Matthew Burns

Dec. 15, 1957 -- July 22, 2002

Matthew A. Burns Sr., 44, died Monday.

Mr. Burns, also known as "Matt," was a Vallejo native and resident.

He was employed as a carpenter.

Mr. Burns enjoyed fishing, hunting, motor boating and sailing.

His parents, Bee B. and Audrey Blanche Burns preceded him in death.

Survivors are his daughter, Amanda and Matthew Allen Jr. both of Marietta, Ohio; sisters, Barbara (Jim) Turner of Vallejo; Dana (Del) Wilson of Fairfield; and his brother, William of Rio Vista.

A private inurnment will be held at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, Vallejo.

Arrangements made by Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, Vallejo.

Thomas Hale

July 15, 1924 -- March 24, 2003

Thomas Murphy Hale, 78, died Monday at home after a short illness.

He was born in Canton, Ohio, and had been a Vallejo resident for 13 years.

Mr. Hale was a teacher and administrator for 40 years retiring in 1988.

He was a member of the Kaneohe Yacht Club.

Mr. Hale is survived by his wife, Joan of Vallejo; daughter, Jane (Jacques) Bargiel of Kailua, Hawaii; son, George (Tracey) of Vallejo; sisters, Patricia McMichael of Boothbay, Maine, and Barbara  Jackson of Dunnellon, Fla.; brother, James of Placerville and grandchildren, George III and Thad both of Vallejo; Sophie, Roland and Hannah Bargiel of Kailua, Hawaii.

No services will be held.

Arrangements made by Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.

Alma Archer

Feb. 27, 1913 -- Sept. 12, 2002

Alma B. Archer, 89, died at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Vallejo after a long illness.

Mrs. Archer was born in Los Angeles and had been a Vallejo resident since 1918.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Archer was preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth "Bill" Archer in 1983 and her parents Ernest and Amy Fugler.

Her survivors include daughters, Amy (Melvin) Rodrick and Georgiana Simmons, both of Vallejo; three grandchildren, Anne Simmons of Vallejo; Alison Rodrick of San Diego and Raegan (Yasuo) Shigeyoshi of San Francisco and two great-grandchildren.

No services will be held. Inurnment will be at Tulocay Cemetery, in Napa.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Vallejo-Benicia Humane Society, 1121 Sonoma Blvd., Vallejo or charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements under the direction of Struble Family Funeral Services.

James Ingram

Jan. 3, 1930 -- Nov. 18, 2002.

James Ingram, Sr., 72, died Nov. 18 in Vallejo.

Mr. Ingram was a native of Chillicothe, Ohio, and was a former resident of Fairfield and current Vallejo resident.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1969 as a TSGT after 22 years of service as a communications specialist. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam War before beginning his 10 year career with the U.S. Postal Service.

Mr. Ingram enjoyed reading and watching movies, going to air shows and prior to his illness, he enjoyed driving. One of his favorite things to do was attend family gatherings.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Vallejo; daughters, Judith Lorde of Fairfield; Donna and Linda both of Vallejo; son, James (Elizabeth) of Oakland; stepdaughter, Minnie  Jones of Vallejo; sisters, Eileen Dover and Gail Harrison both of Springfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Tyrone  Whiten of Oakland; Mary Ann (Reinaldo) Corey of Sacramento; Jaime of Fairfield; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Nov. 22 at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 West  Texas St., Fairfield. Private disposition.

James Altonaga

May 1, 1945 -- July 20, 2002

James Alberto Altonaga, 57, died Saturday at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas after a long illness.

Born in the Philippines, Mr. Altonaga was an American Canyon resident for three years.

Mr. Altonaga worked for Assist to Sell Real Estate in Daly City for six months. He was previously an auto salesman on the Peninsula for 20 years.

He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, and a member of Realtors of California.

Survivors include his wife, Marilou of American Canyon; daughters, Consuelo (Romulus) Lalunio of  Texas; Maria (Jason) Tate of Santa Clara; and Katherine of American Canyon; sons, Carlo of Vallejo; James of American Canyon; and Francisco Lozada of the Philippines; mother, Frevesvinda of the Philippines; sisters, Susan Del Carmen, Dulce Tecson and Marina all of the Philippines; brothers, George of Illinois; and Cesar of San Francisco.

Visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 24 and July 25 with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10 a.m., July 26 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Vallejo. Burial at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo.

Joseph Kokal

Feb. 20, 1923 -- March 24, 2003

Joseph "Joe" Matt Kokal, 80, died March 24 at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Vallejo after a brief illness.

Mr. Kokal was born and raised in Altus, Ark., and had lived in Vallejo for the past 62 years.

He was a fireman with the Vallejo Fire Department for 31 and a half years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Basil's Catholic Church.

His primary focus and devotion in life was taking care of his family.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Vallejo; daughter, Mary Jo (Curtis) Brandon of Vallejo; sons, Michael (Rocky) of San Antonio,  Texas; Stephen (Paula) of Chico; Richard (Terri) of Vallejo and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 3 to 9 p.m., with vigil services at 7 p.m. March 27 at Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m., March 28 at St. Basil's Catholic Church, Vallejo. Burial will follow in All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo.

Contributions preferred to St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School or the Hanna Boys Center.
