Ralph Johnson

May 1, 1907 -- April 1, 2003

Ralph Eugene Johnson, 95, died Tuesday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Vallejo after a long illness.

He was born in Escalante Negros, Philippines, and was a Vallejo resident.

He worked at Matson Pier 30 for 30 years retiring in 1972. He was also a World War II veteran.

Mr.  Johnson was a boxer from 1926 to 1931 for the Pacific Athletic Association. He was an avid San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan.

Survivors include his wife, Aurora; daughters, Dessie Torres, Angie Maerina and Elleriza Torres; daughters-in-law, Medy, Venus, Gabriel, Nancy and Christina; sons, Arnel Torres, Eller Torres II, Perry and Don Torres; sons-in-law, Larry, Rom Sr. and Francisco; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. April 4 at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, Vallejo. Visitation will be held again from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a funeral service at 2 p.m. April 5 at the mortuary. Private inurnment.

Marjorie Moran

(March 2, 1922 - March 26, 2001)

Marjorie I. Moran, 79, of Davis, died Monday after a 17-year battle with colon cancer.

Mrs. Moran was born to George and Gladys in Napa. She attended Vallejo High School, and remained in Vallejo until 1949, when she moved to Placerville, and then Marysville until 1956. Employment with the state took her to Fresno, and in 1959, she left for Berkeley, where she worked in real estate. In 1970 Mrs. Moran moved to Davis, where she was employed at UC Davis for 10 years as a secretary in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. She was active with the Davis Senior Center as a secretary and instructor of ceramics, served as a member of the Davis Senior Center Board of Directors, was past president of the Genealogy Society of Davis, and in 2000, received the "Senior Citizen of the Year" award.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include brother, Robert Martin (Pat) of Mill Valley; her husband since 1943, George Francis; children, Martin F. (Paulette) of Antioch, Catherine Von Ibsch (Ernst) of Oakland, Patricia Whittaker of Lauganitas, George M. (Sheila) of Sterling, Va., and Matthew of Davis; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial Mass at 1 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church, 200 West 14th St., Davis. Arrangements by Davis Funeral Chapel.

Contributions preferred, in Mrs. Moran's name, to Davis Senior Center, 646 A St., Davis CA 95616.

Alda Cuneo

Aug. 20, 1923 -- Sept. 21, 2002

Alda Cuneo, 97, died Sept. 25 at her home in Vallejo after a long illness.

Born in Brecia, Italy, she was a resident of Vallejo since 1922.

Mrs. Cuneo was a homemaker.

She was an active member of the Vallejo Women's Club.

Mrs. Cuneo was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur in 1997.

Survivors include her niece, Nancy Diez of Santa Rosa; brother-in-law, Raymond of Yakima, Wash. and her cousin, Lena Bacigalupi of Vallejo.

Visitation will be held, noon to 9 p.m. Sept. 26 at Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo with vigil service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial, 11 a.m. Sept. 27 in the Mausoleum Chapel at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo with clergy from St. Basil's Church officiating. Entombment will follow.

Contributions are preferred to the Hanna Boys Center, P.O. Box 100, Sonoma, CA 95476 or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.

Helen Cowper

Oct. 28, 1946 -- Nov. 16, 2002

Helen Cowper, 56, of American Canyon, died at home Saturday.

Born in Cook County, Ill., Mrs. Cowper lived in Vallejo from 1981-99 before moving to American Canyon three years ago.

She was a self-employed sales ad consultant for 15 years.

Mrs. Cowper loved family, horses and arts and crafts.

Survivors include her husband Wayne and daughter Amy, both of American Canyon; sons, Beau DeJohn of Rohnert Park; Chris of American Canyon; mother, Elaine Feldman of American Canyon and her granddaughter Chelsea DeJohn of Rohnert Park.

A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 23 at Skyview Funeral Chapel in Vallejo, with Chaplain Ken Buffey of Petaluma Public Safety officiating. Private inurnment.

Melvin Holland

(Oct. 3, 1915 - March 31, 2001)

Melvin Lee Holland, 85, died Saturday at a local hospital following a long illness.

Mr. Holland was born in Greene County, Ark. and was a Vallejo resident for 57 years. He worked for Mare Island Naval Shipyard from 1943-56, and worked for C&H Sugar Refinery for 32 years, retiring in 1973. Mr. Holland was involved with the Vallejo Senior Center.

Survivors include sisters, Dorothy I. Dial of Kansas and Hazel B. Wehunt of Arkansas; and brother, Gilbert F. of St. Louis, Mo.

Visitation from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Skyview Garden Chapel, Vallejo. Funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday at Skyview Garden Chapel. Burial in Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Contributions preferred to American Heart Association, North Bay Office, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa, CA 95402.

Dorothy Rossborough

Dec. 25, 1919 -- Sept. 20, 2002

Dorothy M. Rossborough, 82, died Sept. 20, at her home.

Mrs. Rossborough was born in Vermont to the late George and Cora (Swenor) Loya and for 40 years resided in Vallejo before moving to North Providence.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church North Providence. She was also a communicant of St. Basil the Great Church in Vallejo.

Mrs. Rossborough was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Robert Dill and Richard Dill, Jr.; brothers, John and Allen Loya; sister, Beatrice Lombardi and grandson, Fred Smith, Jr.

Mrs. Rossborough was survived by her husband of 42 years, John of North Providence; daughter, Connie Fraieli of North Providence; brothers, Herbert Loya of Denton,  Texas; Frank Loya of Concord, N.C.; sisters, Laura Kecki of Davenport, Fla.; Hazel St. Germain of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Hazel Publicover of Ipswich, Mass and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held, 9 a.m. Sept. 24 at A. A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St., Providence. There will also be a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony church, 1413 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
