Ilona Young

Ilona M. Young, 58, died at home Sunday following a long illness. Ms. Young was born in Pansey, Ala., and was a Vallejo resident for over 45 years.
She retired from Travis Air Force Base after 25 years of dedicated service in food preparation. She was a member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church and was on the Usher Board until she developed health problems. Ms. Young enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo and watching movies on TV.
Her beloved mother, Mrs. Sarah Smith, preceded Ms. Young in death. Survivors include her daughter, Nina Young, and son, Alaric Young, both of Vallejo; granddaughter, Aleea Young; cousin, Martha Stokes of Modesto, Ca.; two nieces, Sophia Miller and Jovita Johnson, both of Vallejo; and a host of aunts and cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church in Vallejo, with the Rev. C. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.
Arrangements were made by Cooley and Riolo Mortuary, Vallejo.
Federico Rico Jr.

Federico "Uncle G" Rico, Jr., 63, died Tuesday at a local hospital after a long illness. He was born in Villadolid, Negros Occidental, Philippines, and lived in Vallejo for 17 years.
Mr. Rico was a psychiatric technician nurse for San Francisco General Hospital for six years; he retired earlier this year. He was a member of Free and Accepted Mason-Domangasanan, Deacon UCCV. He loved fishing, camping and walking at the Vallejo Waterfront. He was an avid karoake singer and a fan of Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Mahjong and Pusoy, "One Arm Bandit."
Survivors include his wife, Pacita Rico of Vallejo; daughters, Christine Joy Rico of Albany; Lillian Rico of Florida and Corazon Rico of Vallejo; sons, Ferdinand Rico of Florida and F. Noel Rico of Vallejo; sister, Luningning Cadelina of the Philippines; brothers, the Rev. Bayani Rico of Vallejo and Dave Rico of the Philippines; and grandchildren, Christopher Rico, Zachary Noel Rico and Matthew Paul Rico all of Vallejo.
He was a loving and generous husband, father and grandfather.
Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. today and Friday at Skyview Garden Chapel, Vallejo. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Church of Christ, 441 Nebraska St., Vallejo. The Rev. Pepito Jalapit, the Rev. Bayani Rico and the Rev. Lillian Valentin De-Rico will officiate the service.
Irene Groen

Irene Groen passed away at home on September 25 surrounded by her family. Irene was born to Lydia and Henry Lumby in Sanborn, Iowa, on May 25, 1922. Following high school graduation, she moved to California during World War II and she worked for Douglas Aircraft, building planes for the military. Irene married Edwin Groen following the war and they settled in Vallejo.

Hilman Hester Stubblefield, 68, passed away at home Saturday following a long illness.
Alice M. Odland
Sept. 28, 2003
Alice M. Odland passed away Sept. 28, 2003, after a long illness at the age of 77.
She was born in Austin, Minn., and was a resident of Benicia for 32 years.
Alice was a longtime supporter and active volunteer of the Benicia Community Action Council and Solano County Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her son, Darrell (Meg) of Vacaville; two daughters, Bonnie of Vallejo and Sharron (Craig) of Costa Mesa; two brothers, Virgil and Duanne Arett of Minn.; sister, Mary King of San Leandro; two grandsons, David and Thomas; granddaughter, Donna; and three great-grandchildren, David, Anthony and Orianna.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at Oakmont Mortuary, 2099 Reliez Valley Road in Lafayette. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Oakmont Mortuary.
Donations may be made to the Solano County Hospice.

Rinko Sasaki Gajkowski, 71, of Vallejo, died Saturday in a Vallejo care center.
A private Inurnment will take place.
Arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Chapels.
Mary Will 'Nana' Duarte
Nov. 26, 1919 - Sept. 24, 2003
Mary Duarte, age 83, was a resident of Vallejo for 59 years.
She was born in Thomas Town, Miss. to Ora Lee and Luther Leslie of Koscuisko, Miss. She died Sept. 24 at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa after a long illness.
She was a homemaker that enjoyed sewing, antiquing, cooking and having her secret garden.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Larry Woods.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Manuel Duarte of Vallejo; daughter, Sandra Hussey and her companion, John; and sister, Ramona Russell of Columbus, Miss. She was a wonderful grandmother of three grandchildren, Stephen Hussey, Bret Hussey and John Paul (Lola) Hussey. She is also survived by one great-grandchild Stephen "Shane" Hussey; nephew Denny (Elsie); and two nieces, Dawn and Linda.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Bob Gross officiating. Entombment will be at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery.

Len R. Woodson, 76, of Berkeley, died Thursday in Oakland.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cooley and Riolo Mortuary, Vallejo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church, Vallejo with the Rev. M.D. Slade officiating. Cremation will follow.

Richard "Peel" Houston Jr., 63, of Vallejo, died Wednesday at Kaiser Hospital in San Jose.
Robert William Walter Jr.
Aug. 17, 1931 - Sept. 25, 2003
Robert William Walter Jr., 72, passed away Thursday at La Mariposa Care and Rehabilitation in Fairfield following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Robert was born August 17, 1931, in Peoria, Illinois. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, retiring in January of 1978 as a senior master sergeant at Travis Air Force Base. Upon his retirement he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Richmond, Ca., as a letter carrier and postal clerk from 1978 to 1993. He was a co-founder of Sandy's 101 Omelettes in Fairfield and was a founding member of Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, in 1993. Survivors include his children, Robert III, Michael, Cathy and Thomas, and his grandchildren, Blake, Ashley, Josh and Casey.
Robert William Walter Jr. was a strong, caring, loving and dedicated husband and father. He will be missed deeply.
At his request, no services will be held. Private inurnment will be held in Mount View Cemetery
in Oakland.
Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo.
