GAYNO ROBERT CHASTAIN
Gayno Robert Chastain was born Dec. 12, 1922, to Mae and Dee Chastain in Quinton, Okla. He passed away March 8, 2006, at his home of 50 years in Herlong,  Calif.
He was preceded in death by grandson Steven Fleming.
Gayno is survived by his loving and devoted wife Allie Faye Reid Chastain; one sister, Maybelle Drice, of Spanish Springs, Nev.; his children Lois Chastain, of Reno, Nev., Patricia Eckroat, of Yakima, Wash., Sharon Heisler, of Redding, Gina Eckroat, of Herlong, Michael Chastain, of Doyle, and Donna Stewart, of Coppers Cove,  Texas; his grandchildren Dennis Fleming, of Reno, Nev., Brian Eckroat, of Beaverton, Ore., Jennifer Eckroat, of Herlong, Amy Little, of South Boston, Va., Aaron Heisler, of Santa Barbara,  Calif., Peter Heisler, of Redding, Tianna Chastain Fisher, of Cold Springs, Nev., Stacy Stewart, of Temple,  Texas, Robert Chastain, of Norfolk, Va., and Cortney Stewart, of Coppers Cove; great-grandchildren Joshua and Tasha Fleming, of Reno, Nev., and Savanna and Aubrianna Fisher, of Reno, Nev.
Gayno worked building Shasta Dam until World War II, when he joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Koiner and the USS Republic. He came to Herlong,  Calif., with his wife and children in May 1951. He retired from Sierra Army Depot in 1979. He is loved and missed by his family, neighbors and many friends.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Johnstonville. A celebration of his life will follow at the Doyle Citizens Center 434-685 Doyle Loop, Doyle,  Calif.

CATHERINE GAIL CROZER
Catherine Gail Crozer, 62, died Friday, March 3, 2006, in Atlanta, Ga.
Crozer is survived by her father Robert Richardson, of Marion, N.C.; son Clark G. Crozer II, of Susanville; daughter Catherine G. Crozer, of Redding; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March, 26, 2006, at the Susanville Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3035 Johnstonville Rd. The Crozer family extend the invitation to all who knew her to attend. A second memorial will be held in Marion, N.C., at a later date.

TIMOTHY I. MADDEN
Timothy I. Madden, 57, died Tuesday, March 15, 2006. He was born Dec. 14, 1948, in Woodland,  Calif.
Madden was preceded in death by his father Fred and brother Pat.
Madden is survived by his wife of 28 years, Patti; mother Loretta; son Jeff; daughters Sarah, Brenda and Cheryl; brother Mike; sisters Sue and Maureen; and six grandchildren.

EVELYN "EVIE" STROHMEYER
Evelyn Strohmeyer passed away suddenly, March, 3, 2006. Born Aug. 20, 1952, she was 53 years young. Above all else she was a wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Susanville. She was on elementary school teacher at Shaffer Elementary in Litchfield. Teaching was truly one of the greatest joys in her life. Evely, Evie to family and friends, also enjoyed traveling the country, any holiday; especially Christmas and her cat.
She is survived by her husband George; sons Clint and Luke; daughter-in-law Katie; and five brothers and sisters, by whom she will be dearly missed. Finally, in her own words she would say, "And this too shall pass."
Services will be held in the future, for family and close friends. The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to St. Vincent De Paul's.

MELVA LEE FISK
Melva Lee Fisk, 72, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at a local La Grande care facility. Graveside services were held at the Island City Cemetery Feb 28, 2006. Melva and Arlie Fisk, previously of Susanville for 14 years, owned and operated Fisk Realty.
Melva was born August 31, 1933, in Jetmore, Kan. Survivors include her husband of 52 years Arlie Fisk, three children and their families, Bruce and Christie Eaton of Portland, Ore., Cindy Fisk of La Grande, Ore., and Crystal and Gary Purdy of Susanville,  Calif. Fisk is Also Survived by 7 grandchildren; Rafa Eaton and Delaney Eaton of Portland, Ore., Joel Eaton of Ore., Chalise Fisk of Juneau, Ark., Cody Fisk of La Grande, Ore., Brian Purdy of Susanville, Calif, and Jessica Purdy-Valdovinos of Salinas, Calif; as well as, one Brother and numerous nieces, and nephews and other relatives.
Memorials and or charities may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, 2705 Gekeler Lane La Grande, OR 97850.

DONALD EMERY HARBERT
Donald Emery Harbert was born Sept. 11, 1923. He passed away in Reno, Nev., on Oct. 9, 2006. Donnie served in World War II in the U.S. Naval Air Corps as a PBM pilot. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodcutting and sports. He was a proud descendant of four Big Valley pioneer families.
He leaves behind wife, Nadine Harbert; son, Robin Harbert (Cindy); daughters, Gail Philnrook (Richard), and Terrill  Johnson (Bill), and he was predeceased by son Kyle Harbert (Cathie).
He will be missed by his six adoring grandchildren, Amanda, Krissie, Wyatt, Luena, Lauren, Denice and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery, in Nubieber,  Calif., on Friday, Oct. 13, 2006. A potluck luncheon (salads and desserts) followed the ceremony at the Ladies Club Hall, in Nubieber.
Pall Bearers — Robin Harbert, Wyatt Harbert, Richard Philbrook, Bill Johnson, Randy Hurd and Jimmy Gier.
Honorary Pall Bearers — Gene Bidwell, Ernie Larkey, Sam Gerig, Roger Grigsby, Merlie Hatfield, Mark Hicks, Kyle Benefield, Chris Click, Clarence George, Jack Franck, Greg Bidwell and Michel Josse.
