Jean Richard, 74, of Greenville died Feb. 3, 2003, at a Chico convalescent hospital. Jean was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Oakland to Ruby and Curtis Bundock. She had resided in Greenville for 22 years. She enjoyed gardening and baking.
Jean is survived by her husband, Bill, of Greenville; her three sons, Tom Moore of Alaska, Doug Arnold of Durham and Don Arnold of Chico; her daughter, Suzanne Klein of Dallas, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held.
Carol Ann Cristiansen, 65, died Feb. 2, 2003. Carol was born in San Francisco on Oct. 6, 1937. She lived in Elk for almost 40 years, before moving to Graeagle. She had worked many years at the Plumas Chamber of Commerce and belonged to the VFW Auxillary. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorthy Galletti, and her stepfather, Henry Gallette. Carol is survived by her husband of 46 years, Darrell Leroy Christiansen of Graeagle; her daughters, Diann Scaramella of Santa Rosa and Jann Lovach of Dayton, Ohio; her son, Garry Christiansen of Palm Springs; her brothers, James Ellingson of Plano, Texas and Donald Ellingson of Rocklin; her sister, Gloria Thomas of Willits; and three grandchildren. The family asks that memorials be made to the Tahoe Forest Hospital for Hospice, P.O. Box 759, Truckee, CA 95734, or the American Cancer Society. A celebration of Carol's life will be held at a later date.
Ralph C. Williams died Jan. 31, 2002, in Southern California. Ralph was born in Chicago, Ill. on March 1, 1919. He retired to Hamilton Branch in 1979 from Pasadena, where he had been a professor of math at Pasadena Community College for 20 years. He also held a Ph.D. in higher education. He was influential in founding the Hamilton Branch Community Services District, where he was the first president of the board. He enjoyed golf, music, Dixieland Band and flying his own plane. He was preceded in death by his brother Alfred H. Williams and his parents. Ralph is survived by his wife, June; his son, Cris Williams of Los Alamitos; his daughter, Doris Neal of Westlake Village; and six grandchildren. A celebration of Ralph's life was held on Feb. 8, 2003, at his son's home. The family asks that all donations and contributions in his memory be made to either your local high school or favorite student.
Regina Katherine Pajakowski Reynolds, 85, of Portola died at Eastern Plumas District Hospital on Feb. 3, 2003. Regina was born to Joseph and Martha Wojcik Pajakowski on Nov. 25, 1917, in Detroit, Mich. She attended Wayne University in Michigan, studying journalism. During World War II she served in the U.S. Marine Corps, with the rank of sergeant. She had a varied career, always working as a secretary. She retired from the State of California after 20 years as a legal secretary. In 1994, she moved to Portola. She remained active in military activities, serving as a post commander in the American Legion in Southern California. She also was active in civic volunteer work. Regina is survived by her daughter Cathy Conant of Portola; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A celebration of her life will be held at the Long Term Care of Eastern Plumas District Hospital later in the week. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Louis Leonard Perry died Jan. 31, 2003, in Reno, Nev., where he had resided off and on for many years. Louis was born to Edward and Rose Perry on April 27, 1948, in San Rafael. He worked in the construction industry for many years. He was known to family and friends as "Butch" or "Goose." Cattle ranching was his lifelong love. He was a mentor to many. He was preceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Perry, Jr. Louis is survived by his wife of 21 years, Celeste Bergin of Reno, Nev.; his daughter Ida Prewett of Portola; and his sisters Rosemarie Anders of Reno, Nev., Bernice Antonio of Palisades, Colo., and Barbara Paul of Sebastopol. Burial took place at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery
in Reno, Nev.
Vilas Edwin Bone Jr., born Jan. 26, 1951, died Feb. 2, 2003, at the age of 52. He was known to his friends as "Johnson." He served one tour in Vietnam in 1968, and was an active member of the American Legion and VFW. He was an "Honorary Graybeard" member of the E Clampus Vitas, Las Plumas Del Oro chapter. Vilas was employed as a skidder operator with Clover Logging Co. for many years, and as a bartender for the Plumas Club. He was predeceased by his parents, Vilas Bone Sr., and Lucille Mullen Bone. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Bone of Quincy; son David (Sly) Merino Bone of Quincy; daughters, Leslie Bone of Redding and Brenda Bone of Quincy; sisters and brothers, Robertha Timmons of Greenville, Valeria Bone of Oroville, Sylvia Acevedo of Redding, Sanders (Buck) Bone of Oroville, Sandra Grigsby of Oroville, Lydia Lee of Oroville, Lee J. Bone of Oroville, Teresa Lee of Oroville, Charlie Bone of Oroville, and Cildy Bone; two aunts, Dorothy Miles of Greenville and Pearl George of Hat Creek; uncle Franklin Mullen; and several grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., at the Veterans Hall in Quincy. Vilas will be buried in the family cemetery at the Bone Ranch in Hat Creek on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Margaret Susan Blackman, 51, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 15, 2002, at Plumas District Hospital in Quincy. A native of Sacramento, she lived there until she moved to Quincy in 1991. Blackman was a dedicated homemaker who devoted her time to caring for her family. She gained great pleasure from reading and studying the Bible. She also enjoyed gardening and will be fondly remembered by many for the great meals she prepared. Blackman was preceded in death by her son, Joshua Lovins, in 1987, and brothers, Michael and Jerry Burke. Survivors include her husband, Howard, of Quincy; sons, Anthony DeLong, of Reno, Nev., Rodney DeLong and Philip DeTore, of Sacramento, and Jesse Lovins, of Quincy; daughter, Gina Detore-Cudia, of Quincy; brothers, Patrick Burke, of Loomis, Timothy Burke, of Sacramento, Richard Burke, of Colfax, and Russell "Bud" Burke, of Sacramento; and three grandchildren, with one more on the way. Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quincy, a celebration of Blackman's life was held Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Meadow Valley Community Church. Inurnment followed in the Meadow Valley District Cemetery.
Lois Jean Reese, 72, of Lake Almanor, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, in Ojai, after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 17, 1929, in Huntington Park. She lived in Ojai for 31 years before moving to Lake Almanor. Reese was an account supervisor with Security Bank. She was a member of the Ojai Presbyterian Church, where she served as treasurer. She was an avid bridge player and golfer. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Merle Reese, of Lake Almanor; son, Brian Reese, of Reno, Nev.; daughter, Carol Cawley, of Springfield, Ill.; brothers, Earl Tyler, of Santa Barbara, and Ross Tyler, of Whittier; and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Ojai Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Jeff Holland officiating. Interment followed at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo. Memorial contributions in Reese's name may be made to the American Heart Association.
Florence Eleanor "Babe" Emmons died Jan. 15, 2002, at the Seneca Long Term Care Unit in Chester. She was born Aug. 9, 1912, in Ogden, Utah, to William L. and Florence Tank. She married Harold O. Emmons Aug. 5, 1930. Emmons was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 1999, and brothers, Lester, Lawrence and Albert. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Madsen, of Lake Almanor; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Emmons will be laid to rest next to her husband at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
Tina Louise Parsons, 23, died unexpectedly on Feb. 9, 2003, at Eastern Plumas District Hospital in Portola. Tina was born March 19, 1979, in Quincy and was raised in Portola. She was a 1997 graduate of Portola High School. She graduated from Feather River College in 2002, with degrees in criminal justice and computer science. While attending FRC, she was a clerk in the probation department of Plumas County. Her hobbies included collecting teddy bears and enjoying the outdoors. More than anything, she loved being a mother. Tina is survived by her son, Wyatt Nathaniel Parsons; her parents, Robert and Paula Parsons of Portola; her brothers, Bobby of Portola and Michael of Sheridan, Ark.; her grandmother, Wanda Woodman; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Graveside funeral services were held Feb. 15, 2003, in Whispering Pines Cemetery
in Portola.
Robert E. Stewart, 71, died Feb. 9, 2003, at Plumas District Hospital in Quincy, of cancer. Bob was born to Cora Robbins Stewart on Dec. 24, 1931, in Rockland, Maine. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 24 years. Following his honorable discharge in 1971, he worked as a postal clerk in the Quincy Post Office for 14 years. During his service years, Tech Sergeant Stewart was posted to Midway Island, Alaska, Japan, the Philippine Islands, Italy and made several flights with the Berlin Airlift. Bob adopted the four infant children of his late wife, Margie Bell Stewart, and raised and educated them all over the world during his military service. In 1971, they built a home and retired in Quincy. Despite the years of traveling for the military, he was sitll fond of the world and U.S. travel.He and his wife traveled often. He enjoyed fishing, golf and metal detecting. In his youth he was a bowler. He enjoyed playing harmonica, acoustic guitar and the banjo. Only five weeks before his death, he was participating in a local cribbage tournament. He is preceded in death by his son, Stewart Stewart. Bob is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sherry McKee of Quincy; his daughters Laura Mann of Ketchikan, Alaska, Marva Stewart of Twain, and Nina Stewart of Paradise; stepchildren, Kris Cayocca of Georgia and Kelly Cayocca of France; seven siblings, Marie Nunn of Stockton; Charlene Dodge of Searsmont, Maine; Diane Giles of Massachusetts; Jeri White of Walpole, Mass.; Dennis White of Stockton; Danny White of Vacaville; and Dick White of San Francisco; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. In accord with his wishes, there will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to the Plumas District Hospital Volunteers, general fund at P.O. Box 651, Quincy, CA 95971.
Barbara Jean Patterson, 80, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at Indian Valley Hospital in Greenville. Barbara was born to Charles and Ruby Powers Lockman on April 23, 1922, in Pacheco. She had been a resident of Taylorsville for the past 32 years, moving from Concord. She shared her love of the outdoors with the visitors to the Taylorsville Campground, where she served as the manager/hostess for the past five years. She served as chairperson for the Taylorsville Fourth of July Parade for 20 years. Recently, she had been honored by the Chamber of Commerce with a certificate of merit in recognition of her distinguished service. She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters. Barbara is survived by her children, August J. "Butch" Santos of Taylorsville and Susan L. Harper of Benicia; brothers Billy Winters of Concord, John Winters of Anderson, and Irving Winters of Chico; sisters Patsy Peacock and Pauline Purcell, both of Pleasant Hill; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Following cremation, a memorial gathering will take place from 1-5 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at the Mt. Jura Gem and Mineral Society Building in Taylorsville.
