Charles Henry 'Chuck' Barnes
Lake Shastina resident Charles Henry "Chuck" Barnes, 60, passed away at his home Dec. 9, 2004.
Chuck was born in Kirkland, Wash. on Sept. 25, 1944, to Charles and Marian Barnes. He worked as vice-president in the manufacturing industry for more than 30 years. He moved to Siskiyou County 10 years ago from Southern California.
Chuck was a member of BPO Elks No. 1980, and was a Ham Radio operator.
Survivors include his wife, Cheri Barnes of Lake Shastina; children Rita Carlson of Southern California, Marian Barnes of New Hampshire and Ryan and Josh Rehanek, both of Weed; mother Marian Adams of Sun City; sister Anita Sullivan of Southern California; brothers Scott Adams of Lake Shastina and Tony Adams of Southern California; and two grandsons.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. Dec. 14 at Girdner Funeral Chapel, with pastor Nick Toroni officiating.

Stella Jane Collier
Yreka resident Stella Jane Collier, 91, passed away at her home Dec. 7, 2004.
Stella was born March 18, 1913 in Thurber, Texas, to John and Elizabeth Hopcus. She was raised in Arkansas where her father went to work in the coal mines.
Stella graduated from Paris High School. She married George Dale Collier in Paris, Ark. on Nov. 15, 1932. The couple moved to Oxnard in 1950. Stella worked as a nurse's aide at St. John's Hospital in Oxnard for several years.
She moved to Siskiyou County in 1998 and made her home in Yreka where she lived with her daughter Mary. She was very active in pursuits to aide the poor. She worked in soup kitchens and the church thrift shop. She was a member and trustee of the YLI Chapter 180. Stella spent her life helping people, always there to lend a hand to those in need. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include daughter Mary O'Gorman of Yreka; daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Richard Schultz of Vallejo; sisters Alice Scroggins and Mary Metz, both of Peoria, III. and Ceil Magner of Oxnard; grandchildren George, Phillip, Eric and Tom Collier; Tom, Robert and Jenny O'Gorman; Diana Collier and Neil Schultz; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, George Dale Collier on Sept. 16, 1998; sons George Ed Collier and Thomas Martin Collier; and brothers John, Robert and Joseph Hopcus.
The recitation of the Rosary will be 7 p.m. tonight at Girdner Funeral Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial is 1 p.m. Dec. 11 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Santa Clara Cemetery
in Oxnard, where Stella will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Julian 'Pete' Marvin Goodwin
Klamath River resident, Julian "Pete" Marvin Goodwin, 68, passed away recently.
Pete was a Karuk tribal member and medicine man. He was born at Swillow Creek, along the Klamath River.
Pete dedicated his life to serving his people, taking care of and providing for the elders, and as a teacher and mentor for much of the young Native American boys, wanting to become men.
Pete lived for many years with Alice Johnson who was a medicine woman and taught Pete a lot about the Karuk culture, and they made Native American jewelry together.
Pete loved people, and will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
He loved to fish, hunt, and cut wood with his dogs, who were always with him. Pete always wanted to be outdoors.
Survivors include his sister, Viola Sedlow of Yreka; brother Matthew Goodwin of Red Bluff; his beloved companion, Martha Lopez of Hoopa; an aunt, Sylvina Logan of Hoopa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife Tuffie; his parents, Matthew Goodwin and Florence Aubrey; his sister, Mary Goodwin; and brothers Calvin and Patrick Goodwin.
A memorial service is 1:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Karuk Tribal Building in Happy Camp. Pete will be laid to rest next to his father in Happy Camp. There is a dinner gathering following at the Karuk Tribal Building.
John Wayne 'Johnny' Hammon
Siskiyou County native John Wayne "Johnny" Hammon, 47, lost his life in a vehicle accident on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, near Orleans.
Johnny was born Nov. 2, 1957, in Yreka, to Lawrence "Duane" and Bernice Hammon. He was raised in the Happy Camp and the Seiad Valley areas and graduated from Happy Camp High School.
On Jan. 13, 1979, Johnny married Donna Tisserand at the Montague Baptist Church in Montague. Johnny truly loved the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, playing horseshoes and softball, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed his occupation as a timber faller and equipment operator in the timber industry since the age of 18.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Montague; daughter and son-in-law Sheri and Ryan West of Yreka; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Wendy Hammon of Montague; daughter Jenny Hammon of Yreka; his mother, Bernice Hammon of Seiad Valley; sisters and brothers in-law Ginger and Vin Smith of Yreka and Mary and Bob Driskell of Etna, his twin brother and sister-in-law Jim and Joyce Hammon of Seiad Valley; brother and sister-in-law David and Vicki Hammon of Seiad Valley; sister and brother-in-law Mandi and Tim Stone of Horse Creek; grandsons, Derek and Lucas West of Yreka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father in July 1993.
Johnny was loved much, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service is 2 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Etna Cemetery
in Etna.

Pauline 'Pauly' Leslie Williams
Montague resident Pauline "Pauly" Leslie Williams, 71, passed away at her home on Jan. 4, 2005, after a five-and-half-year battle with cancer.
Pauly was born March 27, 1933, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Charles and Nora Lewis. She attended school in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School in l951. Pauly went to business college after graduation. She married Harold R. Barker in 1953, and lived in the Twin Falls and Eden areas.
She and her family lived in the Quincy-George area of Washington for 20 years. They moved to LaGrande, Ore., to open a pet shop. Due to health problems they moved to Idaho, where Harold passed away in 1990.
Pauly worked at Black Canyon Restaurant in Caldwell, Idaho, for five years.
While working there she met and married Thomas W. Williams, in 1992. The couple moved to Siskiyou County, making their home in Montague.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas W. Williams of Montague; sons and daughters in-law, Rand and Jan Barker of Selah, Wash. and Jeffery and Helen Barker of Montague; five grandchildren; sisters, Genevieve Crawford of Walla Walla, Wash. and Marjorie Benedict of Twin Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
No services are planned.

Pamela Raye Hopper
Longtime Siskiyou County resident Pamela Raye Hopper, 50, passed away in Yreka on Jan. 1, 2005.
Pamela was born in Kansas City, Mo., on May 20, 1954, to Lee Roy and Ida Ellene Hudson. She attended and graduated from Etna Union High School.
Pamela was married to Jerry Hopper. She worked as a florist for 20 years and was well known for her artwork.
In addition to her husband, Jerry, survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jerrid and Tina Hopper of Hollister; son Josh Hopper of Hollister; mother Ida Ellene Hudson of Quartz Valley; and sisters, Barbara Hudson of Greenview and Debrah Frost of Quartz Valley.
Pamela was preceded in death by her father, Lee Hudson; and a brother, Michael Hudson.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Jan. 8, at Valley Oaks Nutritional Site in Greenview.

Georgia Frances Miller
Georgia Frances Miller, of Yreka, passed away Jan. 6, 2005. She was 92.
She came to Yreka from Sebastopol in 2000.
Georgia was born to George and Jessie Beech Lowery in the rural area of Freestone in Sonoma county. her mother died when she was an infant, and she was adopted by was adopted by Joseph and Gertrude Wylie Borba.
She was a student at Freestone Elementary, Analy Union High School, and Burbank Business College. She married her husband, Rodney Miller, Nov. 19, 1933, and the couple owned and operated Miller's Trucking Service in Sebastopol for 30 years, where Georgia was a bookkeeper before retiring.
Georgia is remembered as a kind, considerate person, who loved flowers. She made the best clam chowder in Sonoma County.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Dusty Veale, of Yreka; a son, Bill Miller; granddaughters, Suzie Fernandez, Jodie Rettinhouse and Jennifer Meads; and great-grandchildren Eric and Jenna Fernandez, and Miley, Sophie and Emma Meads.
She was predeceased by her husband.
Marjorie Jo Ann Curry
Marjorie Jo Ann Curry passed away Jan. 4, 2005, in Yreka.
She was born Dec. 24, 1927, in Illinois, one of five children.
The family moved to Southern California in the late-1960s, where she and her husband, Ted, worked until his retirement in 1974. The couple moved to Lake Havasu, Ariz.
She lived there for many years. Following the death of her husband, Ted, in August 1981, she met Jim Butterfield, and they spent many happy years together. Following Jim's death, she came to live in Yreka to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Georgi and Jim Blanchard.
In addition to the Blanchards, survivors include her grandson, John, and his wife, Trina; and great-grandchildren, Quaid, Kayla and DJ.
Ted and Marjy enjoyed their retirement in Arizona with fishing, boating and golfing. Marjy liked to dance, and often provided buffets for organizations to which she belonged, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the BPO Elks Lodge.
While residing in Yreka, Marjy sat outside in the sunshine for hours while visiting with her neighbors, often feeding birds, squirrels and any other stray animals that came along.
A memorial services is 3 p.m., Jan. 16, 2005 at the Methodist Church, followed by a reception and buffet for family and friends at the Blanchard home.
