Raymond Wilaby

(Oct. 10, 1916 - Feb. 14, 2000)

Raymond Clayton Wilaby, 83, died Monday at home after a short illness.

Mr. Wilaby was born in Mankato, Minn., and had resided in Vallejo for 57 years. He was employed as an electrician for the IBEW Local 302, Contra Costa County, for 35 years, and retired in 1978.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1948 and the church's Mariners Club, Vallejo Elks Lodge, and was a former member of the Moose Lodge No. 468, SIRS 123 and the Elks 559 R.V. Club.

Mr. Wilaby enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Marcella of Vallejo; two sons, Paul (Vickie) of Vacaville and Marc (Pamela) of Woodinville, Wash.; a brother, Oliver of Mankato, Minn.; five grandchildren, Erica Zamensky of Maryland, Heather James of Utah, Rebecca Wilaby of California, Megan and Justin Wilaby, both of  Washington State; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ryan in May 1997.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Skyview Funeral Chapel.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the family, officers and members of Vallejo Elks Lodge and the Rev. Hampton Deck of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Vallejo.

Inurnment will be in Skyview Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Rodney Lee Hicks

(June 8, 1947-June 2, 2000)

Rodney Lee Hicks died June 2, at his Arbuckle, Ca home.

Mr. Hicks was born in San Diego and worked as a mail carrier.

He served in the Air Force and attended school in Napa and Vallejo.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Dixie of Williams, Ca.; daughter Lori Lee (Paul) Fields of Napa; his mother Mildred V. Chism of Arbuckle; a sister Alona (Troy) Vance of Arbuckle; a brother Vernon (Phyllis) Hicks of Lower Lake; grandchildren Alyssa, Allyson, Alayna and Cameron Fields of Napa, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Penny Hicks of Napa.

Private memorial services will be scheduled in the near future. Local arrangements under the direction of McNary-Moore Funeral Service, Colusa, CA.

Hazel Wingfield

(Sept. 15, 1909 - Feb. 5, 2001)

Hazel Violet Wingfield, 91, died Monday at a local hospital following a short illness.

Mrs. Wingfield was born in Decatur, Ill. and was a Vallejo resident for 79 years. She was employed as a stenographer for Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 30 years and retired in 1965. Mrs. Wingfield graduated from Vallejo High in 1927, was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Vallejo, and enjoyed singing, music, tennis, and camping.

Survivors include daughter, Shirley Morton of Vallejo; son, Lee of Vallejo; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Skyview Garden Chapel, Vallejo, with Pastor John Hamm of First Church of Religious Science in Vallejo officiating. Burial in Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Contributions preferred to the American Foundation for the Blind, 111 Pine St., Suite 725, San Francisco, CA 94111.

Ruby McCloud

(Oct. 1, 1919 - April 6, 2001)

Ruby J. McCloud, 81, died Friday at a local hospital following a short illness.

Born in Arkansas, she was a Vallejo resident. She worked for Broadway Hospital as a nurses aide for 15 years before her retirement in 1981. Mrs. McCloud was a member of Victory Church of Deliverance.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis on July 10, 1986 and two daughters, Vanesa in 1986 and Mary in 1998.

Survivors include her daughters, Lula (Foster) Pitts-Hicks, Betty (David) Rowland and Shirley Tisby all of Vallejo; a sister and a brother, Hazel and Felix Wright both of Vallejo; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with quiet hour starting at 7 p.m. at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Colonial Chapels with Pastor Elton Stevens of Victory Church of Deliverance officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, Vallejo.

Ruth Goos

(July 10, 1921 - June 7, 2001)

Ruth Mary  Taylor Goos, 79, died Thursday.

She was born in Plummer, Idaho and graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane in 1940. She lived in the Spokane area until 1964 when she and her family moved to Vallejo. Mrs. Goos worked in daycare and then as a teacher's aide for local schools; she retired in 1980. She was an active member in the Church of the Nazarene, and in the mid 80s, she and her husband worked in Tecate, Mexico helping to establish a Nazarene mission there. In 1988 she went on a lay-mission trip to Swaziland, Africa with members from the church and some family members. Mrs. Goos was involved with the Vallejo Gem and Mineral Society.

She was preceded in death by parents, Arthur and May (nee Johnson) Taylor; husband, Herman Harold; sons, David and Robert; daughter, Joyce; sister, Lucy Taylor; and grandchild, Lisa Bullock.

Survivors include sons, Gordon (Daniele) of Richland, Wash., John (Cher) of Santa Clara, and Kenneth (Janice) of Vallejo; daughters, Ruth Anne (Bill) Halligan of Vallejo and Linda (Bill) Grim of Kingwood,  Texas; sister, Fanny Scott of Philomath, Oreg.; a daughter-in-law; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial, 2 p.m. Sunday at Vallejo First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Don Renschler officiating. Inurnment at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Contributions preferred to any of the following: First Church of the Nazarene for missionary work; Parkinson's Disease Association; American Cancer Society; or Arthritis Foundation.

Warren Evans

Feb. 26, 1936 -- Sept. 25, 2002

Warren F. Evans, 66, died Sept. 25 at Sutter Solano Medical Center-Vallejo, after a battle with cancer.

Mr. Evans was born in the Bronx, NY, and was a Vallejo resident.

He was a welder for over 20 years before retiring in 1997.

Mr. Evans had a special interest in collecting all kinds of tools.

He is survived by his daughter, Rochelle Paul of Livermore, sons, Roger of Sacramento, Marc and Brian of Vallejo, brother, Irwin of Colorado and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 30, at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home in Vallejo, with the Rev. Lee Ernest officiating. Visitation will be held the day of the service. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Colma.
