Richard D. "Dick" Dimick, age 76, passed away peacefully at his residence on the East Shore of Lake Almanor with his family at his side Wednesday afternoon May 8, 2002. Born May 30, 1925 in Freewater, Ore. He was raised in Walla Walla Wash. and Oregon City, Ore. Dick and his wife moved from Arcata to Greenville in 1954 and shortly thereafter in 1955 they moved to the East Shore of Lake Almanor. Dick served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War 2 in Europe as an aircraft tail gunner and was awarded the Air Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters for his valor in 37 missions over Germany. Dick graduated from Chico State in 1951 earning his degree in Industrial Arts. A member of the teaching profession for thirteen years. He taught woodshop in Arcata and served as an Industrial Arts Instructor for ten years at Greenville High School. Dick was proud of the fact that he had educated some of the top custom builders in Indian Valley and the surrounding areas. In 1964 he left the teaching profession to devote himself full-time to Almanor Construction Co. retiring in 1980. Not one to settle back into retirement Dick went on to pursue his great love of travel and the outdoors as a Big Game Hunter. He amassed a collection of over 50 exotic animal trophies from throughout the world. Two of his trophies are categorized as Boone and Crocket Trophy animals while four others are rated as African Trophy animals. Dick's other passion was that of restoring vintage automobiles especially the "Winged Cadillacs" of the late 50's and early 60's. Self educated in the art of automobile restoration Dick restored over 50 automobiles. Dick was a member of the Great North Valley Cadillac-LaSalle Club of Sacramento, the North Valley Unique Car Club of Chico, a life member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of Safari Club International. He provided the transportation for the Grand Marshall of the Chester Fourth of July Parade for over fifteen years along with transportation at numerous other celebrations, parades and special occasions throughout the north state. Dick took great pride in the fact that his restorations were "drivers" and not just parked for show. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his workmanship in the restoration craft. Dick is survived by his wife of 55 years Jody of the East Shore of Lake Almanor, children Richard G. Dimick of McKinleyville, Kristine Lyn Eiesland of Gaston,Ore.; grandchildren Byron, Michael, Benjamin and Jared along with brothers Marlen Dimick of San Jose and Gale Dimick of Hollister. Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quincy, a celebration of Dick's life will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002 at the Chester Community United Methodist Church, Chester. Mildred Evelyn "Millie" DeHaven-Glines age 90 passed away Wednesday morning May 8, 2002 at the Long Term Care Unit of Seneca Health Care District in Chester. Born April 30, 1912 in Santa Cruz, she was raised in Davis, and moved to Chester, in 1947, Millie was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to raising her family's children and to caring for her spouse. Millie always placed her family first in her life. She is remembered by her family as an excellent cook who enjoyed tending to her yard and garden along with crocheting, Millie is survived by her husband of fifty-two years Albert 0. "Curley" Glines of Chester; children Janice Boitano, of Magalia, Bill DeHaven of Mesa, Ariz., "Biff'" DeHaven of Susanville, Albert E. Glines of Casstown, OH, and Donald Glines of Vallejo; twenty-two grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by daughters Betty McAlister, Mary Bovee and Delia Glines along with two sisters and five brothers. Visitations will be held Monday May 13, 2002 and those who wish may call at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Chester from 10 a.m. to service time, A celebration of Mildred's life will be held 1 p.m. Monday May 13, 2002 at the Fehrman Mortuary Chapel in Chester with interment to follow in the Chester District Cemetery. Merilyn Mary Morrison, died at the age of 74 at her home in Chester on May 9, 2002. She was born November 2, 1927 in Oxnard, and had been a resident of Chester for 20 years. She is survived by her sons, Bob Burkett of Redwood Valley, Ralph Pavoni of Windsor, Nicholas Pavoni of Graton; her brothers, Howard DeArmond of Ventura, and Frank DeArmond of Prescott, Arizona; and her sister Jane Cleland of Huntington Beach. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at the Chester Wesleyan Church with Pastor Glenn Cheney officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Mound Cemetery, in Healdsburg. Memorials can be sent to Chester Volunteer Fire Department in Chester.
Kathryne Anne Norden, age 3 months and 5 days, died May 12, 2002, at Eastern Plumas District Hospital in Portola. Kathryne was born in Truckee on February 7, 2002, to Shawn Gerald Norden and Sandra Faye Perkett. She is survived by her parents, her brothers Kenny Kelly and Mony Waters; sisters Tricia Waters and Kayla Kelly; her grandparents Nils and Helen Norden of Redding, Mary Perkett and Albert D. Forbes of Oroville, and Alan Perkett, Sr. of Lodi; and numerous aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 14, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on May 15, from noon to 6 p.m. A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove Cemetery.
Nancy L. Arnold, 69, of Reno, Nev., died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Life Care Center in Reno. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included Pinochle, traveling and visiting friends and family. She was an avid game player and especially loved Bingo. Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Louis "Dutch" Sonnenberg; husband, Jack Arnold; and daughter, Ellen Cunningham. Survivors include her mother, Ruth Sonnenberg; brothers, Mike and Larry Sonnenberg of Washington; sons, Mike and Steve Richard of Greenville, and Robert of Metamora, Ill.; daughters, Brenda Maldanado of Jacksonville, Fla., Juliann Richard of Greenville, Jerri Thompson of Reno, Nev.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elmer Lee Wakefield, 76, died at the SunBridge Skilled Nursing Facility in Susanville on Tuesday, March 13. He was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and has been a resident of Lassen County for the past 29 years. He was a line supervisor for the Heinz 57 company for 10 years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Rose Rybicki, of Sacramento, Calif., Debbie Graham of Litchfield, Calif., and a granddaughter Rebecca May Wakefield. Private dervices will be held at a later date. Interment will be private at the Diamond Crest Cemetery, Johnstonville, Calif.
Bula B. Ramsey, 83, of Reno, died on May 5, 2003. Ramsey was born to Robert and Bonnie Morris on Feb. 4, 1920, in Elk City, Okla. She worked for many years in the maintenance division of the general supply civil services at the Herlong Army Depot. She is survived by daughter, Colleen Ambler of Sun Valley, Nev.; son, Billy Ramsey of Dansville, Ga.; sister, Bertha Ramsey of Gardena, Calif.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements entrusted to Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary in Sparks.
Lila Lorraine Meadows, 74, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at her home in Paradise. Lila was born in Watsonville on Feb. 25, 1929. She was raised and attended school in the Watsonville area and graduated from Heald's Business College. She was an accountant for the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey for more than 25 years, retiring in 1975. She was a resident of Chester from 1976 until moving to Paradise in 1998. She was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge, the Elk's Wives Club, the Methodist Church and was a "reading buddy" for the Chester Elementary School, as well as the camp host for the PSEA campground in Chester for 14 years. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest "Ernie" Meadows. Lila is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Ramsay of Paradise; her son, Douglas Clarke of Banning; and her brother, Charles Goodale of San Luis Obispo. Private family services were held May 18, 2003. Mark Dennis Connolly, 51, died May 16, 2003, at his home in Hayward. Mark was born May 1, 1952, to Robert and Merle Connolly in Oakland. He moved to Quincy in 1970 and attended Feather River College. He moved back to the Bay Area in 1989 and returned to Quincy in 1999, where he lived until shortly before his death. Mark enjoyed his family, loved baseball, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mark is survived by his wife, Christina of Hayward; sons, Robert Emmett Connolly III and Daniel Richard Lyons, both of Hayward; daughter, Michele Honiker Yarbrough; two granddaughters; his sisters, Jane Connolly of Miami, Fla., and Kathy Seamour of Oakland; brothers Daniel Connolly and David Connoly, both of Moraga; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life was held Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the Christ Community Church in Hayward. Following the celebration of life, a wake was held at the family home in Hayward.
