Robert Wellman Batz
Robert (Bob) Wellman Batz
was born on April 22, 1945 in
Sebastapol, CA as Lee David
Turpel, then, was adopted by
Wellman Ford Batz and Dorothy
Louise Batz(Stromberg) and was
named Robert Wellman Batz.
Robert went home to be with
the Lord on April 23, 2009 after
battling heart disease and
diabetes, he had just turned 64
years old.
Robert graduated from Las
Lomas High School in Walnut
Creek, CA and earned degrees in
Business and Criminology from
University of California, Berkeley.
He grew up in Walnut Creek
and Danville, CA. He had also
resided in Dublin, Livermore and
Stockton, CA; Reno, NV; and
Medford and Ashland, OR.
Robert enjoyed being involved
in his community, he was associated
with the following organizations:
Rotary Club/Livermore,
YMCA/Livermore, Wilderness
Camp for the deaf, and Continuing
Care for Children, Inc.
Robert used to manage the
Carpets and Colors store when
it was in Livermore years ago.
Robert served his country as
a United States Marine from
1963-1967.
Robert is survived by his family:
Daughters/grandchildren:
Cynthia Lindsay(Batz) married
to Tony Lindsay with daughter
Sara Lindsay of Livermore, CA;
Lisa Batz and son Lamario Batz
of Medford, OR; Catherine Batz
of Central Point, OR; sisters, Jean
(Antonia) Chavez of Sonoma,
CA; Carolyn Chofre' of Alameda,
CA; brother, David Turpel of
Santa Rosa, CA, the mothers to
Robert's daughters, Kristine Batz
of Livermore, CA and Sheila
Batz of Central Point, OR, and
wife, . Paula Frey of Oregon.
Robert loved a good laugh, especially
from telling great jokes.
We will miss him so much.
To honor Robert's wishes, a
private family memorial service
will take place.

James R. Payton
Jim was born on April 11,
1947 in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
and moved to California at the
age of 10.
Jim passed away peacefully
on Friday afternoon May 22
2009, with his loving wife at
his side.
He was an avid fisherman and
loved the great outdoors. Jim
truly loved life.
He was a good handyman and
could fix just about anything,
he also served at U.S. Army as
Military Police.
Jim will be sadly missed by
his wife Cindy Payton, as they
were married 23 years. He will
be missed by his pet cat Punkin
and loving sisters, Janet Worland
and Adel  Johnson along with a
mutitude of close friends and
neighbors.
A Memorial Service was held
on May 28 at 4pm at Callaghan
Mortuary and Burial on May 29th
at 1pm at Sacramento Valley National
cemetery in Dixon..
In Lieu of flowers the family
desired donations be sent to the
Veterans Affairs in Livermore.

Rory Law Wolf
Rory was born in Castro Valley
December 10, 1956. Left us
on May 14, 2009 at the age of
52. Rory is survived by his three
children Joshua Wolf and wife
Elli, daughter Megan Wolf and
son  Jackson Wolf, two granddaughters
Scarlet and Violet.
He is also survived by his sister
Robin Simpson her husband
Mitchell, and nieces, nephews,
aunts, uncle, and cousins. He
will also be remembered by many
friends, Tim, Anna, Pat, Kevin,
Laurie, Billy, Austin and too
many more to name
He was a member of the Independent
order of Odd Fellows,
the Tri-Valley Moose Lodge and
the Boys Scouts of America. He
was a Navy Veteran. He graduated
from Granada High, class
of 1975
His joy was family, friends,
the Boy Scouts and being a
grandpa
A memorial will be held at the
Odd fellows Hall, 2160 First St.,
Livermore on June 4 at 1:00pm.

Laverne Opal Lossbom
Laverne Opal Lossbom passed
away peacefully, at the age of 89,
on May 27, 2009. Laverne was
born in Yakima, WA on October
3, 1919. She held the position
as secretary for Tri-Valley Engineering
for 15 years until well
into her 80’s, retiring in 2004.
She was preceded in death by
her oldest daughter, Norma Mc-
Grath and her grandson, Jeffrey
McGrath.
Laverne is survived by her
son Scott and his wife; Michelle
Lossbom-London and
daughter;Beverly Humphrey. She
is also survived by her grandchildren;
Clinton and Ryan Humphrey
and Alexander London, all
of whom were very dear to her.
Family and friends are invited
to attend a Memorial service
for Laverne on Thursday, June
4, 2009 at 7 p.m. at Callaghan
Mortuary, 3833 East Ave., Livermore.

Edward W. Ruby
Edward W. Ruby, 91, of Dublin,
Passed away on August 24, 2008 after
a 16 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Ed was born in Trolley, N.D. on
May 4, 1917. He grew up in Colorado
Springs where he met and married his
wife, Dorothy. He served in the Navy
from 1942 through 1946. After the
war he spent many years working for
the armed forces as a merchandise
manager which allowed him to move
his family to many wonderful locations
including 3 years in Germany.
He then worked in sales until his
retirement. Ed enjoyed woodworking
and his family treasures several beautiful
toy chests that he made for them.
He is lovingly remembered as a dedicated
husband, a loving and generous
father and grandfather and as an easy
going man with a sweet and gentle
spirit.
He was preceded in death by his
parents Howard and Lauretta, his sister,
Wilma and his son, Kenneth. He is
survived by his wife of 66 years,
Dorothy Ruby, his daughter Sharyn
Henshaw and her husband, Tim, and
their sons Jeff and Robb Henshaw.
Services will be Sept. 5 at 10:30 am
at Graham Hitch Mortuary in Pleasanton
at 4167 First Street, Pleasanton.
The family would like to say a special
thank-you to the wonderful caregivers
at Amazing and Gracious Living and
to the dedicated Hospice nurses. Remembrances
may be made to Hope
Hospice of Dublin, CA.

Sheridan Matthew Kerr
Long time Livermore resident
Sheridan “Sherry” Kerr died Saturday
August 16, 2008 after a long battle
with Alzheimer’s. He was 85. He was
born June 20, 1923.
Sherry was an Air Force Pilot in
both WWII & the Korean War. Over
the years he worked for Johns
Manville, Coast Manufacturing and
Hexcel Corp before starting his own
insulation business in Livermore. He
ran KWS Company for nearly 20
years before retiring in 1988 to pursue
his passion for travel. He and his wife
enjoyed many exotic destinations as
well as camping in their RV. Besides
traveling Sherry loved music, fishing
and loved the large Kerr family gatherings.
He loved to cook & was the life
of the party.
Sherry is survived by his wife of
67 years, Barbara, whom he adored.
He is also survived by sons Michael
and his wife Janis of Clovis, Patrick
and his wife Dianne of Carlsbad, Jeff
and his wife Virginia of Livermore,
daughters Janet Bishop, Nancy
Phillips and her husband Scott all of
Livermore. He is also survived by 16
grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at
St. Michael’s Church, 458 Maple
Street, Livermore Friday, Sept. 5 at
noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to Hope Hospice, 6500 Dublin
Blvd. Dublin, CA 94566. Or
CANHR ( Calif. Advocates for Nursing
Home Reform) 650 Harrison
Street, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA
94107.
Private graveside services will take
place at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
