Irma Bollinger, 72, died on Feb. 2, 2004, in Reno. She was born in Falkville, Ala., on Sept. 22, 1931 and was a Lassen County resident for the past 41 years. She had come from Palo Alto prior to moving to Susanville.
She loved her gardening, yard sales and her greatest devotion was to her husband and family and spending time with them.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Joseph Bollinger.
She is survived by her husband Fred of Susanville; sons, Scott and Richard of Sacramento; brothers, Jess Wallace of Shady Cove, Ore. and Done Wallace of Reno; sister, Dorothy Cournale of Saucolito, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Walton’s Colonial Mortuary. A reception followed at the Elks Lodge.
Colleen Adeline Pullen, 75, died on Feb. 2, 2004 in Susanville. She was born in Sedalia, Mo., on Aug. 2, 1928 and had been a resident of Lassen County for the past 31 years.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she had owned and operated the Gables Village from 1974-1985. She then sold the business to her son, Tim Pullen and partner John D. Eger. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldred in 1992 and son, Lon Pullen in 1979.
She is survived by her sons, Michael and wife Pam, Martin and wife Sandy, Tim and John and wife Debbie; daughters, JoAnne Jennings and husband Bill and Patricia Pullen; brother, Stephen Sullivan; sister Lana Sue Johnson; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held at the Colonial Mortuary Chapel on Feb. 5. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Feb. 6. Interment followed at Diamond Crest Cemetery.
The family requests that any donations be made in her memory to the Northern California Special Olympics.
Milton A. Mallery, 90, died on Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 in Susanville. He was born on March 26, 1913, to Wilson and Rose Mallery at their ranch on Johnstonville Road in Susanville.
He was the grandson of well-known Lassen County pioneers who homesteaded their first Lassen County acres in the 1860s. Passing years made it possible for these same acres to become part of the Mallery Ranch operation on Richmond Road where he and wife Patty raised their family and worked for over 50 years.
He will also be well known and respected for his hard work ethic and many contributions which he has left to the ranching community. He was an active member of the Lassen County Cattleman’s Association where he received recognition as the Cattleman of the Year in 1982. He also held a membership with the state and national Cattleman’s groups, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Posse and the Susanville Elks Lodge which honored him with life membership during his 62 years of memberships.
He was a past president of the Lassen County Farm Bureau, plus a founding director of the Susan River Fire District volunteers. He served eight years on the Johnstonville School Board of Trustees, 25 years as a director of the Lassen Production Credit Association and 27 years as a director of the Federal Land Bank Association.
He was always very proud of his family history and early involvement with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His grandfather, Anton Bantley, was instrumental in establishing the Sacred Heart parish. He was also a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was honored with numerous awards throughout his ranching career due to his timeless contributions to the cattle industry, in particular and agriculture in general. The California Beef Cattle Improvement Association honored him with its "Merit of Excellence" award and was also named Lassen County Farmer of the Year by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
He was a 1932 graduate of Lassen High School.
For many years he worked closely with the University of California, Davis Extension Service and the University of California Veterinary Service Research Department on many research studies and trails which brought about findings in regard to cattle health, nutrition and development which current day producers are still benefiting from.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Patty; sons, Arlan and Wilson of Susanville, Fred of Janesville and Mark of San Francisco; daughters, Paulette Carter of Chico and Rita Reich of Rangely, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Susanville on Monday, Feb. 9 with interment following in Janesville Cemetery.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Susanville Elks Lodge or Knights of Columbus.
Richard Irwin "Rich" Brown, 65 died peacefully at his residence in East Quincy, with his family at his side early Wednesday morning Feb. 4, 2004 following a battle with lung cancer.
Born May 3, 1938 to William and Mildred (Wheeldon) Brown in Brownville, Neb. he left high school to join the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as an aircraft mechanic. He moved to Quincy in 1983 from Hayward. Rich retired from Sierra Pacific Industries where he was a saw filer for 20 years.
Rich was an accomplished woodcraftsman who had developed a reputation for his construction of fine furniture. He enjoyed fishing as well as working on the family and friends’ automobiles. He had always dreamed of restoring a vintage car. Rich had been a longtime member of the Lumber and Industrial Workers Union Local 3074.
Rich is survived by his loving and caring family that include his wife of 27 years Barbara of Quincy; sons and daughter-in-law; Ronald and Erin Welch of Susanville, Ryan Welch of Quincy; daughters and son-in-laws, Laura and Kenneth Fisher of Paradise and Lisa and Troy Woodward of Roseville, Calif.; brother Bill Brown of Little Rock, Ark.; sisters, Myrna Jones of Little Rock, Beverly and her husband Gary Gilley, who Rich considered a brother, of Kallispell, Mont. and six grandchildren.
Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quincy a private family celebration of Rich's life will take place. An opportunity to express your condolences along with signing the memorial guest register is available online at fehrmanmortuary.com.

Bernice Nelda Pyle, 83, died Jan. 25, 2004, at Susanville Nursing and Rehab Center in Susanville.
Bernice was born in Oakland on Jan. 10, 1921, and had resided in Susanville for the past 43 years. She had previously lived in Vacaville.
She had been employed by the California Department of Corrections for 20 years. In 1955 she became one of the first woman employed at the Vacaville Correction Center, working in the personnel office while the facility was still under construction. In 1961, she moved to Susanville and became the first woman to be employed at C.C.C. as the Personnel Supervisor until her retirement in 1974.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, the Center Wheeler's Square Dance Club, the Good Sam RV Club and the Rebeccah's, as well as a member and past president of the Soroptomist Club.
She loved hunting and fishing.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Everett Cambell, Jr.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Louis W. Pyle of Susanville; sons, William Louis Pyle of Maui, Hawaii, Gerald Edlef Pyle of Susanville, Thomas Everett Pyle, D.V.M. of Susanville, and Robert Fred Pyle of Susanville; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Elmire Cemetery
in Vacaville on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at 11 a.m.

Colin Douglas Walker, 61, died on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Washoe Medical Center. He was born on June 23, 1942 in Lakeview, Ore. and was a resident of Lassen County for the past 61 years
He graduated from Lassen High School in 1960, briefly serving in the National Guard.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years; he was a past member of the Elks Club and was a founding member of the Argos car club. A former member of the police reserves, he dearly loved music and being a musician. Susanville and Eagle Lake are places he enjoyed visiting and traveling to.
He was raised by his grandparents Paul and Evelyn Pettey; his mother and father Kay and Virgil Walker and sister Rita, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Louise of Susanville; daughters, Sabrina Walker, Wendy and son-in-law Murdock and one granddaughter, as well as nephews and other family members.
A memorial service was held on Monday, Jan. 26 at the Monticola Club.
Roy Kenneth Neely, 64, died on Jan. 5, 2004, in Lodi, Calif.
He was born Feb. 17, 1939 in Delight, Ark. He moved to Susanville in 1947 when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Lassen High School in 1957. Friends and family knew him as Kene.
While in high school he worked at Millers Market in Susanville. After getting married to Kathleen Strong in 1960 he worked in the logging industry then Shell Oil. In 1972 while working for Telfer Tank Lines he and his family moved to Pacheco, Calif. He continued to work for Western Oil and Spreading, a division of Telfer after moving to Lodi in the late 1980’s.
Neely had three children, Fred Neely of Susanville Calif., Stacy Carr of Calistoga Calif., David Neely who died in 1968. His joy was his five grandchildren. He was also an adventurous traveler. He spent his later years taking road trips on his BMW motorcycle, many times with his son Fred, and keeping in touch with friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Gospel Tabernacle in Susanville at the corner of 4th street and Ash Street.
