Mary Collins

Feb. 21, 1940 -- Feb. 14, 2003

Mary "Miss Mary" J. Collins, 62, died at home Friday after a long illness.

Born in Dodson, La., she had lived in Benicia for 10 years and Vallejo for 21 years. She had also lived in  Washington for six years before moving to her final location in Sacramento.

Ms. Collins was a dietary specialist working for Vallejo Convalescent Hospital 20 years before retiring in 1995. She married her husband, John in 1956. She was a Christian and a member of King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, word search puzzles, and family gatherings.

Survivors include her companion, Donald Turner, Sr. of Sacramento; daughters, Angela Collins and Melba (Byron) Collins-Ralston of Sacramento; and Beverly of Vallejo; sons, Eddie of Frankfurt, Germany; Chris of Vallejo; Fred of Sacramento; brothers, Hank Gray of Renton, Wash.; Nathaniel (Emma) Harden of Richland, Wash.; Roy Harden of McPherson, Kan.; half brother, Larry Jones, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of other relatives.

Visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m. Feb. 20 at Skyview Funeral Chapel, Vallejo. A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Feb. 21 at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, West 11th and Military West St., Benicia. The Rev. Will Floyd of King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial at Skyview Memorial Lawn.

Perla Vallejos

Sept. 26, 1943 -- Nov. 17, 2002

Perla Guevara Vallejos, 59, died Nov. 17 at a local hospital after a brief illness.

Born in the Philippines, she was a resident of Vallejo for 27 years.

Mrs. Vallejos worked as an Electronic Technician for 10 years at Systron and Donner Aircraft Manufacturer.

She was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church;, Fil-Am Progressive Organization and Fil-Am Empowerment Association of Solano County.

Mrs. Vallejos was preceded in death by her daughter, Hazel Vallejos-Penate, who died Feb. 28, 2001 and granddaughter, Sydney Penate, who died Feb. 9, 2001.

Survivors include her husband, Henry of Vallejo; daughter, Marie of Vallejo; son, Patrick of Vallejo; sister, Ramona of the Philippines; and brothers, Ricardo Guevara and Rolando Guevara, both of the Philippines.

Visitation will be, 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. November 21 with a 7 p.m. vigil November 21 at Colonial Chapels in Vallejo. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered, 11 a.m. November 22 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Vallejo. Burial in All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo.

Lodena Beaubien

Aug. 31, 1937 -- Feb. 16, 2003

Lodena Ferrari Beaubien, 67, died Feb. 16 at home in Aptos.

She was born in Vallejo at Vallejo General Hospital and lived in Santa Cruz for 35 years.

She attended Grant Grammar School, Franklin Jr. High School and graduated from St. Vincent's High School. Mrs. Beaubien attended Dominican College in San Rafael and went on to become a teacher.

Mrs. Beaubien taught Kindergarten at Santa Cruz Gardens Elementary School for 15 years and at Capitola Elementary School for 11 years.

Her father, Joseph Tintorri preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Duane of Aptos; daughters, Jeanne Amas of Kauai, Hawaii; Judy Ferrari of Los Angeles; Jackie Ried of Petaluma; her son, Joseph Ferrari of Saipan; her mother, Albina Kaiser of Vallejo; and her sister, Darlene Jewett also of Vallejo.

Services will be private.

Contributions may be made to the Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz, 6851 Soquel Dr., Aptos, CA 9500

Helen Toth

August 5, 1918 -- Feb. 14, 2003

Helen Vivian Toth, 84, died Feb. 14 with her family at her side at the Queen of the Valley Hosptial.

Mrs. Toth was born in Millfield, Ohio and was a longtime resident of Vallejo before moving to Napa in 1960.

She was a psychiatric aide at the Athens State Hospital for 20 years.

Her husband, Orley preceded her in death in 1987.

She is survived by her daughters, Rita Robinson of Santa Clara, N.M., Linda Bell of Vallejo; son, Dr. Bill Toth of Silver City, N.M.; her sister, Jean Loper of American Canyon; and brother, Jerry Russell of Vallejo; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service 1:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at the home of Carol and Jim Stavis, 3897 Klamath Ct., Napa 224-2157, Pastor Bill Walden will officiate.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa, CA 95402.

Arrangements made under the care of Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Mary Williams

July 13, 1938 -- May 24, 2003

Mary Lee Williams, 64, died at home on Saturday after a brief illness.

Mrs. Williams was born in Little Rock, Ark., and was a Vallejo resident.

She was a mother and a housewife.

Mrs. Williams was a Jehovah's Witness and belonged to the Vallejo Heights Congregation. She loved collecting dolls, coins, stamps and clocks.

Survivors include her daughters, Luella Williams Bamot and Rhonda of Vallejo; sons, James and Thomas of Vallejo; sisters, Bernice McVea, Cathy Holmes and Rose Mary Holmes, all of Seattle, Wash.; brothers, George Holmes of Vallejo, Alexander Holmes and Joseph Holmes of Sacramento; Robert Holmes and Jesse Holmes of Seattle, Wash., and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. May 30 at Cooley and Riolo Mortuary, Inc., Vallejo. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., May 31 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Vallejo, with Norman Hutchins officiating. Private inurnment.

Esther Bronder

June 20, 1914 -- Jan. 31, 2003

Esther Bronder, 88, died Jan. 31. in a Vallejo Nursing Home after a long illness.

Mrs. Bronder was born in Arkansas and was a Vallejo resident.

She worked as a homemaker for 60 years.

Mrs. Bronder was survived by her daughter, Shirley Kalamaras of Vallejo; and son, Glenn Hargrove of Yuma, Arkansas.

No services will be held. There was an inurnment.
