JULIA DARLENE URMSON
Julia “Darlene” Urmson passed away in her home on Nov. 20, from ALS, surrounded by her love ones.
Better known to most as Darlene, she was born in St. Louis, Mo., and raised in California. She and her husband, Corky, moved to Lassen County in 1978 where she worked at the Wayside in Standish for 17 years. Later, she went to work for Diamond Mountain Casino as a cage cashier.
Darlene loved to fish and play practical jokes on all family and friends. She had an excellent sense of humor and she always saw the lighter side of life.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Corky Urmson; children, Pete Urmson and wife Laura; Shelley Sargent and husband Glenn Ray, Leonard Urmson and wife Deanna; grandchildren, Dana, Jay Keith, Dene, Cassandra and Jullianne; sister, Marilynn Evens; Jan of Oregon and Pat Gamble, of Eureka,  Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends locally.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Clarence and Lita Walls; brothers Bob and Bill Urmson and her sister, Maryanne Vasquez.
Services were held at the Standish Bible Church on Dec. 1, 2007.

Due to the lack of information, cause and cure, helping to fund research to fight ALS would be one of the greatest honors on Darlene’s behalf.

EDWARD GUSTAV WAGNER
Ed Wagner, 89, died on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, from complication of a neck injury.
He is remembered as a man who knew the concept of hard work and duty to his country.
Ed was born in Kenosha, Wisc. On June 3, 1919 to German/ Russian immigrants Gustav and Tilia Wagner.
At a young age, he and his family moved to Susanville,  Calif. and lived on small farms.
Ed attended local elementary schools, Lassen High School and graduated from Greenville High School in 1936. He remembered all instructons and classmates from schools he attended.
Ed worked wherever he could: Red River Lumber in Westwood,a truck driver, and utility companies.
In May 1945, he married Barbara Burdick of Wheatland and recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Ed is survived by his wife Barbara, son Eric Wagner and wife Jeri, of Susanville; granddaughter Erica Osborn and husband Dustin, of Susanville; and their three sons; daughter Victoria Shunin and Husband Mike, of Yuba City,  Calif..; their son David, wife Jennifer and their three children; sister Edith Summers and brother Harold Wagner, of Standish.

ELLA ESTHER BOOZE
Ella Esther Booze passed away peacefully at Prestige Assisted Living in Chico,  Calif., on Nov. 14, 2007. She was 83 years old and was born in Monroe, Wash., on Aug. 17, 1924 to Julius and Alethia Dolman. She was married to Raymen Booze for 49 years before his passing in 1988. They lived in the Susanville area since 1945. She worked as a grocery retail clerk in Susanville for 30 years and loved her work. She moved from her beloved Susanville home earlier this year to be closer to her family in Chico.
Ella is survived by her son, Jerry Booze, of Chico, her granddaughter, Cassie Booze Brace and great-granddaughter Raella Brace, both of Grants Pass Ore.; granddaughter Anna Booze, of Boulder,  Colo.
She is also survived by her brothers, Alan Dolman, Leonard Dolman and Bud Dolman, all of  Washington and numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Booze, and son Tom Booze.
Private services will be held at a later date. Ella asked that any memorial contributes be made to the Lassen County Humane Society.

DOLORES GASPERONI
Dolores Gasperoni died Nov. 27, 2007.
Dolores Gasperoni was born in Susanville,  Calif., on May 3, 1929, where she lived for 63 years. Retired to Red Bluff,  Calif., in 1992. Moved to Sacramento in 2006 be near her daughter and son. Survived by her husband of 56 years, Keno Gasperoni; son, John Gasperoni; daughter Lisa Gasperoni; son-in-law, Ken Walsh and grandchildren  Taylor and Nathan Bollinger. She loved to explore the eastern California and Nevada desert.
She was an avid golfer and bridge player. She will be missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements by Evergreen Memorial.

FLORENCE STEVENS
Florence Stevens passed away Oct. 29, 2007 in Colusa,  Calif. She was born Sept. 5, 1911 at the family ranch at Long Ridge,  Calif. She was the fourth daughter of the late Churchman and Lulu Wilburn.
She graduated from Fortuna Union High School in 1929. She received her certification and taught first through eighth grades. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Alderpoint. She drove the mail stage in Humbolt and Trinity counties.
She married the late Emmett Stevens in 1935. They had seven children: Joyce Russell, of Redding,  Calif.; Brenda Stevens, of Westwood,  Calif.; Dianne Stevens, of Davis,  Calif.; Rodney Stevens, of Westwood; Linda Stevens, of Westwood; Gregory Stevens (Regina), of Westwood and Jeffrey Stevens, of Westwood.
She is survived by 33 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, sister Marilyn and brother Calvin.
She was preceded in death by her husband Emmett; daughter Brenda; grandson Kevin; sisters Ester, Carrie, Hazel, Merel, Gladys and Helen; brothers Bud and Slim.
A memorial service was held Nov. 17, 2007 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Eureka,  Calif.

AL P. SURIAN
Al P. Surian died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007 in Idaho, doing what he loved best. He was a lifelong resident of Lassen County.
Al graduated from Lassen High School in 1969 and enlisted in the U.S. Marines in February 1970. He served as a corporal in the 7th Engineer Battalion both stateside and in Okinawa, Japan. Al served in the Marines on active duty until 1973 and as a reserve until 1976. After returning home to Susanville, he met his sweetheart Shirley and married her in 1975.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for several local contractors until starting his own business, Larimer-Surian Construction, in 1984, which he successfully ran for the last 23 years. He was also proud of his family-owned business, the T&A Lounge, which has been open for more than 60 years.
Although Al worked hard his whole life, he was known best for his love of the outdoors. He was happiest hunting and fishing. His favorite hunting trip took place last year in New Zealand when he shot a trophy red stag. Anyone who knew Al will remember his honesty, kind heart and laughter.
Al is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shirley; daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Chet  Schmidt, and newly born granddaughter, Lile, all of Arizona; his mother Carmela, of Susanville; brothers, Gino, of Susanville, and Steve, of Cedarville,  Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews and many memorable friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvis Surian.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 26 at Walton's Colonial Mortuary followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church.
Services will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the Sacred Heart Church in Susanville.
Any donations can be made to the American Heart Association in Al's memory.
