MURPHY, WILLIAM BURTON In Sacramento on November 3, 2001 at the age of 66. Retired carpenter of local #586. Preceded in death by a daughter Cindy Murphy. Beloved husband of 25 years to Barbara Murphy; sons Gordon Murphy, Robert and Steven Williams; daughters Anita Allen, Lisa Wilson, Carolyn Pidgeon; brothers Curt and Jerry; sisters Elva, Jeannie and Verna; grandchildren Tanya Dionne, Rachel Daughtry, Kandis & Kristine Lester, William Shay Murphy, Sandra, Aileen, and Michael Pidgeon and Nicole Williams. NICHOLAS, MARGIE R. Passed away peacefully on November 6, 2001 after a sudden illness at age 76. She was the beloved wife of Lewis Nicholas for 58 years. She worked by his side in their family owned floor covering business for 45 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was deeply devoted to her family. She was a talented crafter and gave much joy to her family with her beautiful gifts. She is survived by seven children: Sherry McCall, Santa Rosa, CA; Steve Nicholas (Joann), Gilroy, CA; Lyle Nicholas (Theresa), El Dorado Hill CA; Ann Small (Jim) Mill Valley, CA; Tawna Cooley, Mill Valley, CA; Reed Nicholas (Julie) Doncaster, England; and Lane Nicholas (Pam), Sacramento, CA. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. There will be a private internment on Friday, November 8, 2001. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Margie's life at her home on Saturday, November 9, 2001 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

OAKES, ROSARIA VENEZIA Passed away on November 5, 2001 at the age of 91. Born in Sacramento on November 2, 1910. Loving mother of Rose Weymouth and Anthony Muchetto. Dearly beloved grandmother of Valerie Hilton and great-grandmother to Kori, William, and Douglas Hilton. Rosaria was like a mother to her granddaughter Valerie and was an important part of her life. Rosaria was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Oakes, her brother, Cy Venezia, and her sister, Rosale Click. Rosaria worked for Libby McNeil and Libby Cannery for 25 years as a canner and supervisor, She was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #9. Rosaria loved to dance and was a member of the Sacramento Senior's Club where she attended dances on Sunday afternoons. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Saturday, November 10th, and Sunday, November 11th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at ANDREWS & GREILICH MORTUARY , 3939 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento, and the Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 12, 2001 at 2:00 PM at EAST LAWN MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL , 43rd and Folsom Blvd., Sacramento. OHTA, KATHERINE Age 63 years, of Acampo, Ca., passed away in Lodi, Ca. on November 4, 2001. She was born in Stockton, and resided in Acampo all her life. She graduated from Lodi High School and was married to Kenny Ohta on December 8, 1958. She was employed by Supermold of Lodi for 15 years, and later for Interlake Inc as a payroll clerk for 23 years. She was a member of Lodi Buddhist Church, Lodi Womens Club, and a former advisor for the Young Buddhist Association. She loved watching her sons participate in sports, being with her grandchildren, watching bowling, and her trips to Lake Tahoe, Reno, and Jackson. Survived by her husband, Kenny Ohta of Acampo; sons, Gordon of Sacramento, Richard of Galt, and Ronald of Elk Grove; also 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Seiichi and Kiyono Masui; and a brother, Tadao Masui. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 11th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Lodi Buddhist Church, 23 N. PAPE, ALBERT Passed away in Sacramento, November 6, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Age 84. Dearly beloved husband for 60 years of Florence Todd Pape, loving father of Karl D. Pape and wife, Becky of Seattle, WA and Craig G. Pape of Sacramento. Brother of Lois Hunt and husband Wilfred of Carmichael, and nephew, Robert Wilfred Hunt, and wife Lisa. Cousin Charlotte Ann Zach and husband, Joseph Zach of Santa Rosa, daughters, Sarah and Julie. Attended Sacramento High School class of '35. Sacramento City College and Sacramento State University. He was active in the Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout Rank and Order of the Arrow, a camp counselor and adult scout leader in Troop 21. Participated in the family business until called into WWII as a pilot instructor in the Air Force Training Command. For 17 months flew missions in the Koreon Affair. After his military service he reestablished his painting business but continued his love for flying. He was a member and served as deacon and elder in Fremont Presbyterian Church, belonged to  Washington F & A Massons and Ben Ali Shrine, member of Sigma Alpa Epsilon fraternity. Private graveside service to be held at East Lawn Memorial Park at 43rd & Folsom Blvd, 2 PM, Monday November 12, 2001 for family and close friends. PETTUS, PAULINE Pauline was a long time resident of Orangevale. She was born in  Oklahoma on December 14, 1928. She retired as a Nurse's Assistant at Roseville Hospital where she worked for many years. She suffered a stroke and passed away November 2, 2001 at the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Etta DeHart, and brothers, R.W. and Bentley. She is survived by many loving family members and long time friends. She was the Mother of Ronald, her only child, Grandma to Paula and Danny, and "her most favorite roll of all" was being Gigi to her treasured Great-grandchildren, Krista and Braeden, Sister to her twin brother, Paul, and Aunt Pauline to many nieces and nephews. POLLAND, ANNE M. A memorial celebration of the life of Anne Marie Polland is set for Sunday, Nov. 11, in San Francisco. The celebration will be held at 7 p.m. at the American Conservatory Theatre, 415 Geary St., San Francisco. Ms. Polland, 54, died Nov. 1 in her home in Fairfax, CA. As the business agent for both the Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts union, Local 16, as well as the Theatrical Wardrobe Union, Local 784, she had worked for 30 years in the Bay area in costume and wardrobe for theater, film and Industrial Light & Magic in San Rafael. She is survived by her sister, Melinda Annis, of Sacramento, CA., her brothers Mark Polland of Rescue, CA., and Greg Polland of  Louisiana, by nieces Carly Polland, Heather Polland and Casey Polland, by nephews Toby Annis and Derek Polland, and by sisters-in-law Kathy Polland and Jan Haag. Her parents, Elizabeth and Clyde Polland, and two brothers, Leonard and Clifford Polland, preceded her in death. POPEK, JOSEPH JOHN Joseph John Popek, loving husband of Sophie for the past 59 years, devoted father of Tom and his wife Mary, Jerry and his wife Paulene, Marianne, and Beverly and her husband Mark, and adoring grandfather of Diana, Michael, Sarah, Darren, Paul, Christopher, Jeffrey, Jamie and Annie, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2001. Joseph, the son of the deceased Kathryn Potocki and John Popek, is formerly of New Jersey. For the past 13 years, he and Sophie have resided in Roseville. RANSOME, BERNARD "BARNEY" Age 87 passed away on October 31, 2001 in Auburn, California. He was born on July 2, 1914 in Plainfield, New Jersey to Wilford and Jessie Coit Ransome and was raised in Berkeley, California where he graduated from Berkeley High School in 1931 and from the University of California at Berkeley in 1935. He became a physical education teacher and began his career in Elk Grove. He also taught in Martinez and later moved to Roseville, California where he taught at Roseville High from 1947 until he retired in 1979. He was Athletic Director and coached football, basketball, baseball and golf. He enjoyed sports as a participant, coach and spectator. Reading, gardening, golfing and cooking were his favorite leisure activities. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie Steiner Ransome and his second wife, Betty Cornelius Ransome. He is survived by his two children John Coit Ransome and Catherine Ransome Eklund, his daughter-in-law Judi Ransome, son-in-law Daryl Eklund and three grandchildren, Kaelin Ransome, and Katherine and Eric Eklund. The family extends an invitation to a celebration of Bernard's life on November 17, 2001 from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Roseville Art Center at 424 Oak Street, Roseville, California. ROBBINS, RICHARD Passed away November 7, 2001. Survived by his daughter, Amy Robbins. Mother, Jeanne Robbins, Brother, Robert Robbins, Sister, Kathleen Wilt. Earl was a life long resident of Sacramento, aged 81 years. His greatest joy in life was hunting and fishing. THOMSON, HAROLD A. Born 4-12-37, in Peoria, IL. Passed away 10-28-01 in Sacramento, CA. Retired from machinist union. Active in wildlife conservation and sportsmans organizations Life long love of family and the outdoors. Loving father of 6 children, Brenda, Carolyn, Dan, Steve, Brandon and Andy. He is also survived by his mother Anne, sisters Ben and Babe and the mothers of his 6 children, Karen and Janelle, as well as 10 grandchildren. To say he will be greatly missed by friends and family is an understatement. Services will be held at St. Charles Church at 1 PM , Mon. 11-12-01, at 7584 Center Parkway, Sacramento, CA.

TODD, MICHAEL E. Passed November 4, 2001 at home in Carmichael of prostate cancer age 57. Mike was a respected lawyer and practiced law in Sacramento for the past 16 yrs. Mike graduated from Aldelphi University in New York and Mc George School of law. Mike worked for the past 10 yrs as in-house counsel for Nationwide Ins. Group. Mike was born & raised in Long Island, NY. & moved to California in 1973. He is survived by his beloved daughter Sarah Jean; wife Donna, former spouse Deanna Todd, and sister Ginny Todd of NY. Preceded in death by his mother & father, Virginia Fraites Todd and Edward Todd of NY. Mike served in the U.S. NAVY during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Salamonie. Mike will forever be missed by his friends Paul Ryan, Bill Seabridge, Rigo Herrera, Duncan Simmons, Richard & Susan Hammer, Marilyn Rea, Jesse Rivera, Jeffrey Bowden, Carole Paddelford, Matilda Rao, & Mike's grade school pal, Joe Olt. WONG, DON YIU Age 86, passed away on November 7, 2001. Born July 15, 1915 in Toishan, China. He left a successful accounting career in Hong Kong and journeyed with his wife, King Chun, to the United States in 1956 to provide his family an opportunity to the American Dream. He was a hard worker, a self-taught carpenter, and the best at his trade. He was anaccomplished and published writer of Chinese poetry and literature. He will be remembered by his daughter Lily and her husband Phillip Yee; daughter Tuen; sons William and Jackson; son Samuel and his wife Jan; ten grandchildren; two grandsons-in-law, four great grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. All are welcome for visitation Monday, November 12th at 6:00 pm, and funeral service Tuesday, November 13th at 1:00 pm, at Klumpp's Chapel 2691 Riverside Blvd. Internment at East Lawn Cemetery. WOOD, EDITH D. Passed away on November 5, 2001. She reached her 100th year. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on December 20, 2001. She was born in Noel, Missouri, a small village near Joplin. She was the second daughter in a family of five daughters. She married Elvin E. Wood August 23, 1920 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She and Elvin farmed in the Paloose Country in Eastern  Washington and Western Idaho. They moved to California in 1957 and settled in Roseville. She was preceded in death by Elvin in 1971. Edith was a long standing member of the First Presbyterian Church of Roseville and was very active in the Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the Republican Women's Club in Roseville. A long term gardener her family swore she had a green thumb. She was also an accomplished seamstress. Edith was soft-spoken and hard-working. She was revered by her family and friends. She was truly a family treasure and will be greatly missed. She had a positive, cheerful influence on others. She is survived by her four children, Jack C. Wood of Orangevale, CA, Lee and Helen Wood of San Jose, CA Jean and Dave Beal of Eugene, OR, and Neal and Beverley Wood of Newport, WA. She is also survived by 2 of her sisters, Eveline Brown of Pullman, WA, and Doris Splichel of Cheney, WA. She has 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. The service will be Friday, November 9, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Cochrane's Chapel of the Roses on Lincoln Street, in Roseville. Interment will be at Roseville District Cemetery following the service.

AMEY, THOMAS (TOM) Born May 7, 1963 in Sacramento. Passed away quietly in his sleep November 5th, 2001 at his home in Rio Linda. In addition to his passion for karaoke, Tom loved gardening, hunting, family and a good joke. Tom was a hard and diligent worker for Pioneer Feed and valued member of Loretto High School's plant management team. Leaving to mourn, Tom's son, Ronnie, loving girl friend, Virgina (Gigi) Prendable and her son, Tim, Mother, Marilyn Roberts and Father, Charles J. Amey, Grandmother, Lee Patterson and siblings Kevin, Carrie, Colleen, Brian, Shon. Tom was the friend of many and the enemy of none. Many have been blessed to be touched by Tom's life and childlike heart. AUTRAND, NICK In Sacramento, age 46. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Autrand, his beloved children, Jesus Franco, Albert Franco and wife, Jennifer Ward, Nick Autrand Jr., Emmit Autrand and wife, Danielle Keffer and Alex Autrand. Four cherished grandchildren, Khryssy, Jessica, Albert Jr., and Carlos. Also survived by his parents, Conception and Donald Autrand, one brother, Donald Autrand Jr. Mr. Autrand worked for Campbell Soup for 15 years. Visitation will be Friday from 12 - 8 PM, a recertation of the rosary will be at 6 PM at Andrews & Greilich Mortuary, 3939 Fruitridge Rd. Funeral services will be Saturday at I0 AM at East Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 43rd & Folsom Blvd. Burial to follow.

BAYLOR, JAMES E. (JIM) Passed away on November 5, 2001 at the age of 63.
Beloved husband to Pamela; father to Michael, Kelly, Korry (Alan); cherished grandfather to Alan and Kaylee.
At his request there will be no services.

BUTLER, RAY Born Jacksonville, Florida on January 18, 1929. Passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 3, 2001, at age 72, after a courageous battle with cancer. His family surrounded him. He is survived by his loving wife Ree Butler; sister, Patti Page; children: Reverend Randall Butler and his wife Anne, Lisa Butler Brown and her husband Dave Brown, Kristi Visger and her husband George Visger, and Brian King; grandchildren: Kristin Brown, Andrew Brown, Sarah Butler, Emily Butler, Stefani Kester, Amanda Visger and Jack Visger. He is also survived by his former wife Elizabeth Butler. Ray served in the US Army during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in political science following which he created a successful career as an insurance executive that spanned almost 50 years. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 8, 2001, at 10:30 am at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church, 11427 Fair Oaks Boulevard. A reception will follow at Northridge Country Club. CAMPBELL, RONALD H. Entered into rest on Nov. 4, 2001 in Cortez, Colorado. Ron was born June 2, 1942 in San Rafael, CA & moved to Citrus Heights when he was 3 yrs old. He lived in Citrus Heights & Sacramento until 1979 when he moved his family to Colorado. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Jane & his parents John & Juanita Campbell of Roseville. Ron is survived by his sons Timothy (Brenda) Campbell of Cortez, CO; Paul (Tammy) Campbell of Peoria, AZ; sister Golda Campbell of Roseville, CA; 4 grandchildren Austin & Tanjie Campbell of Susanville, CA, Michael & Jennifer Thompson also of Susanville; Aunt Othella Marr of Los Lunas, NM; father-in-law Roy Ward of Citrus Heights, CA; sister-in-law Annette (Jim) Louch of Orangevale, CA, and many other relatives & friends. Sister of Mee Thiu Gee, Memei Yee, Terry Chang and Man Foo Chu. Grandmother of Joyce, Vivian and Steven Chan, Christine (husband Michael Ahn) and Brian Fong. A native of Canton, China aged 92 years. IN LOVING MEMORY OF COPELAND, THELMA Born July 12, 1900 in Beaver City, Nebraska. Passed away peacefully October 13, 2001 in Sacramento, California. She is survived by 2 children, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Many devoted and loyal friends also mourn her passing. Private services were held and she rests beside her husband Harold in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cypress, California.

COUCH, HARRY (DALE) Born November 16, 1937 and passed away in Salem, Oregon on November 3, 2001. As a long time educator Dale taught a variety of subjects in the public school system and junior colleges for 40 years. He completed his under graduate and graduate work through the University of Arizona and earned a double Masters degree in Library Science/Teaching and Reading. His most recent teaching assignment was at the Golden State Middle School in West Sacramento. Dale continued helping others after retiring from teaching and worked with the State Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board for 5 years. He was deeply involved throughout his life in his Parish as a Eucharistic minister, past parish council president, and as vice president of the Dignity Chapter of St. Francis Parish. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. His devoted companion Jim Hemminger of 18 years, and beloved sons Kevin, Brian and Martin Couch and his daughter Eileen Cramer, 17 grandchildren and friends of Bill W., survives him. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service remembering Dale that will be held at St. Francis Parish, 2529 K St., Sacramento, CA on November 8, 2001, at 3PM. DAVIS, DALE CARLIN Dale Carlin Davis was born in the Township of Belle Plain, Illinois on December 23, 1907 to the late Edgar and Rosetta Davis. He passed away in Carmichael, California on Monday November 5, 2001 at the age of 93. Dale was married to Bernice Arnold on January 1, 1930. There were four children born to this union, Wayne of Garden Valley, CA, Kenneth of Wingo, KY, Melvin of Spokane, WA and Verle of Havelock, NC. After the death of Bernice in 1983, he met and married Della Duckworth. They enjoyed over 17 years together before her passing in June 2001. In addition to his four sons, Dale leaves one sister, Rita Van Zuyen, of  Washington State, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, four step Children and many other relatives and friends. Dale worked for A Teichert and Sons Construction and retired after 50 years of service. Moreover, he made his choice to serve the Lord as a young man and remained faithful until his death. Friends are welcome to his visitation Thursday, November 8, 2001 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM and Funeral Services on Friday, November 9, 2001 at 10:00 AM both at SACRAMENTO GARDEN CHAPEL, 6100 Stockton Blvd. Interment: SACRAMENTO MEMORIAL LAWN.

DICKSON, WILLIAM HAROLD In Sacramento Nov. 5, 2001. A native of Sacramento for 87 years.
Mr. Dickson retired from the IRS in 1969 after 30 years of service.
Survived by his loving wife Della and many friends and relatives.
At his request, no services will be held.
