Juana Cantorna
June 1, 1920 -- March 29, 2003
Juana Cabbab Cantorna, 82, died March 29 at a local hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Cantorna was born in the Philippines and was a Vallejo resident for 17 years.
She was a homemaker and a member of Vallejo Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
She is survived by her sister, Margarita of Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. April 4 and April 5at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 5 at Colonial Chapels. Burial at the Valley of the Temple Cemetery, Kaneohe, Hawaii.
Sarah Bullard
Feb. 23, 1911 -- March 29, 2003
Sarah E. Bullard, 92, died March 29 at Napa Convalescent Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Bullard was born in Joy, Texas, and was a Vallejo resident.
She worked at Mr. Hobos Fish N Chips for 20 years and Maritime Academy Snack Bar for 10 years.
She was a volunteer at the Florence Douglas Senior Center and American Cancer Society Thrift Shop. Mrs. Bullard enjoyed crochet, reading, traveling, cruises and being around people.
Mrs. Bullard was preceded in death by her son, Dick.
Survivors include her daughters, Imogene Carmichael and Dorothy Johnson both of Vallejo; son, Bill of South Carolina; her five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. April 6 at Struble Family Funeral Services, Vallejo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. April 7 at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, 1505 Georgia St. Burial at Chapel of the Chimes off of the Napa Vallejo Highway.
Charles Williams
June 29, 1915 -- March 27, 2003
Charles "Charlie" Williams, 87, died peacefully in Napa of Alzheimer's disease.
He was born in Quincy, Mass., and lived Napa. He moved to Vallejo as an infant where he attended local schools.
He was a track and football star at Vallejo High School, he also played on the University of Pacific football team under Amos Alonzo Stagg (the "Grand Old Man of Football").
Mr. Williams served in World II in Europe in counter intelligence. He also worked for 33 years at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, as a naval architect on ships and nuclear submarines. At the end of World War II he was called to serve for two years in the Army Counter Intelligence Service and worked in England and Germany.
He received many acknowledgments for his government service, including a commendation for developing a process for measuring corrosion progression on naval vessels, subsequently adopted by the U.S. Navy.
In 1943, he became the proud father of Vallejo's first set of triplets. Because there were few things to accommodate triplets, he began inventing many things for his children such as a T-shaped baby stroller. Five years after the birth of his triplets, he became the father of twin boys. He and his wife bought an old farm house in Napa they called the "Double Seven Ranch" because there were seven acres and seven people in the family.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Barbara of Napa; daughter, Marylee Norick of San Jose; sons, Terry of West Linn, Ore.; Larry of Newberg, Ore.; and Ron of Lebanon, Ore.; Don Williams of Baker City, Ore.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. April 4 at Napa Valley Baptist Church, 2303 Trower Ave., Napa. He will be buried at Tulocay Cemetery
in Napa with a Military Honor Guard.
Donations may be made in his name to Hospice of Napa Valley, the Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Maxine Bonton
Sept. 1, 1930 -- Feb. 21, 2003
Maxine O. Bonton, 72, died at home Feb. 21.
She was born in Little Rock, Ark., and lived in Vallejo for 60 years.
She worked for Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a clerical clerk for 30 years, retiring in 1965.
Her mother, Fannie Gibbs; brother, Odies Dukes and her cousin all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Robert Poindexter Sr. of Vallejo; sister, Jeanette Williams of Reno; grandsons, Robert and Derek Poindexter both of Fairfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. April 4 at Skyview Garden Chapel, Vallejo. Private inurnment.
Gladys Trinidad
Aug. 8, 1979 -- May 23, 2003
Gladys N. Trinidad, 23, died May 23 from an automobile accident in Visalia.
She was born in the Philippines and lived in Vallejo for five years.
Ms. Trinidad worked as a medical account adjuster for three years.
She was a member of St. Basil's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her parents, Jesus and Lorna, and her sister, Hazel Marie, all of Vallejo.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with vigil services at 7 p.m. May 30 at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. May 31 at St. Basil's Catholic Church, Vallejo. Burial will follow at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo.
Robbie Mosby
Jan. 15, 1955 - July 31, 2003
Robbie Jean Trotter Mosby died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Sutter Solano Medical Center after a brief illness. Robbie was born January 15, 1955 in Los Angeles, California, and moved to Vallejo in 1962. She attended Olympic Elementary School in Vallejo. Then she moved to Fairfield-Suisun City where she attended Crystal Middle School and Armijo High School. She was a certified nurse's aide and worked at different nursing homes in the area. She was also employed at Travis Air Force Base in food services.
Survivors include her son, Ron Kearns (Spanky) of Vallejo; father, Theotis Trotter Sr. of San Francisco; mother, Bobbie Nell Adkins of Vallejo; stepfather, Samuel E. Adkins of Vallejo; sister, Debra Lanier Trotter of Fairfield; brother, Theotis Trotter Jr. of Vallejo; daughter-in-law, Jamie Kane Kearns of Vallejo; grandson, Hobart Kane Kearns of Vallejo; a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home. Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn.
Phillip Antonio Gutierrez
April 2, 1933 - July 30, 2003
Phil Gutierrez, 70, passed away Wednesday, July 30th at Kaiser Hospital following a long illness. Born in San Francisco, he was a Vallejo resident for over 60 years.
An all-star high school athlete, he graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School in 1951 and University of Santa Clara in 1955. Phil was an insurance agent/broker for over 45 years and ran his own business, Gutierrez Insurance Agency in Vallejo for 30 years.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he will be greatly missed. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be remembered for his love for life, generosity and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dee; daughters, Lisa Wilson, Dawn (Ruell) Cayabyab and Nicci (Don) King; grandsons, Phillip Wilson and Dominic, Carlo and Antonin Cayabyab, of Vallejo; brother, Roberto (Karyn) Gutierrez, nephews, Zachary and Nico, and niece, Kristin Gutierrez of Connecticut.
Visitation is Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Colonial Chapels. Funeral mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent's Church. Burial to follow at All Soul's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association.
