Noboru Takahashi died Oct. 2, 2010. He was born Dec. 18, 1937, to Kanichi Frank Takahashi and Shizu Takahashi (nee Mizuhara) in Sacramento. In 1955, Takahashi graduated from Winters High School, where he was active in sports including baseball, football and basketball. He was the Block W president his junior year and was a member of CSF.
Takahashi and his family were interned in Amachi, Colo., during WWII. He attended UC Davis and San Jose State University. He served in the U.S. Army for six years; he was assigned to the 2nd Armored Division in Fort Hood, Texas, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant (E5) in April 1965. He worked for Aerojet, a major rocket and missile propulsion company, for 44 years before retiring as a senior quality assurance engineer in 2005.
Some of his favorite pastimes included gambling, collecting casino chips and fishing in the San Francisco Bay. He built a duplex on 21st Avenue in Sacramento and lived there until 1983. He enjoyed frequenting local church bazaars and catching up with old friends. He and his wife were often seen cheering for the Sacramento Kings at Arco Arena. He also enjoyed a good prime rib at the Buggy Whip or the Buckhorn restaurant.
Takahashi is survived by his wife, Fusako Ide Takahashi, his sister Yasuko Takahashi, brother-in-law Sokichi Abe, and nephew Christopher J. Abe.
A graveside service took place Oct. 14 at Winters Cemetery
followed by a reception at the Buckhorn restaurant.
A 49th day memorial service is planned at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Sacramento Buddhist Church, 2401 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento.
Timothy Victor Kehoe, 56, of Winters died suddenly on Oct. 12, 2010, of a heart attack and complications from diabetes. He was a native of Long Island, N.Y., where he developed his lifelong passion for fishing and water sports. He was the youngest of six children and the only boy. He often said that he was the only kid on the block with six mothers.
He was a dog enthusiast who loved three black Labradors: Samantha Valentine, Mr. Blue and Mr. Wilson, as well as a foxhound, Skinny McGee. He was a master electrician and stationary engineer. He had an inspired ability for solving mechanical problems and spent much of his career maintaining industrial equipment in New York, Ohio and California.
He earned an associate’s degree from Solano Community College and completed coursework at California State University Sacramento. He was an English major with a talent for computers and desktop publishing, assisting with the editing and design of a number of chapbooks for Swan Scythe Press.
Although he lived for a time in Sacramento and Davis, he felt most at home in Winters, where he lived for 10 years. He recently celebrated his 24th anniversary of sobriety. He sponsored dozens of people, provided assistance and support to others, and volunteered for many service positions.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Max and Maggie Jacobs of San Francisco and Santa Rosa; former partner, Carol Brydolf; siblings, Judith and Paul Martin of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Sandra Strauber of Myrtle Beach, David and Janna Gies of Charlottesville, Va., Nancy Kehoe of Walnut Creek and Ellen Batterton of Ithaca, N.Y.
He was uncle and great uncle to Marc, Julie, Nicholas, Mitchell and Kelsey Weisbrod of Antioch, Christopher Strauber of Boston, Dave and Jennifer Patterson Weisbrod of Antioch, and Beth, Sean and Patrick O’ Neill of Freeville, N.Y.; and an especially dear cousin, Barbara Ready-Vakeva of Helsinki, Finland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice Kehoe, sister Mary Jo Gies and brothers-in-law Robert Strauber and Gregory Batterton.
Funeral services were held at St. Anthony Parish Hall at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial donations go to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, www.jdrf.org.
Ruth Janette Farnham died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Alderson Convalescent Hospital in Woodland. She was 74. Born March 3, 1936, to Martin and Frieda (Storz) Herzig in Woodland, where she grew up and attended area schools, she graduated from Esparto High School’s class of 1954 and attended cosmetology school.
A longtime member of Guinda Methodist Church, she is survived by her daughters, Karen Reeves, Sharon Farnham, and Susan Reyes and husband Martin all of Brooks; her sons, Mike Farnham and wife Faye of Sacramento, and Steve Farnham and wife Penny of Capay; sisters, Betty Colby of Reno, Nev., and Donna Bridges of Corning; as well as eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Noah Leland Farnham.
Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Reyes Ranch, 18063 County Road 70 in Brooks. The family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Brooks Fire Department in her memory. Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Lugardo Toro died on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at Emerald Gardens Convalescent Hospital in Sacramento. He was 78. Born April 24, 1923, in Mexico to Jose and Margarita (Del Toro) Toro, he was employed within Yolo County area agriculture for the past 47 years as a laborer.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margarita Del Toro of Sacramento; daughters,
Ermelinda Del Toro and husband Manuel, and Elvira Del Toro and husband Florentino, all of Mexico, and Ana Del Toro and husband Martin of Sacramento; sons, Efren Del Toro and wife Sherry, Salomon Del Toro and wife Ana, and Rodrigo Del Toro and wife Hilda, all of Winters; and Rafael Del Toro and wife Maria of Marysville; sister Antonia Toro of Mexico; 43 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Evangelina Del Toro and his son Ismael Del Toro.
Visitation took place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, with Mass at noon at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 511 Main St., Winters. Internment followed services at the Winters Cemetery, 415 Cemetery
Drive, Winters.

Marylou Judy, a well known elementary school teacher, passed away on Sept. 21, 2010, at the age of 101.
She specialized in teaching reading techniques and retired from the Sacramento School District in 1970. Born in 1909 in Mason City, Iowa, Marylou Craven Judy grew up in Boise, Idaho, and graduated from the University of Idaho in Moscow where she majored in music. It was at the University of Idaho that she met her future husband, Frank Judy. After their marriage, they moved to Winters and later to Walnut Grove and finally to Sacramento where they made their home for more than 60 years. Frank Judy passed away in 1981. Marylou Judy was an active member of the Phi Beta Phi Alumni Association.
Notably, her father-in-law, D.O. Judy planted the palm tree at Railroad Avenue and Main Street in Winters.
An avid reader who loved to travel and garden, Marylou Judy is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Deaver of Washington D.C., and Francia Davis and David Judy, both of Sacramento, in addition to six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Family members said she was a wonderful wife, teacher, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be missed very much.

Miguel Moreno Franco passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Woodland Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Born on Sept. 26, 1920, in Moroleon, Guanajuato, to Lucas and Felicitas Franco, he was 90.
He was a loving and caring father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed family gatherings and always made visitors feel welcome at his house.
He is survived by his sons Jaime (Ilda) and Pedro (Concepcion), and daughters Bertha (Uriel) Huizar and Teresita (Gerardo) Garcia; grandchildren, Erika Padilla, Veronica Hernandez, Jaime Franco, Oscar, Cesar and Karina Franco, Jorge, Alex and Eduardo Huizar and Natalie Garcia; great-grandchildren, Dezireé, Roger and Richard Padilla and Maximiliano Hernandez; brothers Ramon of Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico, Jose of Winters and sister Guadalupe of Richmond.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Natividad Franco, sister Natalia, brothers Socorro and Gilberto, and just recently, close friend Vicenta Rodriguez.
A Rosary will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. and a funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, Dec. 15, followed by burial services at the Winters Cemetery. Father Humberto Gomez of Vacaville will be officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Wiscombe Funeral Home.
August Peter Gonnella died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at age 85. He was born June 11, 1925, to Pompeo and Pilmira Gonnella in Occidental.
Gonnella is survived by his wife of 61 years, Julia Gonnella; children Jimmy Gonnella of Santa Rosa, Ronnie Gonnella of Winters; Augie Gonnella of Winters; Gloria Foster of Lodi, Judy Jeffery of Vacaville and Diana Carner of Winters; daughters-in-law Nancey Gonnella and Ashley Jeffery; sons-in-law Richard Carner and Gary Foster; and the late Betty Gonnella. He had 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Gonnella had a love for his work. In the early years, he worked at Travis airbase. He retired from the Carpenter’s Union, but his greatest love was his masonry work and all the love from his family and friends. “We will miss him,” family members said.
Martha Mary Johnson passed away on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at age 87. She was born on May 22, 1923, and raised in Winters, where she met and married her husband of 65 years, Herbert Johnson, and where together they raised their family.
Over the years, she was employed as a bookkeeper for various Winters-based businesses, the last of which was Valley Almond Growers and, after many years of service, she retired. Martha spent her remaining years enjoying her family and their frequent camping trips.
Martha is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, LeRoy and Debra Johnson; grandson Scott Johnson, granddaughter Kimberli Quam and her husband Brent; and great-grandson Tyler Cassidy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert and daughter Darlene Newmann.
Private family services will be held on Friday, Dec. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Wiscombe Funeral Home in Winters. Interment will be in Winters Cemetery.
Oneonta “Onie” Arnim Hailey, 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the South Sacramento Kaiser Permanente Hospital in the presence of her son Bill and daughter-in-law Shirlee.
She was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Feb. 14, 1911, the youngest of three sisters born to Meta and Frank Arnim. Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Colorado Springs, Colo., where she grew up and attended the local schools.
After leaving high school, she became a telephone operator. In 1932,, she met Cord Hailey and on June 6, 1933, they married at Castle Rocks, Colo. During the same year, they relocated to San Francisco, where Onie worked for the San Francisco Chronicle in the circulation department.
In 1934, Cord joined PG&E, which started a period of residential relocations in the high Sierra Nevada at hydroelectric power plants. These years in the Sierra were some of the happiest for Onie. Her two sons, Bill born in 1941 and Carl born in 1943, give her the full time job of mom and homemaker.
In 1950, Cord transferred to Winters as the local manager for PG&E until retiring in 1972. Onie was a homemaker through the 1950s and ’60s. A close friend talked Onie into joining her and local pharmacist Rod Baker in opening the Ju-De Gift Shop on Main Street, next to Day’s Pharmacy.
Onie excelled at purchasing gift merchandise for the store and loved the interaction with local residents, especially children. She retired in the late ’80s when Rod sold the store. During the later years of their marriage, Onie and Cord traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1995 at the age of 86; sisters Nona and Nita; and her parents.
She leaves behind her son Bill, daughter-in-law Shirlee, son Carl, daughter-in-law Ginny and granddaughter Grace.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Onie’s life with graveside services at the Winters Cemetery, 415 Cemetery
Drive, off of Grant Avenue, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, with a reception following at St. Anthony Parish Hall, 511 Main St.
