George Smith Duncan
George Smith Duncan passed
peacefully into the arms of the
Lord on September 23, 2008. He
was born on August 20, 1928 in
McGill, NV.
George placed family first. His
favorite pastimes were traveling
with his beloved Marjorie in their
RV, watching sports and playing
the ponies. George played sports
in high school and college; and
was part of the  Louisiana State
Champion football team in 1943/
44. George was a Marine and
served during WWII and took
pride in his country and in participating
in the electoral process.
George loved watching his
grandchildren and great grandchildren
follow in his passion for
sports.
George is preceded in death
by his parents Robert and
Maebelle Duncan, sister Billie
Metros, brother Robert Duncan,
and grandson William (Billy)
Mackey
George is survived by his wife
Marjorie of Livermore, children
Debbie (Mike) McNamara of
Quincy, CA; Beckie (Rich)
McWilliams of Livermore, CA;
Cindie Duncan of Omaha, NE;
Donna (Tom) Stacy of Marietta,
GA., grandchildren Lea, George
(Leah), Margie, Matthew,
Michael (Heather), Dawn, Joseph,
Richie, Alexandra, and great
grandchildren to Mellissa, Madison,
Haylie, Logan, George,
Lillian; and by his sister Ima Lee
Edwards.
A memorial service was held
Sept. 26. Inurnment was at San
Joaquin National Cemetery,
Gustine.

Dunn B. Mangabay
Dunn B. Mangabay died Oct.
4, 2008. He was born Feb. 23,
1952.
He is survived by his wife
Sabina (Elsa) Mangabay, children
Elina, Melinda, Devine,
Don, Dunn, Joseph and Jesus, and
many grandchildren.
Mass will be celebrated at 10
a.m. on Oct. 9 at St. Augustine
Catholic Church, 3999 Bernal
Ave., Pleasanton. Burial will be
at St. Michael's Cemetery in Livermore.

Jack Martin Freeman
Jack Martin Freeman died December
27, 2007 in Livermore. He was 73.
Jack was born Jan. 23, 1934 in
Oakland, CA. He lived in Oakland for
57 years and Livermore for 16 years.
He owned a business in the automotive
industry. He was a member St.
Charles Borromeo Catholic Church,
St. Elizabeth’s Church in Oakland and
past president of The St. Elizabeth
Elementary School’s Parent’s Club,
active member in the California Blue
Grass Association, past member of
the East Bay Aquarium Society and
Fish Judges of America. His hobbies
included woodworking, fishing, photography,
music, gourmet cooking,
community theatre, “A true Renaissance
man” and a great friend
He is survived by his wife of 47
years, Ronelva (Ronni) Freeman, son
Doug Freeman and his wife Chris. a
brother Herb Freeman, a sister Jeannie
Hanson, and grandchildren, Jason,
Taylor, and Ashley. He was preceded
in death by a won, Kevin Freeman.
A funeral memorial was held Jan.
3 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in
Livermore.
Donations in his name are suggested
to St. Elizabeth Elementary or
High School, in Oakland, CA.

Roberta Martha Geer
Roberta Martha Geer died December
21, 2007. She was born Jan. 26,
1919.
The family celebrated her life on
Friday, January 11, 2008, at Ridgeview
Commons in Pleasanton.

Barbara Joan Escover
Barbara Joan Escover passed away
peacefully on Dec 28, 2007 after a long
and courageous battle with cancer.
Barbara was born in Selma, California
on April 28, 1932, to John and
Louise Barthe
Barbara was married to Manual P.
Escover in 1950. They had three Children
Stan (Darlene Mcllean) Rick and
Lori Erickson (Lorne)
Her joy of life was her husband
Manual, her children and grandchildren.
She loved to cook, enjoyed crafting
and traveling. Mom loved great
gatherings of friends and family, she
enjoyed cooking for them and there
was always a kind word for those in
need. Barbara and Manual owned and
operated Livermore Feed Store together
for 20 years. Upon retirement,
Barbara and Manual purchased a vacation
home in Port Orford, Oregon
where she enjoyed the ocean climate,
many friends, visiting guests, and
special friends Royce and Carolyn.
Their home was always open to
their children’s friends whether it was
for food, visiting or in need of a place
to stay. Barbara will be remembered
by all for her kind, caring and affectionate
ways.
She is survived by her husband of
57 years, Manual Escover, sons Stan
Escover (Darlene Mcellen), Rick
Escover, both of Livermore, a daughter,
Lori (Lorne) Erickson of Rimbey,
Alberta, Canada, six grandchildren,
and four great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her mother and
father, John and Louise Barthe and a
brother, John Barthe.
The Family would like to thank the
nursing staff at Valley Hospital in
Livermore and Pleasanton for their
dedication and providing comfort to
Mom.
Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated
January 4 at St. Michael’s
Catholic Church in Livermore. Burial
followed at Mass at St. Michael’s
Catholic Cemetery, Livermore
Donations are asked to a charity of
choice

Ronald Thomas MacConnell
Ronald Thomas MacConnell died
December 28, 2007. He was 56.
Ron touched many lives with his
adventurous spirit, loving heart and
his wisdom. He loved the sea and all
of its wonders and was an avid sailor.
He also loved the game of golf and
riding his Harley. Ron lived in California
for most of his 56 years, he was
born in Woodbury City, New Jersey
November 16, 1951; the son of Robert
and Beatrice MacConnell, both of
Scottish descent.
As general manager of the Hilton
Pleasanton at The Club in Pleasanton
CA, he was afforded many successes
and happy memories with his devoted
staff of whom he was extremely proud.
In the hotel and hospitality business
for most of his adult life, Ron began his
career after graduating from culinary
school as a Certified Executive chef.
He was a member of the American
Culinary Federation a society aimed at
providing mutual assistance and education.
Ron was also on the Board of
Directors, as a founding member, of
the Orange-Empire Chefs Association
in Southern California. When
Ron cooked for you, it was one of his
many ways of saying “I love you.”
He is survived by his wife, Lori
MacConnell, his children Moria Lee,
Sang Lee, Jene’ Shipman, Jeff
Shipman and Aaron Unruh, siblings
Bob MacConnell, Eddie MacConnell,
Sean Wiggins and Matt Phillips, and
grandchildren Lynsey, Phoenix and
Colt; and son-in-law of Linda-Petteruti
Wiggins, Gene Wiggins, and Marcelle
Wiggins. Ron was incredible friend
and confidant to a countless number of
people, he will be missed terribly.
Friends and family took part in a
“celebration of life” service for Ron at
Hilton Pleasanton at The Club on
Friday January 4 in Pleasanton.
