Harold Duane Dickinson, 74, died May 31, 2001, at EPDH in Portola. He was born May 16, 1927, in Laramie, Wyo. Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired to Portola in 1989, after a 33-year career in the beverage management and gaming industry. He spent many years at the Palace Casino in Reno. He retired from the Mint Casino. Harold belonged to DeMolay as a youth. He had been a 47-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of Grizzly Lodge No. 601, Portola. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Delton Dickinson. Harold is survived by his wife, Velda, of Portola; daughter, Lisa Whitfield of Reno, Nev.; mother, Alfrida Moyer Dickinson of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Private family inurnment will take place in Whispering Pines Cemetery

Carolyne Louise Price, 79, died Saturday morning, June 2, 2001, at Enloe Community Hospital, in Chico. She was born April 6, 1922, in Rinsler, Ind., and had been a resident of the Lake Almanor Peninsula since 1962, moving there from Cuppertino. Carolyne was employed as an administrative secretary with CPU for 18 years, working in the Westwood office until its closing. She retired out of the company's Susanville office. She loved to sew and cook for her family. She was a longtime member of the Westwood Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star levels. She was an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting in oils and watercolors, along with partaking in all types of crafts. She and her husband at one time were active square dancing participants. Carolyne is survived by her husband of 63 years, R. "Bob" Price of the Lake Almanor Peninsula; sons, Michael and Kenneth, both of Westwood; daughters, Maureen Price-De La Cruz of Fort Collins, Colo. and Jean Finnerty of Pyramid Lake, Nev.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three grandchildren; one brother; and one sister. A celebration of her life will be held at the graveside in the Chester District Cemetery
followed by Order of Eastern Star committal services Wednesday, June 6, at 11 a.m.
Marian W. Gallagher, 75, died May 23, 2001, at 5:35 p.m., at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento. She was born Dec. 8, 1925, in Denver, Colo. Marian graduated from St. Joseph High School. She worked for the May Company, was a designer of silk screen patterns and was a "car hop" at her uncle's "Barrel." Marian met her husband, Robert J. Gallagher, who was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. She was a dance hostess and singer at the USO. They were married there April 4, 1945. She was president of the Browns School Mother's Club and the PTA; past member of the Rio Oso Garden Club; a member of Lay Cannosians; the first president of the Altar Society of St. Daniel's in Wheatland; a member of the Bear River Pinochle Club; 4 Acres Rummy Tile Club; St. Daniel's Catholic Church, Wheatland; and Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Lake Almanor; and the former 333 Dance Club. With her husband, she traveled to such places as Australia, Portugal, Jamaica, Columbia, Hawaii, Mexico, Ireland, England, Canada and key cities in the United States. Her second home, "Blarney Stone West" at Lake Almanor, was where her love of the mountains, stars, deer, birds, flowers, painting, shopping and the bringing together of family and friends became her greatest joy. She cherished her extensive Madonna and Rosary collection. She is survived by her husband, Robert B. Gallagher; children, Jude of Port Hueneme, Roberta of Loma Rica, Dennis of Rio Oso, Dianne of Modesto, Kelly of Ashburn, Va., Patrick of New York City, N.Y., and Tim of Yuba City; sister, Madeline; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitations were held Monday, May 28. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 29, at St. Boniface Church in Nicolaus. John Abraham Swickard, 93, died at his residence in Napa on Tuesday, May 29, 2001. He had been a resident of Napa for the past 11 years. He was born in San Jose, Calif., on Oct. 17, 1907. He was a fourth-generation rancher in the Santa Clara Valley, where he made his living growing prunes, walnuts and raising cattle. He retired in 1965 when his sons moved the cattle operation to Susanville, Calif. He and his wife Evelyn retired to Pacific Grove, Calif., where they lived for 25 years. In 1991 they moved to Wooden Valley in Napa County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years. Surviving are his sons Jack and Tom; grandsons, Timothy, Todd and Albert Stole. Also nine great-grandchildren. Cremation arrangements were cared for by Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Mary Patricia Miles, 54, died at her residence in Doyle, Calif., on Wednesday, May 23, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Bremerton, Wash., on July 8, 1946, and had been a resident of Lassen County for 12 years. She worked for the Peppermill as a PBX supervisor for seven years. She is survived by her husband Dale Roberts, of Doyle; sister, Gerri Lynn Roe, of San Jose, Calif; four brothers, Truman Roe, of Santa Clara, Calif; Jim Roe, of Denver, Colo; Chuck Roe, of Denver; Bob Roe, of Doyle, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warance and Margaret Roe and sister Kristine. Private services will be held at a later date. Randy Sue Thornton, 53, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at the Long Term Care Unit of Seneca Health Care District, in Chester, Calif. She had been a Plumas County resident for close to 40 years, she has resided in both the Chester/Lake Almanor area and Greenville, Calif. She was born Sept. 19,1947, in Boulder, Colo. She had worked as a hair stylist for various salons in the area. She is survived by sons, James and Slade, both of Chester; brothers, Russell Weston, of Chester and Steve Weston, of Sacramento, Calif; sister, Mary Ann Weston, of Redding, Calif., and four grandchildren. Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quincy a private celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Lorna Jean Galvin, 45, died at her residence on the Lake Almanor Peninsula on Wednesday, May 23, 2001. She was an avid traveler who began residing on the Lake Almanor Peninsula this past year. She was born June 16, 1955, in Walnut Creek, Calif. She was a 1978 graduate of UC-Davis with a degree in renewable natural resources, she was a talented artist who painted with waters and oil. She enjoyed doing stitchery and quilting and had recently taken up pottery. She is survived by husband, Ted, of the Lake Almanor Peninsula; mother, Marjory Galvin, of the Lake Almanor Peninsula; brothers, James, of Emeryville, Calif., George, of Concord, Calif., and John, of Upper Pradish, India; and one niece. Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quincy, a private celebration of her life was held. Gerald Carter, 80, of Susanville died on Monday, May 20, 2002, in a Stockton hospital following a sudden illness. He was a native of Westmoreland, Calif. He has resided in Susanville for the past 34 years and has also lived in Victorville, Oro Grande and Helendale, Calif. Carter was employed by the Victor Valley Union High School District for 25 years and the Lassen Union High School District. He retired after 15 years as a transportation supervisor. He was a graduate of Victor Valley Union High School class of 1939, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Carter served as the first president of the C.S.E.A in Victorville. He enjoyed fishing and taking trips with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Lorraine Fisher in 1990, a brother, Alfred Monroe Carter, and a sister, Lillian Hillwig. He is survived by his wife, Rosalind Carter of Susanville, who he married August 30, 1941. He is also survived by his son, Willis Leroy Carter of Sacramento, daughter, Linda Ann Hayn of Stockton, four sisters; Helen Powell of Kansas, Ella Mae Judd of Kentucky, Lola Christine Gibbs of San Bernardino and Betty Jean King of Victorville, two brothers; John Carter of Hesperia and Bobby Lee Carter of Victorville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at the Diamond Crest Cemetery
in Susanville with Chaplain James F. Fisher, Jr. officiating.
Carol A. Davis, 59, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Lassen Community Hospital. She was born in Marian, Ind. on Dec. 25, 1942, and had been a Lassen County resident for the past six years. Davis drove a taxi cab in Reno for 15 years. Carol loved to fish, camp and spend her time outdoors. She is survived by her daughter, Lorie Goss of Reno, Nev., her mother Melba Beckett of Janesville; one brother, Larry Timmons of Tigerstown, Md., and a sister, Mary Timmons of Vacaville, and two grandchildren Gene Lawrence Ray Davis, 20, and Merissa Ann Ripple, 14. She will be buried alongside her infant son, Gene Wesley Davis, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, at the Mountain View Cemetery
in Reno.
Helyn Teresa Domark, 84, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at the Enloe Community Hospital in Chico, Calif. She was born May 3, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., she was raised in Chicago, moving to the west coast 35 years ago. She had worked as an executive secretary for both Swift and Co. and Ford Motor Co. While a resident of the Chester/Lake Almanor area, she served as a contributing editor to the Chester Progressive for many years. Domark, had been a resident of the Lake Almanor Peninsula for close to 25 years, moving from Anaheim, Calif. following her husband's retirement from Ford Motor Co. She and her husband had recently moved to Chico, Calif. due to health complications. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, she served as president of the Altar Society. Helen was a member of the Chester/Lake Almanor area and a member of the Seneca Health Care Districts Ladies Auxillary and the Lake Almanor Country Club Womens Club. She was a former member of the Aeronutronics Wives Club of the Ford Motor Co. Domark is survived by her husband of 53 years, Kasimir, of Chico, Calif., brother-in-law Zigmund Domark of South Holland, Ill., sisters-in-laws Jennis Hannigan of Mateno, Ill. and Peggy Hannigan of Orland Park, Ill., along with six nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by brothers Jack Hannigan and Lee P. Hannigan and sister Annamae Hannigan. A cremation ceremony was held at the graveside in the Chester District Cemetery

Ruby E. Mahle, 84, died on Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Lassen Community Hospital. She was born on July 21, 1917, and had been a Lassen County Resident for the past five years. She enjoyed reading, gardening and entertaining. Ruby was always willing to share all she had with anyone who came through her doors. She is survived by longtime friend, Mary Jones of Madeline and her two nephews; Allen Egert of Live Oak, and Frank Sword of Bakersfield. Services for Ruby were held on Thursday, May 30 at Walton's Colonial Chapel. Burial took place at Diamond Crest Cemetery
in Johnstonville.
