Violet Brandhorst

Dec. 5, 1912 -- Nov. 15, 2002

Violet Elvera Brandhorst, 89, died in Fairfield on Nov. 15 after a long illness.

Mrs. Brandhorst was born in Minneapolis, Minn. and was a Vacaville resident.

Mrs. Brandhorst worked as a social worker in the Minneapolis school district, retiring in 1976.

In her '70s and '80s Mrs. Brandhorst enjoyed swimming, gourmet cooking, tap dancing, line dancing and Thai Chi.

She was active in both local and state politics. She was a member of the Vacaville Museum Guild and Leisure Town, residing in Leisure Town for 20 years.

Mrs. Brandhorst was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard; parents, Erick and Freda Franzeen; son, Robert; and sisters, Evelyn Malmquist and Gladys Dear.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Dec. 5 at the Community Presbyterian Church, 425 Hemlock St., Vacaville. Inurnment will be at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to either Community Presbyterian Church or Unity Church of the Valley, 350 N. Orchard Ave., Vacaville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Vaca Hills Chapel of Vacaville.

James Spirlock

Jan. 1, 1923 -- Feb. 12, 2003

James M. Spirlock, 80, died on Feb. 12 in a Concord hospital of natural causes.

Mr. Spirlock was born in  Oklahoma and was a Rodeo resident.

He worked at U.S. Navel Shipyard in Mare Island. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Spirlock is survived by his wife, Minnie; daughter, Patricia Swinford of Chester; son, Ronald; and two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Per Mr. Spirlock's request no services will be held. There will be an inurnment.

Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Kaiser Foundation Hospital Hospice Home Care Department, 975 Sereno Drive, Vallejo,  Calif. 94589-2485 or the charity of the donor's choice.

Michael Reshatoff

June 2, 1938 -- May 26, 2003

Michael Robert Reshatoff, 64, passed away Monday at a local hospital.

Mr. Reshatoff was born in San Francisco and was a resident of Vallejo for 38 years.

Mr. Reshatoff worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as an engineering technician, retiring in 1992.

He enjoyed building car engines and working on cars. He also enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Reshatoff was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie; his father Michael; and his brother, Kent.

Mr. Reshatoff is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna of Vallejo; son, Michael (Julie) of San Diego; granddaughters, Katya and Isabella; sister, Lisa (Jim) Haas of Palatine, Ill.; and stepmother, Grace of Palatine, Ill.

There will be no services as per the wishes of Mr. Reshatoff. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society.

Raymond Pitchford Sr.

(Dec. 14, 1940 - April 3, 2001)

Raymond Pitchford Sr., 60, of Vallejo, died Tuesday, April 3, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center following a long illness.

Mr. Pitchford, commonly known as "Pip," was born in Mississippi. He was employed with the Vallejo Fire Department for 18 years and was a retired Vallejo Fire Captain and auto mechanic. Mr. Pitchford was a member of Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Lydia of Vallejo; daughter, Dannette Peterson of San Diego; sons, Darrell of Richmond, Douglas of Oakland, and Raymond Jr. of Vallejo; parent, Magnolia of Vallejo; sister, Noila Smith of Vallejo; brother, Hosie of San Francisco; and three grandchildren.

Visitation was held Monday at Manigault Mortuary, Vallejo. Service at 1 p.m. today at Church of Christ, with Pastor Alvin Armstrong officiating. Burial in Sunrise Cemetery.

Raul Marquez

Dec. 9, 1945 -- March 31, 2002

Raul F. Marquez, 56, died Sunday at Queen of the Valley Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Tulare, he was a former student of Vallejo High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Catarino and Simona, and his sister, Dora.

Survivors include his brothers, Joe and Edward of Vallejo.

Mr. Marquez will be buried in Tulare.

Timothy Riley

May 20, 1947 -- June 2, 2002

Timothy Michael Riley, 55, died June 2 at home from apparent complications from diabetes, a disease he contracted when he was 5.

Mr. Riley was a lifelong Vallejoan, who dedicated the last 13 years to helping people with substance abuse problems.

He attended St. Vincent's grammar and high schools, and graduated from Vallejo High School. He attended the University of Portland in Oregon, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in finance. He also was on the boxing team and in the Upsilon Omega Pi Fraternity.

Mr. Riley was employed as a teacher in the Solano County school system and as an electrician on Mare Island Naval Shipyard. He left the shipyard as it began to shut down, and worked for several oil refineries in Hercules, Martinez, Anacortes,  Washington and elsewhere.

He was an avid walker and bicyclist, and enjoyed gardening and carpentry projects at his home.

Mr. Riley is survived by his mother, Marjorie, widow of former Times-Herald executive director and congressional district representative, Wyman Riley; brothers and sisters, Margaret Finley of Oregon City, Ore.; Ellen McClure of Newburg, Ore.; Brendan of Genoa, Nev.; Michael of Oakland; Sheila of San Francisco; Megan McGilchrist of London, England; 20 nieces and nephews and companion Lee Granger.

Visitation was held 1 to 9 p.m., June 5 at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m., June 6 at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Vallejo.

Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1900 Powell St., Emeryville, Ca. 94608; Alcoholics Anonymous, 432 Virginia St., Vallejo, Ca. 94590 or to St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 925 Sacramento St., Vallejo, Ca. 94590.
