Charles B. 'Chas' Hopkins

Charles B. "Chas" Hopkins, 63, passed away Monday following a long illness.
Mr. Hopkins was born in Lampasas, Texas. He was a longtime Vallejo resident, graduating from Vallejo High School in 1958. He attended Painters Paintership and was the owner and operator of The Village in Vallejo for many years. He was loved and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his father, O.B. Hopkins.
Survivors include his daughter, Tracie; his mother, Donia; his brothers, Bill, Edward and Danny; and his sister, Darlene.
At his request, private services will be held and inurnment will be private. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo.
Steven Michael Waters

Steven Michael Waters, 45, died Nov. 26, 2003 in his Vacaville home after a very brief illness. Born in Vallejo, Mr. Waters was a resident of Vacaville.
A graduate of Hogan High School, he was active in the Junior ROTC and was a police volunteer.
Mr. Waters worked for Waters Appliance for 15 years and was the Branch Manager of Comm Air of Sacramento for 10 years.
A family man who enjoyed boating, he was active in the Fairfield Baseball club where he organized a T-Ball team and helped build the Laurel Creek Baseball Field. He also did work with the Seniors of Fairfield, organizing their weekly bingo games.
Survivors include his wife of two months, Theresa M. Waters; daughter, Danielle Waters of Fairfield; son, Dwight F. Waters of Fairfield; parents, Russell Waters (father) of Escondido, Dorothy and Eugene Harty (mother and stepfather) of Vacaville; sister, Linda Waters-Goss of Tennessee; brothers, Richard (Monica) Waters of Modesto and their children: Tiffany, Tyler, Michael and Nicole; Larry (Heather) Waters of Vacaville and their children: Timothy and Rochelle; Mark (Gina) Waters of Vacaville and their children: Chris and Cameron; Justin Wagner and Angela Stone of Spokane, Wash.; aunts and uncles, William and June Miller of Oceanside, and Kenneth and Randi Paules of Vallejo.
A celebration of his life will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Christian Church of Vacaville with Pastor Su Schlagel officiating. Inurnment will be private.

Raymond Anthony Cortez

Raymond Anthony Cortez, 65, died at his Vallejo home following a valiant struggle with cancer.
Born in San Francisco to Ernest and Marjorie (Anglin) Cortez, Ray served in the U.S. Army and worked 37 years as a Local 853 Teamster driving for RMC Pacific Ready-Mix of San Francisco. He was also an active member in the Sons of Italy of Vallejo.
Fondly known as "Papa Ray," Ray greatly enjoyed life with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 30 years, Ginny of Vallejo; daughter, Pamela Laino of Petaluma; son, Larry (Dee Dee) Laino of Petaluma; grandchildren, Brittany and Stephan Laino of Petaluma; brothers, Armando Cortez of Daly City and Fred Darling of Redwood City; and many nieces and nephews.
Ray celebrated life every day and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Per his request, services will not be held. John M. Holloway
March 15, 1911 - Nov. 30, 2003
John "Jack" M. Holloway, 92, of Vallejo died Sunday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Vallejo, after a brief illness. Born to Clarence and Mary Holloway in Mobile, Alabama, Mr. Holloway was a 58-year resident of Vallejo.
Mr. Holloway worked on Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a research chemist in rubber and plastic for 25 years before retiring in 1971. He worked in research and development on the Manhattan Project, designed and built the nuclear sonar sail, developed the Navy's frogman suits, wrote texts and developed and taught rubber compounding technology for repair of cruisers.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Vallejo, and Vallejo Elks Lodge No. 559, and a member of St. Basil's Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Eileen (1995).
Survivors include his daughter, Eileenmarie (Peter) Palavos of Oregon; sons, John M. (Lois) Holloway Jr. of Nebraska and J. Christopher Holloway of Stockton; grandchildren, Annastasia Palavos Miles, Sophia Palavos Thompson, Demetrius Palavos, Anna Maria Holloway Vigal, Melissa Holloway Diers, Christine Holloway, Stephanie Holloway and Kellan Holloway; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Demetria Thompson, Alexander, Darian and Parker Palavos Miles, Dariuana Holloway, Aaron Vigal, Jenna Vigal, Ian Diers and Dariian Layne Holloway.
A Mass will be at 9 a.m. today at St. Basil's Catholic Church. Burial will be at All Souls Catholic Cemetery.
Rolene Hodson

Rolene E. Hodson, died at home in Vallejo Nov. 22, 2003.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, Vallejo. Entombment will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn.
Bernese "Bonnie" Yancy
Feb. 18, 1920 - Nov. 29, 2003
Bernese "Bonnie" Yancy, 83, of Vallejo, died Saturday at Sutter Solano Medical Center, Vallejo.
Mrs. Yancy worked as a Nurse's Aide for 35 years. She was a member of the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Guy Yancy in 1954.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Pearce of Vallejo and Jackie (Wayne) Gofrey of Washington State; son, Gene (Sara) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister, Wanda Hopson of Visalia; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Colonial Chapels. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church, 1505 Georgia St., Vallejo with Pastor Randal Robertson officiating. Burial will be on Friday at Washington Colony Cemetery, Fresno.
Josephine Marie Ayson
July 4, 1948 - Nov. 23, 2003
Josephine "Joannie" Marie Ayson, 55, died Sunday, Nov. 23, at Sutter Solano Medical Center-Vallejo after a long illness. She was a Vallejo native and resident.
Joannie was a home health care provider for six years and a member of Harvest Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading and quilting and loved her two dogs, Maggie and Lucy.
Her father, Frank G. Sargent Sr. and her brother, Phillip Sargent preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Frank Ayson Jr. and Sean Ayson of Vallejo; mother, Florence Sargent of Vallejo; brother, Frank G. Sargent Jr. of Vallejo and 10 grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, Vallejo. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Tremble officiating. Burial will be held at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, Vallejo.
