Joan Carol Farrington
Joan Carol Farrington passed
from this earth on March 21,
2008, after a long, courageous
battle with breast cancer.
Born on August 17, 1948, in
Philadelphia, to Ralph
Farrington and Carol Cornish,
Joan grew up in Needham, Massachusetts.
After attending
Mitchell Junior College and
Wagoner, Joan graduated from
Suffolk University with a BA in
Psychology. In 1981, she married
Paul Adler and moved out west
to Livermore, California, her
adoptive home where she raised
her two sons and many pets with
immense love and warmth.
A selfless servant of God all
her life, Joan held a very dear
place in her heart for her sister
Diane Farrington and the hundreds
of seniors and disabled in
her exercise classes at the Hayward
Adult School. A lifelong
love of music, an adept artistic
touch, a green thumb, and a passion
for Native American culture
characterized this special
woman. But what truly distinguished
Joan was her determination,
her unflinching faith in humanity
– summed up by her
credo, “people are people” – and,
most of all, her love, respect and
compassion towards everyone
and her devotion to her two
boys.
She is survived by her sons
Kevin Farrington Adle and
Kristopher Evans Adler and their
father Paul, her sister Diane, her
brother Bruce Farrington, cousins
Sally Farrington-Clute, Barbara
Farrington, and June
Merwin, and many wonderful
friends and relatives. She will be
missed dearly.
