Joan Massing

(Jan. 30, 1930 -June 9, 2001)

Joan Ann Massing, 71, died Saturday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Vallejo.

Mrs. Massing was born in Philadelphia and was a Suisun resident for 30 years. She worked for Gimbles as a credit manager and was a member of the Legion of Mary.

Survivors include husband, Paul Sr. of Suisun; mother, Anna Pallante of Philadelphia; son, Paul Jr. of Dixon; daughter, Melissa Moore of Dixon; sisters, Stacey Foster and Carol Montemurro of San Diego and Mary Ann Matthews of Chicago; and grandchildren, Heather Manson of Elk Grove and Katie and Nick Moore of Dixon.

Visitation, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with vigil service, 7 p.m., both Wednesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 West  Texas St., Fairfield. Mass of Christian burial, 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Fairfield, with Father Michael Downey of the church officiating. Disposition in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Lacarldean Lewis-West

Oct. 12, 1943 -- Sept. 25, 2002

Lacarldean Lewis-West, 58, died Sept. 25 after a long illness.

Mrs. Lewis-West, also known as "Kittie" was born in Savannah, Ga. and was known to be a "Southern Belle." She was a Vallejo resident.

She worked at Coldwell Banker Solano Pacific for 18 years. A member of SAOR, she was a top producing realtor throughout her career.

She enjoyed hosting parties for friends and family; Christmas was her special holiday. Although she enjoyed hosting parties, her favorite thing to do was spend Friday's with her grandson Steven.

Survivors include her husband, Michael West of Vallejo, her daughter, Tina Lewis, stepdaughters, Kimberly and Kristina West of Vallejo, sons, Steven and Ray Lewis of San Diego and Sacramento, parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Sevigny, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil and Leopauldine Sevigny and grandchildren, Michael Shank and Steven Lewis.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Oct. 7 at Church on the Hill in Vallejo, with Michael Brown officiating. There will be an inurnment.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements made by Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Maxine Rodrigues

March 7, 1940 -- Feb. 11, 2003

Maxine Doren Rodrigues, 62, died Feb. 11 at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center - San Francisco after a short illness.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, she was a San Francisco resident for 30 years.

Mrs. Rodrigues was a dietician/supervisor for Vancor in San Francisco for 26 years before retiring in 1998.

She was an avid 49ers fan.

Survivors include her companion/ex-husband, Antone Nobriga, Jr. of San Francisco; stepdaughter, Joanne Kaaloa of Hilo, Hawaii; parents, Emily Torres of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Confer of San Francisco; sisters, Ethel Basque of Pearl City, Hawaii; Janice Lacewell of Phoenix, Ariz.; and half sister, Geraldine of Hawaii; brothers, James of Honolulu, Hawaii; Gerald of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; Frank Torres of Mililani, Hawaii; half brother, Don of Hawaii; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

A memorial Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 15 at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Vallejo. Private inurnment.

Theodore Romer Jr.

(Aug. 23, 1951 - Feb. 1. 2001)

Theodore "Ted" G. Romer Jr., 49, of Vallejo, died Thursday, Feb. 1, following a sudden illness.

A native of Sacramento, Mr. Romer lived on his sailboat in Vallejo, which was docked at the Vallejo Marina.

Survivors include sister, Diana (Everett) Lynn Romo of Sacramento; and brother, Bruce E. of Sacramento.

Memorial service will be held on his sailboat at a later date. Ashes will be scattered at sea. Arrangements by Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo.

Contributions preferred to local Animal Humane Society.

Sylvia Bertellotti

(June 27, 1952 -June 6, 2001)

Sylvia J. Bertellotti, 48, of Benicia, died Wednesday at her home after a brief illness.

Mrs. Bertellotti was born in Oakland and was a lifelong Benicia resident. For the last eight years she worked as a sales manager at Benicia Bay Company. She enjoyed walking the streets of Benicia, gardening, going on motorcycle trips with her husband, and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include her husband, Denny of Benicia; daughter, Christina (Dave) Moore of Benicia; mother, Cecelia McGuirk of Benicia; brothers, Gordon McGuirk of Vista, Ernest McGuirk of Noble, Okla., twin brother Gary McGuirk of Westminster,  Colo., Brian McGuirk of Yuba City, and Edmund McGuirk of Benicia; half-sister, Patricia Leipard of Colombia, Mo.; and grandchildren, Christopher James and Emma Jean Moore.

Memorial, 2 p.m. Monday at Community Congregational Church with Pastor Roger Straw officiating. Private inurnment. Arrangements by Passalacqua Funeral Chapel, Benicia.

Contributions preferred in her memory to Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco, cancer research for children, 1640 Scott St., San Francisco, CA 94115.

Urselena Edmunds

April 23, 1946 -- Sept. 20, 2002

Urselena Danielle Edmunds, 56, died unexpectedly Friday.

Born in Vallejo, she had been a Foster City resident since 1971.

She attended Vallejo schools and graduated with honors from Vallejo Senior High School. She also attended California State University at Sacramento.

Mrs. Edmunds worked as a process engineering manager for the AT&T Corporation for 32 years, retiring in 1998. She served as a mentor for the Junior Achievement, and was active in her community and local government.

Mrs. Edmunds attended Rehoboth Church of God in Christ during her early years. She was active in the choir, attended Sunday school, and participated in the Youth Department. She later attended Glad Tidings Church of God in Christ where she was a member until her time of death.

Survivors include her son, Douglas of San Mateo; daughter, Pamela O'Neal of Fremont; parents, Daniel and Bernice Thomas of Vallejo; sisters, Rosemary (Leonard) Ruffin of Tacoma, Wash.; Betty Thomas and Barbara McCollough both of Vallejo; Joyce (Craig) Cornelius of San Diego; Jewell (John)  Johnson of Fremont; Diana Thomas of Richmond; brothers, Daniel Thomas, Jr. of Vallejo; John (Joann) Thomas of Antioch; Phillip (Maria) Thomas, Sr. of Fairfield; Elliott and Ellis (Yvette) Thomas, Sr. both of Vallejo; a sister-in-law, three aunts, one uncle and a host of other relatives.

A homegoing celebration will be held, 11 a.m. Sept. 27 at the GladTidings COGIC, 27689 Tyrrell Ave. in Hayward. Bishop J.W. Macklin will be officiating. Internment will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Arrangements made by  Jones Mortuary in East Palo Alto.
