Jerry Guajaca
51, passed Dec. 9, 2004, at this home in Sugarloaf.
Born in Torrance, Calif. an Sept. 21, 1953, Jerry was a long time resident and had worked for Bear City Paving.
He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline; mother Barbara Guajaca; three sisters and two brothers.
Services were held at the Bear Valley Community Church on Jan. 14, 2005.
Lena Mansfield
age 100 of Memphis, Tennessee, former long-time Big Bear Lake resident, passed November 20, 2004 in Memphis.
Graveside service will be held at the Mountain View Memorial Park, 570 W. Highland Avd., San Bernardino at 10 a.m. January 29.
The services will be conducted by the ladies Eastern Star, Big Bear Chapter.
Hazel Esther Wheeler
88, passed Jan. 16, 2005. Born Jan. 19, 1916, (Hazel was just shy of her 89th birthday) in Manhattan Beach, Calif., she was a teacher from 1940 through 1974. In 1986, Hazel moved to Big Bear as a permanent resident with her husband, William Adelbert Wheeler. She is survived by her son, William Earling Wheeler; nephew, Charles Uhlmann and his family of Tokyo, Japan; and niece Verna Cummings and her family of Binghamton, New York. Hazel was a long-time active member of the Latter Day Saints ward in Big Bear and will be missed by her many friends in the community.
Charlotte M. Reck
74, passed away March 12, 2006, at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
Charlotte was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Paris, Ill.
She was homemaker.
She was a resident of Big Bear City for 14 years and formerly resided in Hacienda Heights for 21 years.
Janet Lynn Verburg Hobbs
26, passed Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in San Bernardino. She was a graduate of Chino High School and Cal Poly Pomona and was a teacher with the Ontario Montclair School District. She was born Aug. 5, 1979, in Orange, Calif.
She is survived by her husband, Alec and her week-old daughter, Emily Adele Hobbs; parents, Rick and Susan Verburg; sister and brother-in-law, Kristin and Bret Freeman; grandparents, Don and Kathy Verburg and Bob and Betty Pierce, formerly of Big Bear; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Patti Hobbs; brother-in-law Matthew Hobbs; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was a beautiful and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin and friend. Many memories of her with her parents and grandparents in Big Bear, she will be greatly missed.
The memorial service was held March 18 at the First Methodist Church of Ontario.

Edward S. Dobis
96, passed March 3, 2006.
Ed retired as a commander after 30 years in the Navy.
In 1962 he and his wife, Grace, and son, Ted and Ted's wife, Kris, bought the Lighthouse Trailer Resort on the North Shore of Big Bear Lake.
Katharine Wissler Hall
88, of Big Bear Lake, passed away on Oct. 22 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Born on Dec. 19, 1915, Katharine is survived by her son, Robert A. Hall, and daughter-in-law, Jacquie, of Coraopolis, PA, and her daughter, KJ Barto, and son-in-law, Ron, of Big Bear Lake. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Emily Hall, David Hall, Danessa Barto, Devin Barto, Davin Barto, and Darissa Barto.
Married to the former director of the Griffith Park Observatory, Leon Hall, for over 45 years, she moved to Big Bear in 1982 and lived there until moving into a care facility.
Katharine W. Hall was a consummate musician from an early age. She started high school around the age of 10 and was the accompanist for the high school choir and concert mistress of the orchestra. Katharine was accompanist for the American Opera Guild and had her own radio program on KPPC out of Pasadena in the 1950s. She was also an opera singer in her own right and a vocal coach for many decades. For many years, Katharine Hall headed a musical theater group called the "Wissler Lyric Association" She was the musical director for everything from grand opera to Gilbert and Sullivan to Broadway musicals. In Big Bear Valley she was music director at St. Columba's Episcopal Church and organist/pianist at the Big Bear Lake United Methodist Church as well as being a sought-after accompanist for a variety of occasions.
A memorial service will be held at Big Bear Lake United Methodist Church, at the corner of North Shore and Holden in Big Bear City, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004.

Walter A. Hall
81, passed Nov. 27, 2004, at home in Vista.
Born Jan. 4, 1923, in Kansas City, raised in Ohio, he lived his last 25 years in Big Bear City and San Diego county.
Walter had two careers. His first as a contracts lawyer for fhe Department of Defense and his last (his love) real estate broker in Big Bear Lake and San Diego. He was affiliated with Olde Tyme Realty in the 1980's, Spencer Real Estate in the l980's and 1990's, Owned Sawmill Realty in the 1980s and was with Pioneer Realty until he moved to San Diego.
He was a member of VFW Post 7370 in Big Bear City for years and a member of the Big Bear Lake Elks Lodge. Pfc. Hall was in the Army 35th Infantry, 134th Div, Co. A. He received two purple hearts after being wounded in action in Metz the first time and wounded in Germany when with the 9th Army the second time.
Preceded in death by his daughter, Dacia in 1997. Walter is survived by his wife of 30 yeas, Patricia, son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Tina Hall, daughter, Nancy Mangan, brothers Kenneth and Charles and seven grandchildren, Lon, Valerie, Ricky, Danny, Danica, Darlene and Michael.
His cremains will be put to rest at the National Cemetary in Riverside.
George "Bud" Wilbur Cline
of Mancos, Colo., passed on Dec. 14, 2004, at the age of 91. Former long-time resident of San Bemardino and five-year resident of Big Bear Lake, he was the first manager of Bank of America (now FMB), retired to Yucaipa and Rohnert Park, Calif., with his daughter Georgia and sons-in-law Larry Harris. He is also survived by three other daughters and son-in-laws, Kathryn and George A. Kenline of Big Bear Lake, Elizabeth and George Parker III, of Williamsburg Va., and Janet and Tito Sasaki of Sonoma, Calif.
Bud worked in these mountains during high school in 1927 building rock walls at the Adam's Cabins and Camp Seeley in Valley of Enchantment. He was second in line of five generations having ties to Big Bear Lake.
Bud's beloved wife, Jean, preceded him in death Nov. 2003. They met at the School for the Deaf where they earned their way through UC Berkeley. Married 65 years, both were active in Big Bear charitable organizations providing the bank as a place for the Historical Society to meet in its beginning, He is also survived by six grandchildren. George H. Kenline of Angeles Oaks, Susan L Elliott of Big Bear Lake, Jeremy Harris of Rohnert Park, Jennifer Reed of Mustang, Oka., Heather Letzring of San Diego, and Jessica Roulston of Venice Beach.
He is also survived by six great-grandchildren. Alysa and Kaitlyn Reed, Justin and James (passed 1998) Elliott, Erica and Amanda Letzring and two step great-grandchildren Camille and Jacqualine Williams.
After he retired from the bank, he took on the job of painting, for free, every widow's house in the neighborhood. He loved to plant vegetables and his front yard always bloomed of roses.
James Thomas "Bass Bum" Van Huss
73, passed March 22, 2006. Born March 3, 1933, in Temple, Oka. Jim was a resident of Big Bear for 18 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a golf course superintendent for many years for the L.A. City Parks and Recreation Department. Upon his retirement, Jim remained active with his special hobbies: building and flying model airplanes, golf, and fishing for bass in the many Southern California lakes.
Jim was a devoted husband, a loving family and a very active dedicated grandfather. She is survived by his wife Dorothy; brother Bill; 10 children and step children; 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness on Catalina Dr., Big Bear Lake. All who knew and loved him are welcome. There will be a potluck reception gathering immediately following (location to be announced). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jim Van Huss Memorial Fund at the Arrowhead Credit Union.
Donna May Andrest Broughton Turman
68, passed March 24, 2006. Born May 2, 1937, in Gloversville, NY, Donna was a resident of Big Bear from the 1950s to the 1970s. She is survived by her husband, Larry of Covina; daughter Bev Broughton of Hesperia; two sons, Bill Broughton of Covina and Brian Broughton of St. John; and many others who loved and will miss her.
Services will be held Friday, March 31, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 21300 Via Verde Dr., Covina, Calif. 800-204-3131.
Brian Scott Robillard
39, passed April 17, 2006, when he lost his way in a snow storm in Big Bear Lake. Born Aug. 29, 1966, in Newport Beach, Calif., Brian moved to Big Bear with his family in February 1976. He attended North Shore Elementary, Big Bear Middle School and Big Bear High School and was part of the class of 1985. Brian resided in Oregon, South Dakota, Minnesota and Washington, but Big Bear was always home. At the time of his passing, he was living in Lucerne Valley. He was staying with a friend at Cedar Lake when he lost his way while walking home. He was found 28 days later.
A loving son, brother and friend, most people will remember Brian for his smile and the laughter he could always evoke.
He is survived by his parents Ron and Jayne; three brothers James (Jayme), Anthony (Tony) and Jason; two sisters, Gina Neuman and Elizabeth Marsh; grandmother Yvette (Meme) Journey plus many aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
Services will be held at Cedar Lake, April 28, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. the Rev. Gary Schlenz officiating. Brian was a born again Christian and is now at home with the Lord.
