George Calvin Booth
Santa Rosa, Calif. - Beloved father, entertainer and well known local radio personality George Calvin Booth passed away Aug. 17, 2008 in Santa Rosa, Calif. He was 55 years old. His remains were cremated on Aug. 18, 2008.
He died peacefully following a short illness from complications of undiagnosed and untreated diabetes.
George was born in Kitsap County on Sept. 30, 1952 and grew up in Bremerton, Wash. George attended schools in the Washington State, Kitsap County area and received a communications degree from Washington College. He was very involved in theatre in Kitsap County as well as the SPAC theatre in Siskiyou County.
George is best known in Siskiyou County for his Morning Radio Show on KYRE – FM from the 1980s through the 1990s and worked with Kevin Sponsler at KSYC – FM. George devoted his time to many service and community groups in Siskiyou County on the radio to the betterment of all. In later years, he volunteered his services to those in need and was working successfully at the Redwood Mission in Santa Rosa as a counselor.
He is survived by a son, Alex Marlatt of Dunsmuir, and a daughter, Cassia, who resides in Washington. He is also survived by sisters, Pam Stewart and Denise Booth and his parents, George and Ethyl, all residing in Washington.
A service is being planned by friends of George and will be announced at a later date.
Michael Stanislaus Neel
Etna, Calif. - Michael Stanislaus Neel passed away on Aug. 11, 2008 from natural causes. He was 34 years old.
Mike is survived by his parents, Larry and Kathy Neel of Etna, and his sister, Karlyn Neel of Oakland, Calif.
A lifelong resident of Etna, Mike was born on June 8, 1974 and he graduated from Etna High School in 1992.
He leaves behind a large circle of close friends who shared his love of the outdoors with him.
Mike Neel was noted for his athletic abilities and his love of extreme sports. Mike was a big, graceful, agile man who loved to defy gravity.
Snowboarding and fishing were his most preferred sports along with skateboarding, motocross and mountain biking. He could be found at any mountain lake in summer and any challenging snow-topped mountain in winter. He jumped at any opportunity to fly and there was nothing he wouldn’t jump off of to ‘get air’. He loved adventure.
Mike lived in Bend, Ore. for a few years. He was a professional snowboarder in the early days of the sport and rode for K2, who provided him with free snowboards and paid him to play. He worked in the hospitality industry in Bend and became an accomplished cook. He loved to eat and to prepare food for his friends and family. He was currently employed in Etna in construction, a trade he learned from his father.
Mike Neel was sincere, soft-spoken and gentle. He was never without a smile on his face and he loved to keep smiles on everyone else’s faces too. He followed his own path and if there was a trail, he left it to explore more interesting terrain. He will be missed by many.
A celebration of his life was held on Sunday on one of his favorite mountaintops.

Kohlie Doris Crawford
Klamath River, Calif. - Kohlie Doris Crawford age 4, of Klamath River passed away peacefully at home with her family on July 16, 2008 after a long battle with cancer.
Kohlie was born on April 25, 2004. She has spent her short life enjoying her happy riverside household or in Palo Alto at Lucile Packard Childrens Hospital where she endured and conquered many treatments to fight her illness.
Kohlie is survived by her parents, Cade and Angela Crawford; her siblings, Cyrus, Treva, Katreese and Clarabella; her grandparents, Mark and Sherry Crawford of Seiad Valley and Jeff and Shirley Peck of Forest City, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 19 at the Yreka High School Boys Gym, 431 Knapp St, Yreka, Calif.
Internment in Fort Jones Cemetery
will be immediately after, followed by a lunch reception at the Yreka High School cafeteria.
Christopher Robin Gould
Klawock, Alaska - Christopher Robin Gould, 33 years of age, died on July 19, 2008 in Klawock, Alaska in a tragic accident at Viking Lumber Mill, where he worked.
Christopher was born in Ashland, Ore. on July 26,1974. He lived and went to schools in Happy Camp, Etna and Medford. He moved to Thorne Bay, Alaska in 1987 and resided there on the Prince of Wales Island.
He fell in love with Alaska and considered it home, but never forgot his roots in Northern California from Happy Camp to Fort Jones. He was a mountain man and his passions were in fishing, hunting and logging. Most of all he was a man who had the biggest heart and a tender soul. He’d give you hell but the moment he felt he really hurt your feelings he would melt and try anything to make you feel better.
He was a loving son, a proud father, an adored big brother, a caring nephew, a good cousin and a dear friend. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Those of us who mourn his loss can rest assured he smiles down on us from above along with his grandfather, his uncles, Billy and Larry, and his cousin, John.
Chris is survived by his father, James Gould; mother, Arminthia Rennert; stepson, Tyrell Williams; siblings, Kelly Gould, Dylan Wright, Jamie Wright, Lindsey Wright and Shelby Schultz; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be a potluck memorial held at the Fort Jones Community Center at 2 p.m. on Oct. 4, 2008. Please join us as we come together to share stories and celebrate Chris’s life.
Jack Faulkner
Newport Beach - Jack Faulkner, a longtime executive with the St. Louis Rams going back to the franchise’s days in Southern California, died Sunday night at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, the Rams announced. He was 82.
The cause of death was not disclosed, but Faulkner, most recently the Rams’ administrator for pro personnel and working out of his office in Orange County, had been in failing health for some time.
“I can’t overstate the significance he played in the history of the Rams,” said Rams owner Chip Rosenbloom. “We lost really one of the great connections to our past.”
Faulkner joined the Rams in 1955 under first-year coach Sid Gillman and was associated with the team for 43 of the 53 years he worked in pro football. He was one of the few remaining people to have worked as a coach in both the American Football League and the National Football League before the leagues merged in 1970.
A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Jack Taylor Faulkner served in the Marines during World War II and played his college football at Miami University in Ohio. He began his coaching career in 1949 at the University of Cincinnati under head coach Gillman.
Faulkner followed Gillman to the Los Angeles Chargers in the early 1960s on a coaching staff that also included future Raiders owner Al Davis and future Pittsburgh Steelers coach Chuck Noll. When the team moved to San Diego, Faulkner went with them, coaching the defensive backs.
Faulkner became the Denver Broncos’ coach and general manager in 1962 and was honored as AFL coach of the year after leading the financially strapped franchise to a 7-7 record.
He worked as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints before rejoining the Rams in 1971 as a professional and college scout. He served as offensive backfield coach for the 1979 season, helping the Rams reach their first Super Bowl, which they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 1980, he was appointed assistant general manager of the Rams. He was one of few employees to stay in California when the team relocated to St. Louis in 1995.
Faulkner is survived by his wife, Debbie, three sons and a daughter.

Charles W. Seaver
Etna, Calif. - Charles W. Seaver passed away at home in Etna, Calif. on Oct. 3, 2008 after fighting a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Born in Webb, Ariz. on Dec 21, 1919, he grew up in a small town where he met and married Ora Jean. They moved to Scott Valley in 1944 and enjoyed a lifelong love of the valley and the people who live here.
Charles loved the land and was an innovative farmer who was always trying the newest techniques and equipment and was one of the hardest workers you could know.
Charles loved motorcycles and bought one the first month he married, and has never been without one.
Charles and Ora enjoyed flying their own plane and he flew many mercy flights in the 1950s and helped organize the first air-patrol in Scott Valley and was a founding member of the Scott Valley Airmen’s.
He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many positions, always willing to help others. Ora died in 2003 and one year later Charles married Ora’s younger sister, Earline.
He is survived by his wife, Earline of Fallon, Nev.; his brother, Vernon Seaver of Lehi, Utah; a sister, Violet Mills of Portland, Ore.; and children, Victor Seaver of Etna, Diane Henry of Rosalia, Wash., Terry Seaver of Pleasanton, Calif., Christine Kramer of Waldport, Ore. and Crynthia Palmer of Mesa, Ariz.; their spouses; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and lifelong friends.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Madrone Hospice for the wonderful, tender care they have given.
All are invited to funeral services that will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Etna with the burial immediately following in Etna Cemetery.
Thomas “Tom” S. Cavener
Dorris, Calif. - Longtime Dorris resident Thomas “Tom” S. Cavener went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 with his family at his side. He was 89. Tom was born on Oct. 7, 1919, in Rome, Ga. to Thomas P. and Mabel (Tippin) Cavener. He grew up there until entering the U.S. Army at the age of 16. Tom served in Hawaii until being honorably discharged and coming to the Red Rock Valley, Calif. There he met Vera Parsons. The two were married on July 23, 1939 on her parents’ ranch. They moved to Dorris in the early 1940s where they began farming, raising small grains, sought-after alfalfa and some livestock. Tom was a very meticulous grower. Dairy cows and horses preferred the quality of the alfalfa he raised. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Butte Valley Soil Conservation District. Tom was active in the Shasta View Nazarene Church including being a Sunday school teacher, music leader and board member. He assisted in the construction of the Nazarene Church in Klamath Falls. Tom was a loving provider for his family and will be missed greatly. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Vera of Dorris; sons and their wives, James and Judith Cavener of Yreka, Gary and Diane Cavener of Oregon City, Ore. and Douglas and Lan Cavener of State College, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and his brother, Harold Cavener of Paul, Idaho. Tom was preceded in death by his sons, David Cavener and Thomas Cavener, Jr.; sisters, Nine Mae Barnett, Mary Craddock and Ruth Parsons; and brothers, Paul and Victor Cavener. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at the Shasta View Church of the Nazarene in Dorris with Pastor Harold Brimmer officiating. There will be a viewing before the service, at the church, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery

Helene Isano Geyer
Yreka, Calif. - Helene Isano Geyer, age 88, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 2, 2008 at Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka. She was born Isano Mukai on May 22, 1920 in Florin (Sacramento), Calif. to parents Sannosuke and Suyeno Mukai. She had five siblings; Mitsue, Fumie, Shizuka, Frank and Tom. Helene went to Sacramento State College where she obtained her registered nursing certificate. She then worked for the U.S. Government hospital in Japan for two years. She continued working at hospitals in the Sacramento area upon her return. She enjoyed traveling and took several bus tours around the country. Helene recently moved up to Yreka, Meadowlark Assisted Living Community, to be closer with her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Nicole Geyer. It was a hard transition for her after living in Sacramento her entire life, but she made the best of it. She was very active in all the activities at Meadowlark; she would always be one of the first to sign up for an outing and also enjoyed playing piano. She was an avid baseball fan and would watch any game that was on TV. She was fond of playing bridge and even started a bridge club at Meadowlark. She loved to go for scenic drives around the county and appreciated waking up each morning and seeing the beautiful Mt. Shasta out her apartment window. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank and Tom, and sisters, Mitsue, Fumie and Shizuka. She is survived by her son, Jack; daughter-in-law, Nicole; three grandchildren, Sean, Sarah and Stephen; two sister-in-laws; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life is scheduled at her most recent residence, Meadowlark, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009. As per Helene’s wishes, a private (immediate family only) final inurnment memorial service will take place in May, the month of her birthday, at East Lawn Memorial Park. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Christina Foster
Chico, Calif. - Christina Nicole Foster, aged 24 years, passed away peacefully at her home with her family surrounding her on Sept. 12, 2008.
She battled cancer for three years, enjoying mostly robust health and a full active life, despite a regime of aggressive treatments. She kept a very positive, upbeat attitude toward her illness, and her family feels that greatly contributed to her prolonged victory over her illness.
She was enrolled in the nursing program at Chico State until her schedule of medical treatments forced her to quit. She remained an enthusiastic cheerleader for her fellow nursing students and offered moral support through graduation in May of this year.
Between trips to Stanford Cancer Research she enjoyed becoming a gourmet cook, raising labrador puppies, trips with Kerry and her parents, family events and most of all her faith and extended spiritual family that offered much support through this experience.
When treatments were no longer helping, and complications set in, she endured rapid decline these last few months.
Christina is survived by her husband, Kerry Foster of Durham, Calif.; her parents, Nels and Candy Leen of Chico, Calif.; brother, Casey Leen of Durham, Calif.; parents-in-law, Joe and Kim Foster of Yreka; “brothers” and new “sisters,” Rob and Amy, Breck and Britna and Ted Foster.
She will also be missed by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and innumerable friends.
Christina graduated from Chico High School in 2002 and married Kerry Foster on Sept 27, 2003.
A memorial service will be held at the Chico High School Gymnasium at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept 20. Burial and a luncheon will immediately follow.

Patricia A. Westfall
Yreka, Calif. - On Dec. 17, 2008, my closest friend, lover and bride passed on from this world. One always thinks there is more time but that was not to be. After too short a life, but too long a struggle, Patricia A. Westfall died as the result of a massive stroke. Pat, as she preferred to be called, was born on March 26, 1950 to Earl and Maxine McQuigg in Medford, Ore. She was raised in Medford until the family moved to Yreka, Calif., in 1966. Here, she finished high school in 1968 and continued on to college at Chico State University in California. This is where I met her in the spring of 1970. We began married life in 1972. We traveled to New Port, R.I.; Port Hueneme, Calif.; Adak, Alaska and finally to Lemoore, Calif. courtesy of the U.S. Navy. It was a time of growing up and togetherness. Our only child, Cora, was born in May of 1976 and shortly thereafter we left the Navy. We spent the next years doing what married couples do. We worked, we moved and we made great friends. Our lives changed drastically in August 1987 when Pat was diagnosed with breast cancer and again in October 1988 when it had metastasized. The struggle to defeat cancer was won in 1992, when she was declared cancer free. During this five year period, Pat demonstrated inner strength and courage that is rarely seen and at which I still marvel today. In 2000, however, Pat began experiencing short-term memory problems and eventually began having TIAs. The suspected cause was the severe chemotherapy and radiation which had been necessary to cure her cancer. Her health continued to decline until Dec. 17, 2008 when she passed at home with Cora and me at her side. Her last two years were filled with playing bridge, a skill which was not affected by her declining condition and adventures with the Red Hat Society. After 37 years of marriage, “Goodbye and I love you” do not seem adequate. Pat was predeceased by her father, Earl McQuigg; her mother, Maxine McQuigg; and her brother, Jack McQuigg. She is survived by her husband, Lothar Westfall; her daughter, Cora Versaggi; grandchildren, Vincent and Annabella Versaggi; and her brother Gene McQuigg. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the Fireside Room at the Marin Valley Mobile Country Club House on 100 Marin Valley Dr. in Novato, Calif. 94949.
