ELIZABETH WORTH NELSON
Following a four-year courageous and valiant battle, Elizabeth “Betsy” W. Nelson succumbed to the effects of cancer Sunday morning January 16, 2005 at Seneca District Hospital located in Chester, Calif.
Betsy was born August 24, 1950 in Pasadena, Calif. to Walter and Barbara Worth. She was raised and educated in Glendale graduating from Glendale High School as a member of the class of 1968 and went on to attend college in both California and Oregon.
Betsy married the love of her life, Bob Nelson at a ceremony in her parent’s back yard in Glendale. On October 26, 1980, they shortly thereafter relocated to Chester, where Betsy went to work as a local reporter for the Chester Progressive newspaper. She left the paper after six years of dedicated service for employment with the U.S. Postal Service. Betsy served as the postmaster for the Mineral Post Office for four years until health complications required her to leave the post.
Betsy was an extremely talented artesian who was an avid and accomplished quilter. She had a passion for the art that she loved to share. Betsy was a charter member of the Almanor Quilt Guild serving in numerous positions with the organization to include president and most recently treasurer. She will be remembered by many for her talent at teaching the art. She had just recently taken up painting and loved to work in her garden.
Betsy will most notably be remembered for her dedication to and love she shared with her family. She is survived by her loving husband of twenty-four years, Bob of Chester, son, Patrick of Ketchikan, Alaska, mother, Barbara Worth of Santa Clarita, Calif., brothers Donald Worth of Valencia, Calif., and Steven Worth of North Hollywood, Calif., along with the joys of her later life, her grandchildren Daunte Stephen Nelson of Chico, Calif., and Angelina French of New Mexico. Betsy is preceded in death by her father Walter.
A celebration of Betsy’s life was held on January 20 at the Lake Almanor Community Church located on Highway A-13 located at Hamilton Branch, Calif. An opportunity to express your condolences to the family along with signing the memorial guest register is available online at fehrmanmortuary.com.

GEORGE SEBASTIAN CRUSEY
George Sebastian Crusey, Jr., 80 years old, began his walk with the angels on Friday, January 14 at 7:22 a.m., from Susanville, Calif.
Son of George Crusey, Sr., and Mary Welsh-Crusey; George lost his father at a young age and was raised at MooseHeart, Ill., excelling in sports and academia. To this day, George is still a Moose member. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.
George was a veteran of WWII, serving as gunner’s mate in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He survived several kamikaze attacks against his flotilla. Papa was very proud of his service and aware of the impact his contributions to the war effort.
George began his civil service career working with troubled youths in the California Youth Authority. George retired from exemplary California State Service on April 28, 1987, as a Building Manager in Stockton, Calif.
George is survived by his widow, Wanda Crusey, his daughter Mary Crusey, of Shoshone, Idaho; daughter Reann Moretto, of Susanville, Calif.; son Chuck Duncan, of Chico, Calif.; five grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren.
George enjoyed the fellowship of his family, the antics of pets and animals, gardening and horticulture, and puzzles to stimulate his mind.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests that memorials may by made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice.
All who knew him will surely miss him, and be comforted by the fact that Papa knew God resides in our hearts and actions. He was a very good man.
GRACE WALSH KELLEY
Grace Walsh Kelley, of Malden, died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on Jan. 16, 2005 at the age of 88. Grace was born in Schenectady, N.Y. in 1916. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Viola Walsh.
Grace graduated from Simmons College and the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She also received a Masters of Education from Fairfield University in 1972. Grace practiced nursing for 47 years before retiring at the age of seventy. She had six children with her first husband of 34 years. Grace is survived by Dr. Pat Rooney, James Rooney of Maryland, Eileen Callahan, Margaret Wellington, both of Calif., Mary Rooney-Belmonte of Melrose, Mass. She was predeceased by her daughter Sister Mary Grace Rooney of N.J. Grace is survived by 12 grandchildren, two step grandchildren & one great grandchild.
Grace was active in the Girl Scouts for 18 years and also was a den mother for her sons. She was a member and officer of the faculty Wives of John Carroll University and an active volunteer for the American Heart and Lung Associations. Grace was a past president and active member of Simmons College Club. She was active in the Massachusetts General Hospital Alumnae Association from 1938-present. Working with St. Anne’s Church in Cleveland, Ohio, she did development work and planning. Working with the medical director of the Presbyterian Nursing Home in Utica, N.Y., she held meetings in her basement with pharmacists, dieticians, rabbis and ministers to establish Hospice of Utica, N.Y.
Her hobbies included swimming, tennis and square dancing as well as baking, sewing and quilting.
Walter Kelley, a former neighbor and classmate, returned to Schenectady, for his 50th high school reunion on June 8, 1985. Walter and Grace were married on June 29, 1985 and she became Mrs. Grace Kelley. They resided in Yuba City and Clear Creak, Calif. for the next 18 years. Mr. Kelley died last January, and Mrs. Kelley moved to Malden, Mass. to live close to her daughter Mary in September of last year.
A memorial service was held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, Jan. 19. Visiting hours were held prior to the service. Burial will be private. BERNARD ELFORD WURTZINGER
Bernard Elford Wurtzinger died Jan. 1 at Mayer’s Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills, Calif.
He was born in Susanville, Calif. on May 7, 1923. His family moved to St. Louis, Mo., when he was five years old. He lived in St. Louis until he enlisted in the army in 1943. He served in the Pacific Theater until 1946.
When discharged he rejoined his parents who were then living in Chester, Calif. And that is where he met his wife Rena.
He attended Lassen Community College and Chico State College, obtaining a teaching credential in 1952. He taught elementary school in Chester, Greenville, and Quincy until he retired in 1980. During his retirement he had plenty of time to enjoy his favorite pastimes of traveling, fishing, and gardening.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Rena, and daughter, Linda Isbell, both living in Burney, Calif.; sister, Ann Davis of Auburn, Calif.; stepsister, Arlene Speegle-Ware, grandson, Sean Singer, of Sparks, Nev.; and sister-in-laws, Ruby McCollum of Chester and Blanche Frazier of Burney, and fourteen nieces and nephews.
Bernard was a member of the Lassen-Plumas Chapter of the California Retired Teachers Association, the American Legion, Harry Doble Post 664 in Chester, the Masonic Lodge in Greenville and Feather River Shrine in Quincy.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
DEBORAH LEE HUGHES
Deborah Lee Hughes, 48, died Jan. 16 in Herlong, Calif. She was born on Feb. 12, 1956 in Maui, Hawaii.
She is survived by her husband Timothy Hughes; sons Walter of Reno and Timothy of Vacaville; daughter Rachael of Reno; brother Rodney of Naples, Fla.; sister Renee of Herlong; mother Rita of Coos Bay, Ore.; father James of Vacaville; grandmother Mary of Maui, Hawaii.
A memorial service was held Jan. 22 at the Herlong Assembly of God Church.

JOHN THOMAS SELEY
John Thomas Seley, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 16 in San Francisco. He was born on July 22, 1931 in Grass Valley.
He is survived by his wife, Blossom Seley of Janesville, sons Tom of Tonopah, Nev. and Bill and his wife Jayna of Sparks, Nev.; daughter Susan and her husband Steve Seley-Williams of Reno, Nev., and stepsons Fred Reed of Fernley, Nev. and Lonny Reed of Fort Bragg. He is also survived by five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A viewing was held Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Walton’s Chapel and a service was held the following day at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
