Reba C. Rowe died in Sacramento on Tuesday, March 4, 2003. She was a native of Missouri and devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Pat; her sister, Evelyn Mahan; and her brother, Charles Crumley. Reba is survived by her husband, Bud; her children, Jeff, Dave and Lisa; her brother, Kenneth Crumley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were held on March 7, 2003, at East Lawn Mortuary in Sacramento. Interment will be private. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations made in Reba's memory be to the American Cancer Society North Valley Region Processing Center, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, CA 95815-5000.

Samuel Edward Klein, Sr., 65, died Saturday morning, March 17, 2001, at Plumas District Hospital in Quincy. He was born April 6, 1935, in Monrovia, and had been a 35-year resident of Quincy, moving there from Oxnard. Samuel retired from the California Highway Patrol after 32 years of service, where he was a commercial code enforcement specialist out of the Quincy office. Following his retirement from the California Highway Patrol, Sam opened Four Aces Golf Club Service and Repair, where he was well respected for his custom constructed golf clubs. He was a very active member of the community's fraternal organizations. He had been a member of Plumas Lodge No. 60 F.&A.M. for over 10 years, serving as Master of the Lodge in 1997 and 2000. He was a member of the Sacramento Ben Ali Shrine Club and Feather River Shrine Club. Sam had been a longtime member of the Quincy Elks Lodge, where he served as Exalted Ruler in 1977-1978 and again in 1987-1988. He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed the outdoors through hunting and fishing. He served as a Little League Coach with the Feather River Little League for eight years. Samuel was preceded in death by his son, Sam, Jr., in 1978. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce, of Quincy; children, David Klein of Quincy and Wendy Sweeney of Oroville; brother, Albert Klein of Filmore; sister, Dorothy Rivera of Visalia; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Visitations were held Monday, March 19, at Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Quincy. Following cremation, a celebration of his life will be held Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. at the Quincy Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The family requests any donations in his memory be made to either the Sacramento Shriners Children's Hospital or the Elks Purple Pig Fund to benefit handicapped children, c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 53, Quincy, CA 95971.

Arthur "Andy" Ellsworth Anderson, 80, died March 16, 2001, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev. He was born March 1, 1921, in Casselton, N.D., to Arthur Martin and Elsie Mae Barnes Anderson. He had lived in Portola for the past 28 years, moving there from San Rafael. Arthur served in the U.S. Army for 25 years. He proudly served his country in World War II, the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict, retiring in 1967 as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW3). He graduated from high school in Brancroft, Neb., and attended Feather River College in Quincy. Andy was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 3758 in Portola and American Legion Post No. 329 of Portola. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Anderson; four brothers; and one sister. Andy is survived by his wife, Mary Anderson, of Portola; sons, Terry of San Rafael, Michael of Milpitas, and Joseph of Reno, Nev.; daughters, Sharyn Bradley of Smartsville, and Judy Anderson of Penn Valley; brother, Cliff Andeson of Portola; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Inurnment will take place March 21, at 1 p.m., at Shady Grove Cemetery in Portola, followed by a reception at the Veterans Memorial Hall, Highway 70 in Portola. Donations in his memory may be made to Eastern Plumas Home Health Care, 500 First Ave., Portola, CA 96122.

John Robert Pence, "John R.," "Bob," 87, of Las Cruces, N.M., died Saturday March 10, 2001, at La Posada, Mesilla Valley Hospice. During a Navy career that spanned 16 years, he served as a Chief Warrant Officer and saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during World War ll. The USS Sangamon was one of his assignments, and he remained in touch with some of the crewmembers until his passing. In civilian life, he was a consultant and administrator for several hospitals. He also was responsible for the equipping, staffing and administration of these facilities upon their opening. They were in locales as diverse as Dinuba, Lancaster, Quincy and Portola, California; Lovell, Wyo.; and Kellogg, Idaho. John worked for the California Hospital Association for many years and was awarded their 43rd Honorary Life Membership for his many contributions to district hospitals. He was appointed in 1973, by then-Governor Ronald Reagan, to the Economic Stabilization Program Study Task Force. He was a member of Al Malikah Shrine Temple of Sacramento and past president and secretary of the Feather River Shrine in Quincy. In addition, he belonged to the Camel Herders of Reno, Nev., the Ancient and Honorable Order of E. Clampus Vitus, Las Plumas Del Oro Chapter of Quincy and the Lost Dutchman Chapter of Arizona. John enjoyed many pack trips in the High Sierras as well as family camping trips, hunting, fishing and a lifelong love of golf. He was a gourmet chef, much to the delight of all who knew his talents. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. John is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Paulina "Polly"; daughter, Susan Key of Las Cruces; son, John Robert Pence, Jr. of Farmington, N.M.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held March 14. Graveside services were held Mar. 16. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 199 E. David Henry "Pat" Pattison, 67, died March 12, 2001, at his residence in Angel's Camp. He was born March 26, 1933, in Oakland, and had been a resident of Angel's Camp for the past 31 years. David served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired fire captain for the California Division of Forestry. David was preceded in death by his son, Mike Pattison, in 1979. David is survived by his wife, Merrillee Pattison, of Angel's Camp; daughter, Sherrie Sperry of Angel's Camp; brother, Edwin Pattison, of Chino; mother, Adela Pattison, of Chester; and two grandchildren. At his request, no services were held. Inurnment will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to VNA/Hospice, P.O. Box 4805, Sonora, CA 95370.

Margaret Ileen Perkins Young, 74, died March 13, 2001, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev. She was born Sept. 27, 1926, in Gooding, Idaho, to William E. and Mary Maud Warrington Perkins. Margaret originally moved to Chilcoot in 1932. She attended school in Vinton, Chilcoot and Portola. In 1944, she graduated from Loyalton High School. In 1948, she married Robert Young. His career kept the family traveling until returning to Loyalton in 1966. Margaret was a homemaker.
She was an active member of Little League, Cub Scouts and the Sierra Valley Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Loyalton Community Church and attended Chico State College. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hunter Young, in 1996; sister, Arlene Lauer, in 1971; brother, William C. Perkins, in 1989; and her parents. She is survived by her sons, Robert E. and John A. Young, both of Loyalton; sisters, Betty Dellera of Chilcoot, Barbara Hill of Homer, Alaska, and Shirley Perkins of Eagle, Idaho; four grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. Memorial services were held March 19 at the Vinton Grange. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Harvey Edwin Ramelli, 78, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at his home in Red Bluff. He was born July 14, 1922, in Portola, and had been a resident of Red Bluff for 52 years. He had owned a service station for 40 years. He had also owned a cattle ranch in Portola and continued ranching after moving to Red Bluff. After retirement, he spent more time with his family, enjoyed traveling, fishing at Lake Davis and riding his motorcycle. He was also a square dancer and caller. Harvey was a life member of the Red Bluff Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ramelli, of Red Bluff; daughter, Gloria Brantley of Redding; sons, David Ramelli of Red Bluff, and Jon Ramelli of San Jose; step-sons, Larry and Jerry Enos; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren. A Rosary was recited at Chapel of the Flower March 15. Services were held March 16 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial took place in Oak Hill Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 2550 Sr. Mary Columba Dr., Red Bluff, 96080.

John Randolph Williams, 78, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at SunBridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Quincy. He was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Long Beach. He had been a resident of Quincy for the past 16 years, moving there from Idaho, where he had also resided for 16 years. He moved to Idaho from Chico, where he had been a longtime resident. John served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, where he served aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Calhoun as a motor machinist mate. He enjoyed watching all types of sports and is former High School Golden Glove Feather Weight Boxing Champion. An avid outdoorsman who's outfitting and guiding talents were appreciated by many, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. During the 1960s, he campaigned the Ping 00 "Outlaw" Sprint Car and was instrumental in the construction of the current race track at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. He is a former member of the Valley Racing Association of Chico, Northern Auto Racing Club (NARC) and the Homing Pigeons Association. He had owned and operated Lassen Pavers Inc. of Chico for over 25 years. Upon his retirement from the paving business and his move to Idaho he operated Rocking N Outfitters and Guide Service out of Lowell, Idaho. Following his discharge from the military he also worked as an outfitter for the U.S. Forest Service. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John's family was the joy of his life and he will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth; brother, Roy Williams, Jr., of Chico; and parents, Roy Williamss, Sr., of Willows, and Charlotte Williams, of Chico. John is survived by his daughters, Sue Turner of Quincy, Bev Williams of Lewiston, Idaho, and Charleen Beddall of Chico; son, Monty Williams of Lewiston, Idaho; brother, Joe Williams of Spaulding; sister, Charlotte Smith of Whitmore; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Following cremation, a private family celebration of his life will be held. The family requests any donations in his memory be made to either SunBridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Patients Activity Fund or St. Jude Children's Hospital, c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 53, Quincy, CA 95971.

Georgia Bodman died March 14, 2001, in Sacramento. She was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Port Angeles, Wash., and moved to Crescent Mills with her parents and siblings in the 1920s. Her father, Fred W. Fickardt, was a telegrapher for the railroad and her mother, Martha Melvina Gould, owned and operated Vina's Log in Crescent Mills. Georgia retired in the late 1970s from the Sacramento Valley Moulding Mill. She was married to Sigurd Bodman, an immigrant from Sweden, who passed in 1957. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Gould Fickardt, and John "Jiggs" Fickardt; and sister, Melody Kiley. Georgia is survived by her son, Sig Bodman of Murrysville, Penn.; daughters, Marsha Chronister and Renajohn Nunn; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and nephew, Gould Fickardt, who owns and operates the Way Station in Greenville. No services will be held, at her request, and a private internment will be conducted at a later date.
