Margery B. "Maggie" Heald, 87, died July 4, 2002 at Sunbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Quincy. She was born May 21, 1915 in Reno, Nev. "Maggie" was raised in Seneca. She attended college at San Jose State and Stanford University. In 1963 she purchased Maggie's Maple Leaf Tavern and Recreation Vehicle Park in Belden, which she operated until 1997. "Maggie" also served as the Post Master for Belden for many years. She was affectionally known as the "Queen of Yellow Creek" by the residents and visitors of the canyon. She had been a professional photographer and while residing in the central valley was instrumental in starting more than 30 Alcoholics Anonymous chapters. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Cliff and her grandson, Mike Lamson. She is survived by her son, Richard Lamson of Bullhead City, Ariz.; her granddaughters, Kathy Dejanvier of Antioch and Sherry Lamson of Washington state; her grandson, Rick Lamson of Torrance; and one great-grandson. Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quincy a celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 20, 2002 at 3 p.m. at the Belden Resort in Belden. George Lee Bottorff, 71, died on Monday, July 8, 2002, at Shasta Healthcare in Redding, Calif. He was born on Dec. 28, 1930, in Louisville, Ky. He was a machine operator for Sacramento Valley Moulding for 27 years. He is survived by sons, Stephen Bottorff of McArthur, Calif., Kevin Bottorff of Brookings, Ore. and Eric Bottorff of Modesto, Calif.; daughter, April Martin of Redding; sister, Mary Hall of Medford, Ore. and eight grandchildren.
Mary Lois Taylor Clark, 81, died on Friday, July 5, 2002, in Sacramento after complications resulting from a recent stroke. She was born on May 30, 1921, in Susanville to Ralph and Edith Taylor. She had been an Honored Queen of the Job's Daughter Bethel in the early 1940s when she met Roger W. Clark. She accomplished one of her life-long dreams by purchasing her first home last year at the age of 80 and has been living with her daughter, Carol and her family in Woodland, Calif. She is survived by children, Carol Ann Odom of Woodland, Mary Lois Mohlman of Anchorage, Ark. and Laurence G. Clark of Woodland; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Any memories you might have can be mailed to Carol at 439 Colusa Pl., Woodland, Calif., 95695. Shirley J. Richardson, 66, died on Monday, June 24, 2002, at her home in Rogue River, Ore. Richardson was born on March 23, 1936, in Rosebud, S.D. to Omer and Edna Mizner. She married John W. Richardson on January 20, 1955. She was known and loved for her generosity and caring, loving manner. She is survived by her husband, John; children, John Richardson, Bonnie Terrell and Allen Richardson; grandchildren, Matthew Terrell and Justin and Jana Richardson; mother, Edna Mizner; sister, Cynthia Kennedy; extended family, Jinny Richardson, Cathy Richardson, Nora Mosquera and Greg Terrell and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held along the Rogue River on Wednesday, June 26. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Lovejoy Hospice, 939 SE Eighth St., Grants Pass, Ore., 97526.
Lynne Wright, 58, died on Monday, July 8, 2002, in Janesville. She was born in Oakland, Calif., on January 9, 1944, and had been a Lassen County resident for the past eight years, moving here from Fontana, Calif. Wright had been employed as a cashier for numerous retail grocers. She was very active with the Humane Society, and had spent many hours caring for the animals. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends and camping. She is survived by her daughter, Teri-Lynn Bejcek of Janesville; brother, Mark Caldwell of Los Angeles, Calif. and grandchildren Travis Bejcek and Danielle Miller. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Schnackner. Memorial services were held on Sunday, July 14, at the Bejcek residence. The family requests that any donations be made in Lynne's memory to the Lassen County Humane Society.
Edward Stewart Jackson, 77, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Lassen Community Hospital. He was born in Willow Creek Valley on Oct. 9, 1924 and had been a lifetime resident of Lassen County. Before retiring, Jackson had been a millworker for Coin Lumber for 48 years. He was an avid fisherman, and also enjoyed football, baseball and basketball. He is survived by brothers, Andrew Jackson and Wesley Birch of Susanville and granddaughter Sherry of Susanville. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation was held at the Susanville Indian Rancheria Gymnasium on Friday, July 12. Graveside services were held at the Diamond Crest Cemetery
in Johnstonville on Saturday, July 13.
Danny Lee O'Neal, 54, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Lassen Community Hospital. He was born on September 8, 1947 in Orange County, Calif., and had resided in Lassen County for the past three years. Danny had been a self-employed custom automobile painter for 32 years. He is survived by his son, Danny Ray O'Neal of Ontario, Calif.; daughters, Donna Renee O'Neal of El Rancho Cucomunga, Calif. and Venus Marie Plunk of Ontario; brother, Rocky O'Neal of Reno, Nev. and sisters, Sandra Jean Haxton of Porterville, Calif. and Sharon LaVassure of Strathmore, Calif. Services and inurnment will be held at a later date at the Hillcrest Cemetery
in Porterville, Calif. The family requests that any donations please be made in Danny's memory to the Lassen Humane Society.
Dan Farris, 70, died at his home in Graeagle on July 8, 2002. He was born in Little Rock, Ark., Jan. 19, 1930. He graduated from Long Beach State with teaching credentials and from Chico State with a Masters Degree in Psychology. Dan first taught at the Graeagle Mill Pond School when he came to Plumas County 49 years ago. He spent over 30 years with Plumas Unified School District, teaching at Pioneer School, Quincy Elementary and Quincy Jr.-Sr. High School. He was also the counselor at Quincy High, and taught aviation at Quincy High and Feather River College. He served in the U.S. Navy. Dan loved to fly, enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He was a member of Portola Station Baptist Church and taught Adult Sunday School for many years. Survivors include his wife, Anne Marie Farris of Graeagle; his son, Mark of Graeagle; daughters, Susan Cash of Sloat, Sharon Carter of Quincy, and Kim Malone of Thousand Oaks; brothers, Dave of Rocklin and Jim of Quincy; sister, Mary Mathews of San Bernardino, and eight grandchildren. Memorial services were held at Portola Station Baptist Church July 12. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. A memorial scholarship fund is being established at Plumas Bank.
Greg Hatch, 41, of Quincy, died July 14, 2002, in Chico. He was born April 21, 1961, to Ruth and Howard Hatch in Germany. He worked in construction for many years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and racing at the Watsonville Speedway. He is predeceased by his father, Howard Hatch; brother, Dennis Hatch; and sister, Nancy Boggs. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kyle; his son, Shaun; his sister, Sandi Braswell; and mother, Ruth Gardner, all of Quincy; brother, Neil Hatch of Santa Cruz, and two nieces. A memorial was held Saturday, July 20, at Gansner Park, Quincy.
Donald William Still, 67, died at his home in Meadow Valley on July 9, 2002. Donald was born Jan. 31, 1935 in Chester, Pa. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army from 1955-1958 and had been a resident of Plumas County for 20 years, where he prospected for gold. Donald is survived by an aunt in Seattle, Wash. and four nieces and nephews. Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quincy, private inurnment with military honors will take place in the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery

Mary L. Montalbo, 85, died at Lassen Community Hospital on July 11, 2002. She was born in Kansas City, Mo. on March 27, 1917 and had resided in Lassen County for the past year. She had previously lived in Sonora. Mary had been a medical secretary at the Levine Clinic for 25 years, and had also been her church's secretary for seven years. She enjoyed crafts and camping. She is survived by her son, Melvin Montalbo of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Linda Hatfield of Chester and brothers, Melvin McDonald of Reno, Nev. and Bob Jones of Lakeview, Ore. She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church in Chester on Sunday, July 21.
Wayne C. Leon, 79, died at the Brentwood Terrace Nursing Home in Waynesboro, Ga., on July 11, 2002. He was born in Graeagle, Calif., on Dec. 30, 1922 and had been a resident of Waynesboro for the past 21 years. He resided in Lassen County from 1946-1967. He moved to the Auburn area and worked in the lumber industry while helping his wife run several Auburn area motels. While in Susanville, Wayne worked for Lassen Lumber and Box, Fruit Growers Supply and Worth Lumber Products. The last few years spent in Susanville, he and his family were self employed with their own lumber manufacturing plant. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Leon of Waynesboro; daughters, Katherine Cook of Susanville and Patricia DeLap of Farmer City, Ill.; son, Stephen W. Leon of California; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother Bobby Leon of Los Molinas, Calif. and sister Grace Skaggs of Fresno, Calif. Memorial services were held at De Loach Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Ga., on July 13.
Beryl Ione Blankenship, 91, died on July 5, 2002, at Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Hospital. Beryl was born March 17, 1911 in King City. She graduated from King City High School and attended Heald Business College in San Bernadino. She worked for Pacific Bell in Salinas for 20 years and the Sierra Conservation Center for 10 years. She was a resident of Fairfield for two years. Beryl was a member of the order of the Eastern Star Chapter of Janesville, an active member of the Rebekah's in Gonzales and enjoyed square dancing. She is survived by her three daughters, Susan M. Glass of Livermore, Carol J. Closter of Sacramento and Ann Cousineau of Fairfield; her sister, Lois Conklin of Redding; and two grandchildren. There will be a private burial in the King City Cemetery.
Stellalee Colvin, 78, died at her residence on June 30, 2002. She was born in Glendale, Calif. on Feb. 24, 1924, and had been a Janesville resident for the past 18 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was devoted to her faith. Colvin was a member of the Jolly Elders as well as Sew-n-Tell clubs. She enjoyed the outdoors, flowers, reading, country music and genealogy. The main focus in Colvin's life was her family and serving others in whatever capacity she was asked to do or perform. She is survived by her daughters, Larkell Starr of Yuba City, Calif. and Ilene Bahney of Hesperia, Calif.; son, Rodney Colvin of Janesville; brothers, Bob Chapman of Northridge, Calif. and Darrell Chapman of Lake Isabella, Calif. and sister, Betty Jarrett of Norwalk, Calif. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lark and son Jeffery. Services for Colvin were held on Wednesday, July 3 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Standish. Interment followed at the Janesville Cemetery.
