Elizabeth “Libby” Shutts
Libby Shutts, artist, family
matriarch and zucchini connoisseur,
Passed away peacefully the
morning of January 26, 2009. She
was surrounded by her loving
family.
She was a long-time resident
of Hollister and Palo Alto, where
she was a substitute schoolteacher
for the Palo Alto Unified
School District for many years.
She later worked in the planning
office at Stanford University until
her retirement. The past 6
years she resided in Pleasanton.
Libby was a respected Chinese
Brush painter who loved to share
her passion and talent with everyone
she could, and her cheerful
and polite demeanor ensured
that she was universally loved.
Her sense of humor, even in times
of pain or crisis, was legendary.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Hamilton Shutts,
and survived by three children,
Judson Shutts, Peter Shutts, and
Janet Rowe; and five grandchildren
Scott Rowe, Monica Shutts,
and Shannon, Cameron and Taylor
Shutts.
Services were held January
30, at Christ Episcopal Church
in Los Altos.

Barbara J. Hylton-Bailer
“Little Barbara” passed away
peacefully on January 26, 2009.
She was surrounded by family
and friends. The Pleasanton resident
was born November 1939.
Barbara was preceded in
death by her Aunt Bernice and
Uncle Pat.
She is survived by her daughter
Carey Hylton, son Scott
(Josie) Hylton, her grandchildren
Chelsea Hylton-Ransome, Elijah
and Brianna Hylton, Aldrin
Montana and Devon McMillan,
her best friend Cookie Clark and
by her longtime partner Lupe
Espinoza.
She will truly be missed by
all that knew and loved her.
A memorial service was held
Feb. 2 in Livermore.

John Martin Lignell, Sr.
John Lignell passed on January
26, 2009. He was 71.
He was born February 13,
1937. A native of the Bay Area,
he was raised in Oakland and
lived for 30 years with his family
in Dublin. He was a retired owner
operator and prior to his truck
driving career drove tour buses.
In his retirement he spent much
of his time volunteering at the
Pacific Bus Museum. He
touched all he met with his
friendly spirit, love of humor and
kind heart.
He is survived by his beloved
wife of 46 years, Beverly Lignell.
He was a devoted father to
Debbie and Jay Lignell, a caring
father-in-law to Denise Lignell,
a loving brother to Walt, Bob and
Lars Lignell and a very proud
grandfather of Alyssa, Noah and
Nathan Lignell. He is also survived
by many sisters-in-law,
nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life was
held February 2 Cornerstone
Fellowship.

Rene Marie Margaroni, age
68, born in San Francisco, CA,
on January 19, 1941, peacefully
Passed away at her Pleasanton,
CA residence on Thursday, January
22, 2009.
She is survived by her children
Steve and Jennifer, daughter-
in-law Taren, son-in-law
Michael and her beloved grandchildren
Joseph, Jonathan,
Zachary and Jessica. Her grandchildren
were truly the joy of her
life as well as socializing with
friends and shopping for her
grandchildren. She leaves behind
family and friends that will
miss her endearing charm and
love of people.
She will be laid to rest at Holy
Cross Cemetery
in Daly City, CA
beside her mother and father. Per
her request, no services will be
held.

Dean Mills Davis
Dean Mills Davis, 68, passed
away at home unexpectedly on
Tuesday, January 27, 2009.
He leaves behind his loving
wife of 34 years, Gail, and four
children; Pam Davis Williams,
David Davis and wife Deanna;
Julie Kumpf Williams and husband
Roger; Michael Kumpf and
wife AnMarie; and 8 grandchildren.
He is also survived by his
loving sister Alverda Nerat and
husband Jim; beloved brother
Stan Davis and wife Sylvia; and
many dear nieces, nephews and
cousin Deanna Malliokas. He
was preceded in death by his father,
David R. Davis and mother
Gretchen Von Osterheldt of Wisconsin
and Iowa respectively.
Dean grew up in the San Diego
area where he led an active
youth. He graduated from El
Cajon Valley High School and
attended San Diego State University.
He moved north to Livermore,
building a 27-year career
in retail and managing
Baughman’s Western Outfitter’s
in downtown Livermore. He was
a charter member and past-president
of the Livermore Jaycees
and helped spearhead the
organization’s development.
Dean’s love of family, athletics,
and community were enhanced
though his active participation
in several organizations. He was
a past-president and 30-year
member of the Livermore -
Granada Boosters Organization
and past-president of the
Granada Supporters Parent
Group. Dean cherished his many
friends and extended family. He
will be dearly missed by all.
A memorial service was held
February 2 in Livermore. A reception
followed at the family’s
home.
