Marie Jeanne Burns
Marie Jeanne Burns passed
away peacefully in her sleep at
her home on March 16,2010,
with her beloved cat Peppe
at her side. She was and is
still loved, cared for by several
friends and relatives. “Jeanne”
as her friends knew her by, was
a loving, conscientious, and caring
person. She loved animals,
church, people of all walks of
life, a good happy crowd around
her, and good food; especially
sweets.
Jeanne climbed many mountains
in her life. She was born
in Beziers, France on April 11,
1911. After the death of her
father she and her family moved
to Casablanca, Morocco and
worked in the hotel business.
After the death of her mother at
age 15 she was on her own. She
later sold French imports at a
boutique shop. While she was
living in Casablanca she met
her late husband Edwin Burns
who serving in the United States
Army during WWII and moved
to the United States. Jeanne and
Ed lived in various cities in the
United States and eventually
started up Pleasanton Travel in
Pleasanton, California. Jeanne
knew and spoke five languages
in her lifetime and English was
the last. The other languages
were her native French, Arabic,
Italian, and Spanish.
Some of the memorable highlights
of her life were: having
President Franklin Roosevelt
and Winston Churchill drive by
her in Casablanca, Morocco with
President Franklin Roosevelt
tipping his hat at her, seeing the
Americans parachuting out of
planes over Morocco during the
WWII, arriving in America on
the same ship that Clark Gable
brought his deceased wife home
on, she had so many experiences
to talk about of her life.
Marie Jeanne Burns left us
one day on March 16, 2010 to
spend Easter with her family
that she has not seen in decades,
friends that she knew who had
passed on, and her Lord Jesus
Christ to enjoy peace and serenity
forever. She will be missed
greatly by those who knew her.
