Ben Finizio died Monday, March 26, 2001 in the Lassen Community Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He has lived in Lassen County since 1969 and was the owner/broker of Town and Country/GMAC Real Estate. He was a past president of the Lassen County Board of Realtors, past president of the Susanville Rotary Club, founding director of Sierra Security Bank, now Plumas Bank, and a member of the Elks Club. He is survived by his wife Sally, daughter Julia, stepdaughters Kris Martin and Katie Martin, and grandchildren Autumn and Allana Hopper. In his memory donations may be made to Ben's Bikes at Plumas Bank a fund to support the purchase of bicycles for children in need during the Christmas holidays.
Clara Mae Dallimore, 74, of Spaulding, Eagle Lake, died on March 3, 2001, at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center in Bull Head City Ariz., following a long illness. She was born on Dec. 15, 1926, in Bethesda, Md. She had one older brother, Robert Murray Browne, who was killed in action at Anzio, Italy, during World War II. Her parents were killed in a car accident when she was young. She was fostered twice before attending a convent school as a teen and considered becoming a nun for a time. She eventually left there and worked as a cartometer operator for the IRS. She met her husband, Rick, in 1942 while on vacation with her girlfriend in Norfolk, Va. Rick was in the Navy and after three months they were married. They remained happily married for 58 years. They lived in Washington, D.C., Jacksonville Fla., Brunswick, Ga., Pasadena Calif., Monrovia, Calif., and Duarte Calif., where they raised there three sons, Robert, Richard and Russell. She was employed by several aerospace companies during the early years of the space program. She worked for many years with the Duarte Unified School District at Duarte High School before retiring in 1985, then they moved to Spaulding, Eagle Lake. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard. She was a wonderful homemaker, a loving mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Richard "Pappy" Dallimore, her two sons, Robert, of Alta Coma, Calif., and Russell, of Susanville. She has eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. A funeral mass was held on Saturday, March 31, at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Susanville.
Robert E. Haagensen, 78, of Susanville, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Reno. He was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Helena, Mont., and raised in Butte, Mont. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and married Earlene Finn in 1946. Haagensen was a member of the Susavnille VFW, 40 et 8, Elks; Reno Moose Lodge and a 51-year member of the American Legion Post Reams 182 in Susiun, Calif. He drove a van for the DAV to Reno every Wednesday. He retired from the Department of Corrections on Dec. 31, 1981. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Earlene, daughter, Drinda, son-in-law, Jim, and grandson, Jason, of Canby, Ore.; and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert, in 1971, a brother in 1985 and a sister in 2000. Haagensen will be laid to rest in the VA section of the Rockville Cemetry in Fairfield, Calif., with his son. At his request, there will be no services. Vesta Bernice Porter, 92, died on Thursday April 5, 2001 in a Redding, Calif., hospital. She had been living for the last two years with her son, Vernon Porter, and his wife, Shirley, in Redding. She was a native of Lassen County and had lived in Susanville since her birth on Sept. 27, 1908. She was the daughter of John Prentis and Catherine (Kitty) Holmes both natives of Lassen County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cutler Norman Porter, in 1968 who had worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years. She is survived by her son, Vernon Porter, of Redding, her daughter, Phyllis Hiles, of Susanville, eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She had worked as a clerk in many businesses for more than 30 years, including The Old Golden Rule Market and Mom's Bakery. She was a member of the Susanville United Methodist Church. She loved gardening and animals and all the members of her family and friends. Services were held April 9, in the Susanville United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug McCoy officiating. Interment was in the Janesville cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the United Methodist Church memorial fund will be appreciated.
Sol-Britt Lunden Wragg, 77, died on Feb. 17, 2003, at Lassen Community Hospital. She was born in Oland, Sweden on June 9, 1925 and was a Lassen County resident for the past 56 years, moving here from San Francisco. She also previously lived in New York and Sweden. Wragg was employed as a secretary by the U.S. Forest Service for 30 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1977. Survivors include her daughter, Lill-Britt Lunden "Snerp" Whipple of Susanville; sister, Solvej Hight of Susanville; granddaughter, Kirstin Lunden Newton of Susanville and nephews, Arthur Hight of Kentucky and Bruce Hight of Colorado Springs, Colo. As per Wragg's request, no services will be held.
Rubin Grabinske, 86, died on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Sunbridge Convalescent Hospital. He was bon on March 14, 1916 in Robinson, N.D. and had been a resident of Lassen County for the past seven years, coming from Sacramento. He was a foreman for Southern Pacific Railroad for 35 years. He also served in World War II in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He loved to garden and was a member of the VFW and volunteered at the Methodist Hospital, both in Sacramento. He also enjoyed being a demonstrator for various food products and most of all he loved the time he spent with his family. He is survived by his son, Dennis of Sacramento; daughter, Kathy Mehan of Lake Forest, Calif., three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in Sacramento at the Sacramento Memorial Lawn, 6100 Stockton Blvd. Date and time to be announced. A memorial service was held on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Gospel Tabernacle Church.
Joyce Lee Apodaca, 77, died on Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at Kaiser Hospital in Portland, Ore. She was born on Sept. 11, 1925 in El Paso, Texas. She was employed for 25 years as a manager of Lucky's Supermarket. She was also a former president of the auxiliary at Lassen Community Hospital and was a past president of the United Methodist Church Women's Group in Susanville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Apodaca, in 1990. She is survived by brothers; Earnest Ostic of Las Vegas and Jimmy Ostic of Tularosa, N.M. and daughters, Joan Bacchus of Portland and De De Ilusorio of Vallejo and one grandchild. No services were held.

Wilma Viola Roberts, 81, died at Lassen Community Hospital on Feb. 23, 2003. She was born on Aug. 22, 1921, in Chico and had been a Lassen County resident for 57 years, coming from Chico. She spent many of her summers riding horses and chasing cattle with her family at Swain Meadow. She was a registered nurse and worked for Herlong School District for 18 years. She volunteered her nursing skills for the public as well as family, friends and their pets. She was actively involved in the Eastern Star for many years, serving as Worthy Matron and Deputy Grand Matron. She was also the Royal Matron of the Court of the Amaranth. Wilma was a 4-H leader for 35 years, mother advisor of the Rainbow Girls, a member of the Lassen County Possee-ettes and Grand Marshal of the Lassen County Fair Parade. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Honey Lake Valley Grange. Wilma is survived by her daughters, Laura Roberts of Susanville and Nancy West of Janesville; sister, Mary Gardner of Susanville; brother, James Petterson of Susanville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at 1 p.m., at Walton's Chapel with burial and celebration of life potluck to follow in Milford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wilma Roberts Nursing Scholarship Fund at Golden One Credit Union.
Thelma "Arlene" Clark, 58, died at her home in Janesville on Feb. 21, 2003. Thelma was born in Wasco on Nov. 4, 1944, and had been a resident of Lassen County for the past 25 years, moving from Sacramento. She was a member of the Southern Baptist faith and loved to do Bible study with her family and friends. She loved her cat, Tommy. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts, and was a member of the Sundowners CB Club. She was a Steven King fan and loved to read his novels. Arlene was a tri-kim painting instructor. She collected elephants, loved to play cards, video games, music and television. She is survived by her son, Lester Clark of Susanville and her sister, Mae Grisewood of Janesville. Services will be held at the Southern Baptist Church in Janesville on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, with viewing from 9-11 a.m., and chapel services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Diamond Crest Cemetery
in Susanville.
Richard Raymond Luick, 67, died at his home in Chilcoot on Feb. 17, 2003. Richard was born to Guy Raymond and Lydia Clara Graves Luick on Aug. 10, 1935, in Los Angeles. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a carpenter in the Brisbane area and recently was a truck driver. He enjoyed painting, especially landscapes. He was preceded in death by his parents. Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon Luick of Chilcoot; his stepson, Gary Sensor of Chilcoot; and his brother, Bill of Waynesboro, Pa. Services were held on Feb. 22, 2003. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Charline R. Eian-Norem, a resident of Reno, Nev., died Feb. 18, 2003, at her vacation home in Blairsden, following a prolonged battle with ovarian cancer, with her family by her side. Char was born May 18, 1943, to Nils and Mildred Eian in Fergus Falls, Minn. She was raised and attended school in Ashby, Minn. After graduating high school, she attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. She worked for the telephone company in Minneapolis, Minn., then lived and moved over the subsequent years with her husband to cities including Key West, Fla., Las Vegas and Reno, Nev., Los Angeles, Fresno and Sacramento. She was an accomplished musician and loved classical music. She began her music career in grade school, becoming the church organist while in sixth-grade. She entered Concordia College to pursue a music major, earning positions in the school's band and orchestra as an oboist. She continued her education at CSU Fresno and CSU Sacramento, majoring in piano and child development. She spent 15 years as a piano teacher, was a foster mother for three special-needs boys and spent four years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children. In 1994, she was honored as CASA of the Year, in Reno, Nev. She loved to travel, but her favorite place was the home she acquired in 1996 in Blairsden. She loved golf with her friends, gardening and home decorating. Char is survived by her husband, Daniel Norem; her son, Peter; two grandchildren; and her sisters Carol Horrmann and Laurie Risbrudt. A celebration of her life is tentatively planned for later in the spring. Announcements of the time and place will be made. Darlene Marie Wilson, 66, died Feb. 20, 2003, at her residence in Chilcoot. Darlene was born Jan. 12, 1937, to James Cameron and Lucille Maria Durney Ellis in Ogden, Utah. She had lived in Chilcoot since 1960, coming from Henderson, Nev. She worked for Hallelujah Junction Market, Wiggin's Trading Post and the Post Office in Chilcoot. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Seaward Wilson in 1995. Darlene is survived by her sons, Steve Wilson of Vinton and J.C. Wilson of Sun Valley, Nev.; her daughters, Raelene Wilson of Reno, Nev., and Jackie Brown of Sun Valley, Nev.; her brothers, Mike Durney, and Brad and Bill Ellis, all of Boulder City, Nev.; her sisters, Beverly Parks of Pahrump, Nev., Kathryn White of Las Vegas, Nev., and Barbara Garvin of Henderson, Nev.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a later date.
Emil Edward Dotta, Sr., 91, of Loyalton, died Feb. 21, 2003, at Eastern Plumas District Hospital in Portola. He was born June 11, 1911, to Antone Emil Dotta, Sr., and Edna Hamilton Dotta at the family ranch in Sierra Valley. He was a lifelong resident of the Sierra Valley. Emil was a farmer and rancher, working on the family ranch as well as at the local sawmill for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Mae Nelson Dotta, in 1998. Emil is survived by his sons, Emil E. Jr., (Bing), of Sattley, William Antone of Apple Valley and Thomas Albert of Loyalton; daughter, Elinor E. Reynolds of Cottonwood; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Feb. 24, 2003, at the Loyalton Social Hall. Private family inurnment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery
in Loyalton at a later date.
Armilda "Millie" Mae Osborn-Dalton, 78, of Sparks, Nev., died Feb. 20, 2003, at her home. Armilda was born April 30, 1924, in Calvmet, Okla. Millie worked for many years as a cook and manager at the soda fountain lunch counter at Quincy Drug Store. She enjoyed crocheting and ceramics and cooking. She moved from Quincy to Reno, Nev., 20 years ago. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Chester Osborn and Charles Dalton. She is survived by her son, Marion "Butch" Osborn of Tillamook, Ore. A family wake was held on Feb. 25 in Sparks, Nev. Condolences may be sent to 323 Sawyer Way, Sparks, Nev.
Raymond Carl Leonard, 44, died on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, following an industrial accident at the Collins Pine Company in Chester. Raymond was born in Fullerton on Sept. 18, 1958, to Richard and Awilda Rodriguez Leonard. He graduated from Harbor High School in 1977 in Santa Cruz, and resided there until moving to Chester in 1999. He had been employed for the Collins Pine Company as an equipment operator at their co-generation plant. He had been a longtime member of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Santa Cruz and also of the Lumber and Industrial Workers Union Local 3074 of Chester. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an off-road motorcycle enthusiast. He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed spending time on the ocean on his boat in the Santa Cruz Bay area. Raymond is survived by his daughter, Leah Leonard of Fresno; his parents, Richard and Awilda Leonard of Santa Cruz; brother, Brian Leonard of Santa Cruz; and numerous friends. Following cremation in Quincy, a celebration of his life will take place at a later date at Calvary Episcopal Church in Quincy. Maria Bruna Martinazzo Brunatti, 91, died on Saturday, March 31, 2001, at the Sunbridge Skilled Nursing Center in Susanville. She was born in Castelcucco, Italy, on May 15, 1909. She moved to the United States in 1943 and had been a resident of Lassen County for the past 30 years, prior to that she had been a resident of Dunsmuir for 17 years. She had been a housekeeper for 35 years, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include her longtime friend, Bea Price and family, of Susanville; and niece, Carmela Surian, also of Susanville. Vigil services were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2001. A Christian Burial Mass was held at the church on Thursday, April 5, at 10 a.m. Entombment was held at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery
in Reno, Nev., at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 5. Donations may be made in Maria's memory to the Sacred Heart Pre-school.
