AMELLA AIMEE WASHOE
Amellia Aimee Washoe, 75, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at the Long Term Care Unit of Indian Valley Health Care District in Greenville,  Calif. She was born in Bishop,  Calif., Nov. 26, 1925. She moved to Indian Valley in 1948 from Bishop. She along with her husband were longtime attendee's of the Indian Mission Full Gospel Pentecostal Church of Greenville. Amelia enjoyed working around her house especially tending to her garden. She liked to crochet, read, travel and dine out. She enjoyed all types of sports and could often be found watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren compete in youth activities. She is survived by her husband James Washoe of 58 years. Children Clyde of Greenville, Claudia A. Salgado of the Soboba Indian Reservation in San Jacinto,  Calif. Grandchildren, Devin Washoe and Wesley Washoe both of the San Francisco Bay Area, Arlene Kabeer currently attending college in West Africa, R.J. Salgado of Riverside,  Calif. Great-grandchildren, Elijah Washoe of the San Francisco Bay Area. She is preceded in death by two brothers Alvin Cane and Archle Shaw. Services were held Monday, Feb. 9, 2001. A celebration of her life was held at the Indian Mission Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Greenville at 11 a.m. followed by interment in the Greenville District Cemetery.

Velma Jeanne Beatty, 72, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at her residence in Chester,  Calif. She moved to Chester 31 years ago from Costa Mesa,  Calif. She was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Burbank,  Calif., where she was raised and attended Pasadena City College. She and her husband owned and operated the Green Pine Cafe in Chester during the '70s. She had also worked for several banks and was a former postal employee. She was an ardent gardener who could often be found tending to the plants and flowers in her garden. A great enjoyment in her life was that of tending to her family. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Neil Beatty, of Chester; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Joni Ver Planck, of Chester; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sister, Luetta, in 1987. Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quincy,  Calif., at her request no services were held. Any donations can be made in her memory to Sierra Hospice c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory P.O. Box 803 Quincy,  Calif., 95947.

Cora Christine Hall, 94, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Paradise Care Center in Chico,  Calif. She was born April 10, 1907, in Chico to George and Mabel Roney. She was raised near Red Bluff on a ranch that is now part of the Dye Creek Ranch. She married Lewis Hall in 1928 in Reno, Nev., and they owned and operated New Method Dry Cleaners in Susanville for 20 years. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, dancing and watching Lawrence Welk. Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Brown of Lodi,  Calif.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and four nephews. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at Pine Creek Cemetery in Chico. Any memorial contributions can be made to the Pine Creek Cemetery Endowment Fund in care of the Bidwell Chapel.

Richard Eugene Busser, 80, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the Lassen Community Hospital in Susanville,  Calif. He was born March 14, 1921, in Alton, Iowa, and had been a resident of Lassen County for 18 years. Busser had been a correctional officer for 18 years with the California Correctional Center in Susanville and had a total of 25 years with the California Department of Corrections before retiring in 1981. Upon retirement, Richmond moved to Reno where he then worked as a security officer for the next 20 years, last working at Harrah's Casino, before recently returning to Susanville. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Busser. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Busser; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert Tweddell, of Susanville; brother, Jim Busser of Lodi,  Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Anderson, of Aurelia, Iowa; Marian McDevitt, of Nebraska; two grandchildren, Richard Tweddell and Lisa Moris; five great-grandchildren, Megan, Katie, Robby, Mitchell and Jesse. Funeral Mass was held Friday, April 20, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Susanville. Interment followed at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Johnstonville,  Calif.

Karen Ann Hahn, 53, died on Monday, April 9, 2001 at the Lassen Community Hospital in Susanville. She was born in Detroit, Mich., on Jan. 29, 1948 and has been a resident of Lassen County for the past four years. She was a Business Manager with Horizon West Inc. for 13 years. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Shirley. She is survived by her husband, Alfred E. Hahn of Susanville, Calif; daughter, Sharon C. Hahn of Newport, Ore; two sons, David E. Hahn and Charles A. Hahn of Susanville, Calif; parents, Charles and Marna Shirley of Salem, Ore; grandchildren, Drew Dinwoodie, Kortney Hahn and Kara Hahn. Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at the United Methodist Church. Donations may be made to the United Methodist Church in Susanville or the American Cancer Society.

John Wesley Dean, 65, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Lassen Community Hospital. He was born in Canton, Mich., on Aug. 19, 1935, and had been a Lassen County resident for the past 23 years, moving here from San Clemente,  Calif. He was a Vietnam veteran with the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring after 20 years of service. He also had been employed as a custodian for the Lassen County Unified School District for 10 years. Surviving are siblings, Eleanor Anderson, of Ypsilanti, Mich., Evelyn Dean of Ypsilanti, Madeline Manning, of Shepherd, Mich., Nelson J. Dean Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and William Dean, of Lathrop,  Calif. Visitation was held at Colonial Mortuary on Friday, April 27. Services were held at the mortuary on Saturday, April 28. Inurnment followed at a later date at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine,  Calif. The family requests that any donations be made in Dean's memory to a favorite charity of choice.

Fern Mae Rushing, 97, died on Monday, April 23, 2001, in Yuba City. She was born Sept. 27, 1903, in Forsythe, Mo. She was a quality controller for the California Prune Association. Survivors include daughter Jean Holsey, of Susanville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Rushing and her son Robert. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Yuba City,  Calif. Services were conducted last Thursday, April 26, in Yuba City by Reverend Doug McCoy, of Susanville United Methodist Church. Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.

Richard Michael Wallace, 22, died on Sunday, April 22, 2001 in Susanville. He was born on July 4, 1978, in Chester,  Calif., and was a life long resident of Lassen County. He was a graduate of Westwood High School in 1997 and went on to attend Butte College in Chico until entering the California Department of Corrections where he was employed as a correctional officer. He was an outdoor enthusiast who's true passion was hunting and fishing. He was also an avid 49er fan and loved spending time with his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor that brought a smile to the faces of everyone around him. Survivors include his parents, Ric and Judy Wallace of Westwood, and mother Sandy Schier, of Susanville; sisters, Rebecca Wallace of  Louisiana, Melissa Wallace, of San Diego, and Pamela Wallace of Susanville; grandparents, Conn and Alma Wallace, of Westwood and Blanche Schier, of Westwood; stepbrothers, Colby Schriver, Miles Schriver, and Zach Schriver, all of Westwood. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Louie Schier. Memorial Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, at the Peoples Church in Westwood. Any memorial contributions can be made in Michael's honor to the Westwood High School Waterfowl Association Scholarship Fund or Ducks Unlimited.

Vivian Davis, 87, of Reedley,  Calif., died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at her home. She was born in Angela, Mont.
She moved from Kingman, Kansas, to California in 1990. During her working career she was an elementary teacher and a Mendocino County social worker. After retiring, she was also an artist and a poet. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Susanville. She had lived in Reedley for the past six months. She is survived by her two daughters, Annita Hayes, of Janesville and Evelyn Zerger, of Reedley; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Memorial services are to be held at a later date in Susanville.
