of Livermore, a son William J. Hoag, Jr., eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William H. Hoag, Sr. in 1988. Funeral services were held Nov. 30 in Livermore. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery
in Colma.
George Kumparak
George Steven Kumparak died November 18, 2004. He was 72. The Arizona native had lived in Livermore for 34 years. A second generation Croatian, George served as president and treasurer for an organization that provided scholarship funds for Croatian students to attend college. He served in the Army as a military policeman during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor’s degree in business. He retired from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1991 after spending 31 years in the personnel department. He worked endlessly on his property, building and gardening. He spent time with his 7 children and 16 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Joan Kumparak, daughters Kim Chavez of San Jose, Stacy Chavez of Gilroy, Lisa Harris of Livermore, and Dr. Lori Carpenter of Livermore; sons Chip Kumparak of Morgan Hill, Matthew Kumparak of Sunnyvale, and Paul Brostrom of Livermore; a sister, Mary Vanover of Tuscon, AZ, a brother Peter Vlastelica of Mesa, AZ, and sixteen grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 4 at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 8850 Davona Dr., Dublin. Burial will be private. Marciano B. Zamora
Marciano B. Zamora died November 27, 2004 at Dameron Hospital in Stockton. He was 46. The native of the Philippine Islands had lived in Stockton for two years. He came to the U.S. in 1976, settling in Livermore and living there until his move to Stockton. He was a tool cleaner/assembly worker with Ames Taping Tool for eight years. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Livermore. His hobbies included playing pool and fishing. He enjoyed basketball, especially the LA Lakers. He enjoyed helping his children with their math homework. He is survived by his wife Dominga C. Zamora of Stockton, daughters Jacqueline, Jennifer, Janice and Janet Zamora, all of Stockton; a son Jerome Zamora of Stockton; sisters Remedios Zamora, Eusebia Seril and Acosta Quiniones, all of Livermore, and Clarita Machacon of Visalia; brothers Germiniano Zamora of Patterson and Abraham Zamora of Orisi, and Robert Zamora and Rick Zamora, both of Livermore. He was preceded in death by his parents Teodorico and Simplicia Zamora and a brother Stanislaus Zamora. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Dec. 1 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Livermore. Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery

David Wacenske
David Wacenske died November 24, 2004 at his home in Livermore. He was 49. The Washington native had lived in Livermore for 25 years. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed motorcycles, traveling and was known for his mechanical building talents. He was known as a “professional tinkerer.” He wanted to send the message, “do not smoke,” as his life was cut short by lung cancer. He is survived by his wife Pamela Wacenske of Livermore and a daughter Nicole Rae Wacenske of Livermore, two brothers, six sisters, and close family friends Tami and Dan Uriz of Dublin and Donna and Jose Rodriguez of Dublin. Claud Murphy
Claud William Murphy died November 26, 2004 in Walnut Creek. He was 84. The Oklahoma native had lived in Livermore for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He was self-employed, owning hotels in Oakland. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Maudie Murphy, a son Frank Boring of Modesto, a sister Judy House of Santa Rosa and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Dec. 1 in Livermore. Burial was private. Arrangements by Callaghan Mortuary.
Rose Brandolino Lenhart
Rose Brandolino Lenhart, 78, died peacefully at home on November 25, 2004. The native of Dawson, New Mexico, had lived in Pleasanton for 13 years. After leaving Dawson, she moved to Ventura where she met her husband. She was a Navy wife until they settled in Los Alamos, NM for 24 years. She worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the library. She loved to read, enjoy her pets, spend time with her family, and travel with her daughter. She was very active in the V.I.P. Club at the Pleasanton Senior Center serving as treasurer for several years and helping out prior to meetings. She was a member of the Catholic Community of Pleasanton. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Lenhart of Pleasanton, nephew Robert Nicoletto, his wife Nancy and their children of Clovis, nephew Terry Nicoletto, his wife, Vicki, and their children of Ventura, and many other nieces, nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barry Norton Lenhart, five sisters and two brothers. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thurs., Dec. 9 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 3999 Bernal Ave., Pleasanton. She will be buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery
in Santa Fe, NM, next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in the name of Rose Lenhart be made to the American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements by Graham-Hitch Mortuary.
Keith Smallwood Fraser
Keith passed away at his home in Livermore on December 6, 2004, with his wife and daughters at his side. He will be missed by many people whose lives he touched either professionally or socially. He was a well respected businessman and a friend to many. He was born May 31, 1936 at Saint Paul’s Hospital in Livermore to Donald and Genevieve Fraser. He attended 5th Street School, graduated from Livermore High School in 1954, and from Stanford University, Class of 1958. At Stanford he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and played soccer for the University. He received his LLB from Hastings College of Law in 1961 and was admitted to the California Bar that same year. He became a deputy district attorney from 1961 to 1963 and then joined the law firm of Haley, Schenone, Tucker, Birchfield, and Smith. In 1971, Keith formed the law firm of Varni, Fraser, Hartwell and remained active in the firm until his death. During his professional years, Keith served on numerous boards, commissions and committees. He was particularly proud of his time spent as Director of Livermore National Bank, Community First National Bank and Chairman of the Board, Northern California Community Bank Corporation and Director of California Bancshares. He was a member of East Alameda County, Alameda County and the American Bar Association State Bar of California, and was a member of and chairman of the State Bar Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation. Keith served as legal counsel for Valley Memorial Hospital and Castlewood Country Club for twenty years and legal counsel for the Transit Authority for 18 years. He also enjoyed his service to Boosters, which supports local high school sports, and was a member of the Pleasanton Men’s Club and the Native Sons. Aside from a full and successful legal career, Keith had many other interests. As Kandu the Clown, he was seen in many downtown parades, children’s birthday parties, and did magic shows for school children (and children of all ages). He was a photographer, getting an early start working for the local Livermore newspaper while in high school. His photography was accepted into many shows and exhibits. He was most happy capturing the action of the many sporting events his grandchildren participated in from baseball to soccer and football. He enjoyed trips to the beach, fishing with the family and telling “stories” about old time Livermore and providing daily updates to friends about the grandkids. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marilyn; daughters Julie Fraser Howard and Jennifer Fraser, a son-in-law John Howard, sister, Dona Blackmore, and daughter-in-law Angela Carpino Fraser, as well as grandchildren, Trevor, Justin and Jessica Howard, and Kayla Fraser. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Keith Fraser, in 1999. Rosary will be celebrated Sun., Dec. 12 at Callaghan Mortuary, with visitation from 3 to 7 p.m., 3833 East Avenue, Livermore. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 458 Maple Street, Livermore. In accordance with his wishes, a fund is being established in his memory to further educational and athletic pursuits of Livermore youth. Details will be forthcoming. Juliana Marie Aleva
Juliana Marie Aleva, beloved daughter of David Aleva of Pleasanton and Donna M. Marie of Danville, passed away on November 1, 2004 following a long illness. She was born at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Boston in 1971 and spent most of her life in the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated from The Athenian School in Danville and went on to the University of Oregon, University of the Pacific, and John F. Kennedy University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in business. Most recently she worked as a product development consultant for the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company. She had also been employed by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco SPCA. Her lifelong passions were automobiles and animal rights. Her passion for cars was inherited from and shared with her dad. Julie and her sidekick Sparkie, a restored (by her) 1974 red Volkswagen 412 Station Wagon, loved attend VW shows all over the west, winning many trophies. Julie’s second passion, animal rights, resulted in her maintaining a vegan life-style for the past 20 years and throughout her illness. Her dedication to calling attention to animal cruelty inspired and influenced many, especially her mom, Donna. She will be remembered for her dazzling smile, her bubbly personality and compassion for people as well as animals. She worked with children as a volunteer at Raphael House, a shelter for homeless families in San Francisco. She also volunteered with several animal rescue organizations. She is survived by her parents, Donna and David, her maternal grandmother Marie Balog of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, her longtime partner Ryan Holmboe of San Jose, her extended family in and around Pennsylvania, a host of friends and her three beloved cats, Margie, Rita and Rose. Julie’s life was celebrated in Pennsylvania on November 13. Enid I. Watty
Enid I. Watty died November 29, 2004 at Kaiser in Walnut Creek. She was 82. The native of Australia had lived in Pinole for the past 30 years. Her hobbies were gardening and traveling. She is survived by her husband Joseph Watty of Pinole, a daughter and son-in-law Karen A. and Robert Smith (Robert) of Livermore, sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Dawna Watty of Alameda, Greg and Glenda Watty of Emeryville and Garrett and Kerry Watty of Walnut Creek, ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Liddle. A celebration of her life was held Dec. 8 at the San Pablo Sportsmen’s Club. Arrangements by Callaghan Mortuary.

Roxie Krikorian
Roxie Krikorian died December 3, 2004 in San Ramon. She was 83. The Fresno, CA native had lived in Pleasanton for 35 years, moving here from Oakland where she had lived for 21 years. She was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. She was a member of the St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church. She is survived by sons David Krikorian of Danville and Michael Krikorian of Pleasanton, a brother Calvin (Bob) Sarkisian of Fresno and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Mihran Krikorian, who died in Oakland on Aug. 22, 2004. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thurs., Dec. 9 at Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St., Pleasanton. Marjorie Thomas
Marjorie Elsie Thomas died December 4, 2004 in Stockton. She was 82. The Idaho native had lived in Manteca for three years, moving there from Pleasanton where she had lived since 1957. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3rd Ward, Pleasanton, where she held various church positions. She was a 22 year employee at Dean’s Cafe in Pleasanton. She and her husband were Raiders season ticket holders for years. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, golfing, traveling and spending many summers in Jackson, WY. She enjoyed watching sports and making afghans for all. She had a special fondness for her miniature Chihuahua, “Princess.” She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Janet and Joe Brown of Lathrop; daughters Evelyn Walindzinski of Rosamond and Judy Thomas of Fremont, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Peggy Thomas of Fremont, sisters Edna Hyer of Utah, Emma Burke of Idaho and Lorraine Hutchinson of Wyoming, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Owen Thomas in 2001 and a son, Kenneth Thomas in 2003. Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Thurs., Dec. 9 at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Avenue, Livermore.
