Doris Wallin

Oct. 29, 1921 -- May 26, 2003

Doris M. Wallin, 81, died Monday at Sutter Solano Medical Center in Vallejo after a brief illness.

Born in Sheffield, Iowa, she was a Vallejo resident for 60 years.

Mrs. Wallin moved to California in 1943 and worked at Mare Island in the decommissioning office for about five years. She met and married Paul Wallin in 1948 and became a homemaker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vallejo. She enjoyed Bible study and singing in the church choir. She was also a member of "Music Makers" and performed at local rest homes

Mrs. Wallin is preceded in death by her husband, Paul and son, Charles.

Survivors include her daughter, Paula (Russ) Hubbard of Poulsbo, Wash.; son, William (Peggy) of Fairfield; brothers, Arthur Stover of Mason City, Iowa and Walter Stover of Hansell, Iowa; and grandchildren, Julie and Jaime Hubbard of Poulsbo, Wash.

A visitation is planned from 3 to 8 p.m. May 30 at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, Vallejo. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. May 31 at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, Vallejo.

Leola Sequeira

(Aug. 20, 1925 - April 12, 2001)

Leola Iness Sequeira, 75, died Thursday in her home following a long illness.

Mrs. Sequeira was born in Mulhall, Payne County, Okla., and lived in Fairfield for 31 years, and Vacaville for the past 33 years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her garden, cooking for her family, sewing, crocheting, and being a San Francisco 49ers fan. She worked at various local restaurants in Fairfield, including Loren's Fountain and the Fruit Bowl as a waitress and cook. She attended Armijo High School, was a member of the Armijo High School Alumni Association, American Legion Auxiliary Suisun Post 182, Pocahontas Club in Suisun and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville.

She was preceded in death by parents, E. Frank and Cora Wagoner; brothers, Jesse, Fred, Roy, and Robert Wagoner; and sisters, Viola Willman and Alta "Dutchie" Ryan.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Lloyd of Vacaville; daughters, Janet Mauldin of Vacaville, Joyce Fondersmith and Gale (Roger) Bubak, both of Fairfield, and Diane (Steve) Kerr of Woodland; son, Don (Michelle) of Vacaville; sister, Nadean Nation of Perry, Okla.; brother, Arthur "Cappy" Wagoner of Los Lunas, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 West  Texas St., Fairfield. Vigil service, 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker. Mass of Christian burial, 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1050 N.  Texas St., Fairfield, with Father William Feeser officiating. Burial in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, 1707 Union Ave., Fairfield.

Mary Ewing

(April 22, 1922 -May 30, 2001)

Mary Margaret Ewing, 79, died Wednesday at home.

Mrs. Ewing was born in Waterbury, Conn., and was a Vallejo resident for 57 years. She was a member of St. Basil's Catholic Church and enjoyed participating in the community, attending the theater, reading, and baseball.

Survivors include daughters, Mary E. of Vallejo, and Kay A. and Teresa L. of San Francisco; sons, John J. of Vallejo, Mark M. (Debbie) of Benicia, Ted of Berkeley, and Steven A. of Fayetteville, Ark.; sisters, Peggy Weiss of Napa and Carol Larimore of Pleasant Hill; and grandchildren, Teresa A., Dominique Dawson, Haley, and Chad.

She was preceded in death by husband, John on Nov. 29, 1996.

Visitation, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with vigil service at 7:30 p.m., both Sunday at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. Mass of Christian burial, 10 a.m. Monday at St. Basil's Catholic Church. Burial in All Souls Catholic Cemetery.

Contributions preferred in her memory to Maryknoll Sisters, P.O. Box 311, Maryknoll, N.Y. 10545-0311 and Kaiser Hospice Department, 975 Sereno Dr., Vallejo CA 94589.

Willie Powell

(March 10, 1938 -- Feb. 10, 2002)

Willie "Bill" Powell Sr., 63, died Sunday at home of natural causes.

He was born in Jackson, N.C., and was Mountainview resident.

Mr. Powell served in the U.S. Air Force 23 years before retiring in 1979, afterwards he worked for Lockheed-Martin Western Development Laboratories for 20 years, retiring in 1999.

Mr. Powell was an avid 49ers fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lilly Powell.

Survivors include his daughters, Phyllis Holmes of Vallejo; Linda of Sacramento; and daughter-in-law, Gayle of Sunnyvale; sons, Willie Jr. of Sacramento; Reginald of Sunnyvale; son-in-law, Aldo Holmes of Vallejo; sisters, Lucinda Gray and Mary Knight, both of Baltimore; brothers, Joseph, Herman, Sherman and George, all of Baltimore and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m., today at  Jones Mortuary, 660 Donohoe St., East Palo Alto. A visitation will also be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday at Cooley & Riolo Mortuary, Inc. in Vallejo. A funeral officiated by Eld. Norwood Reason, will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday at Cooley & Riolo Mortuary. Burial at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Sterling Stewart

Nov. 14, 1941 -- March 30, 2002

Sterling Stewart Jr., 60, died Saturday in a local hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Hamburg, Ark., he was a Vallejo resident. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Stewart retired from the Alameda Contra Costa Transit District, after 33 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy of Vallejo; mother, Dessie McGhee of Berkeley; son, Anthony of Vallejo; daughters, Fayette Lomax of Rodeo; Rana of Vallejo; stepdaughter, Gina Rideaux of Richmond; granddaughters, Milea, Monique, Akoshiana, Auntionae and Stefani, and a host of other relatives.

A quiet hour and rosary will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Rose Manor Funeral Home, 3331 Mac Donald Ave., Richmond. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday at St. Basil's Catholic Church, Vallejo. A graveside service follows at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, 2560 Church Lane, San Pablo.

Maria Carmen Diaz

July 16, 1967 -- Sept. 21, 2002

Maria Carmen Diaz, 35, died Sept. 21 at Northbay Medical Center in Fairfield after a short illness.

Born in Jalostotitlan, Jalisco, Mexico, she was a Vallejo resident for 34 years.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church.

She loved to cook and enjoyed being with family, especially the children.

Survivors include her sons, William and Christopher Hall, both of Vallejo; parents, Santos and Agustina of Vallejo; sisters, Maria Campos of Vallejo and Tina of Suisun; brothers, Candy, Ernesto, Roberto and Timothy, all of Vallejo; Simon, Baudelio and Ireno, all of Vacaville; and Juan of Arizona.

Visitation held 1 to 9 p.m. Sept. 25, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 26 at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. A vigil will be held, 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at Colonial Chapels. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m., Sept. 27 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, Vallejo. Burial in All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo.
