GRIFFIN R. CHRISTINE Went to be with our loving Lord on October 21, 2001. She was on the island of Antigua, West Indies. She was doing medical missionary work in the Catholic Church's St. Jude Hospital in View Fort with her devoted husband. Cherished wife of Walter " Doc" Griffin, beloved daughter of Consuelo and Adrian Rodriguez. Preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Renteria. Loving Aunt of Felicia and Ricardo Guzman. She is survived by sister Linda Guzman and by son Gary Griffin, daughter Linda Lybolt of Las Vegas, NV. She also leaves many loving cousins of the Macias and Santana- Montez Families. She will be greatly missed for her acts of love, kindness and spirited sense of humor. Memorial Services on Friday, November 2nd at 11:00 am. at St. Ignatius Church. 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento. HACKETT, THELMA MAE Passed away on October 30, 2001, at the age of 89. A current resident of Sacramento, CA. Thelma is preceded in death by her husband Neil Hackett; her parents Otto & Anna Hamann, & her brother Ed Hamann. Thelma was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church of Sacramento. HARLAN, MARILYN K. Age 69, passed away at her home in Carmichael on October. 26, 2001. She is survived by her children, Susan C. Harlan, Patricia A. Harlan, Robert R. Harlan Jr., son-in-law Cal Johnson, sister Lila Thaden, niece Julie Scott and nephew Michael Thaden. Marilyn truly loved life to the fullest even during her very debilitating illness. The light of her life has gone to be enjoyed by her heavenly Father. Her special sparkle will be greatly missed--yet our hearts will burn brightly forever with her memory. HUNT SR., DARREL RAY Born November 9, 1953 in Sacramento. Passed away at home on October 29, 2001. Loving husband of Gail and beloved father of Darrel and Cassandra. Loving son of Margie Ogden and the late Lloyd Hunt, and loving brother to Dean Hunt, Carol Rush, Rosalie Dillard, and Larry Hunt. Also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and many loving relatives by marriage. JACKSON, VERDA KATHERINE (BROWN) Born August 18, 1916 in Lookout, California. Passed away October 22, 2001 in her Fair Oaks home after suffering a stroke. Wife of Robert Lynn Jackson for 54 years. Beloved Mother of Greg Jackson (Moni), and Geri Christman (Dave). Grandmother of Mike (Cindy), Sean (Heather) Christman, Heather Jackson and Allison Jackson. Adoring Great Grandmother of Jonathan, Ryan, Jacob, Joe Riley, Samuel and Megan. Verda graduated from San Jose State College and went on to teach at Dos Palos until 1943. In 1944 she joined the Red Cross which took her to India to serve. After returning she ran the USO in San Jose, California and married in 1947. She taught at Long Beach State, settled in Sacramento and began teaching at Sacramento State University as a Professor of Business Administration. She retired after 40 years of teaching. She will be sorrowfully missed by many and remembered for her friendly, loving, wise spirit. Verda was definitely a "Lady" with Class. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the celebration of Verdas' life on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001 from 12:00 to 4.00 at the Fair Oaks Grange Hall, located on 7657 Woodland Ln., Fair Oaks. Don't think of her as gone away-her journey's just begun, life holds so many facets- this earth is only one. JUDISH, RONALD E. "RON" Passed away suddenly October 27, 2001 at the age of 61. Born in Hanford, CA to Ralph Judish and Ivy Gregory. He lived in San Ramon, CA and moved to Sacramento in 1972. Ron worked as a lithographer for 30 years and was also self-employed as a professional photographer. Loving husband of Melodie for 17 years. Wonderful father to Rhonda of Reno, NV., Mark (Ursula) of Sandy, UT., Eric of Carmichael, CA., and minor daughter Krystle. Ron faithfully served the Lord within the CA-NV-HI District LCMS, as Deacon of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Folsom and Cordova Lutheran, Rancho Cordova. He also conducted the services at Light of The Hills Lutheran in Cameron Park. Friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Friday Nov. 2nd at 1:00 pm at Town & Country Lutheran Church, 4049 Marconi Avenue, Sacramento. A light reception will follow at the church. KINCAID, KATHRYN L. Born November 16, 1916 in Rush County, Indiana. Passed away October 29, 2001 in Sacramento, California. Kathryn Kincaid was the co-founder of Kincaids's Ethan Allen Gallery. She loved the business she helped start and managed the business until 1990. Tommy and Kathryn (Kay) built the business on wonderful service and a special caring for all their clients. Kathryn was a quiet but strong lady, who had a way of keeping the business together even in tough times. She was delightful to be around, easy to talk to, and always generous in doing what she could for others. Her willingness to listen to anyone at anytime was her greatest gift. Her office door was always open and she gave everyone a caring and concerned heart. She was also a member of the Soroptimist Club. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Tommy Kincaid; and her son, Ted G. Kincaid. She is survived by her son Ron Kincaid and wife Judy; daughter-in-law, Carol Kincaid; grandchildren, Nicole, Brian, and Jennifer Kincaid, Karen Gierman and husband Mike, David, and Tim Kincaid; great-grandchildren, Cheresse, and Megan Kincaid. LAHR, PATRICIA JEAN Of Marysville, passed away October 29, 2001, age 71. Born January 22, 1930 in Gilroy, CA to Russel and Rose (Sories) Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Donald L. Lahr who died May 1, 2001. She is survived by four sons, Donald L. Lahr Jr. of Folsom, John P. of Marysville, Gary J. of Doyle, CA and Robert K. of Citrus Heights; and 8 grandchildren. She was a graduate of Grant High School. Patricia was a homemaker, and loved to travel with her husband, especially after his retirement. She was a wonderful cook and loved her flower garden. According to her wishes, private service will be held. Burial is at Greenwood Memorial Garden Cemetery

LAMBERT, GEORGE Born January 8, 1916. Passed away peacefully October 28, 2001. A native of Turton, SD and a Navy Veteran of WWII. He is survived by his loving wife Jeanne of 56 years; son Robert of Sacramento; grandsons Joshua of Berkeley and Joel of Sacramento; and brother Vern of Bakersfield, numerous friends, nieces and nephews. MARTIN, HERBERT JOHN Passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on October 29, 2001 with his loving family by his bedside. Born March 14, 1909, in Blue Hill, Nebraska. Attended Nebraska Weslyan and Hastings Colleges, excelling in drama, art and football. Moved to California in 1937. He met and married his devoted wife of 62 years, Harriet, who survives him. He is also survived by two adored daughters and their husbands, Carol Schanz (Gary) and Marilyn Buettell (Jim), grandchildren, Gregory Martin, Tracie Schanz, Terry Schanz, Trent Schanz and great grandson, Andrew Schanz. Herbert is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Fine of Fresno, CA and his brother, Edwin Martin and beloved nieces and nephews. He served 3 years in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII. He was a member of the Sacramento Fire Department for 29 years, often cooking for the crew. He was a professional dog handler and bred and showed Cocker Spaniels. Herbert was an accredited camellia judge, past president of the Camellia Society of Sacramento, the Camellia Forum, and a member of the American Camellia Society and Sacramento City Retired Employee Association. Herbert was a kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor who adored his family and liked fishing, hunting, music and ballroom dancing. Visitation will be on November 4, from noon to 4 pm and memorial services will be held Monday, November 5 at 10:00 am at Harry Naumans. Internment to follow at the Masonic Cemetery
on Riverside Boulevard.
MAU, ALICE HUBER Alice passed away peacefully in Sacramento, October 28, 2001, with her daughter by her side. She was born January 3, 1917, in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan, Canada, raised in Lehr, North Dakota, and resided in Sacramento since 1947. Was preceded by her Husband Earle B. Mau. She is survived by her Daughter Caroline Grubbs and Son-in-law Michael Grubbs; Grandson Randy Grubbs, his wife Karen; great grandchildren, Alexandra and Aidan Grubbs; her Brother Jack Huber of Lehr, ND; and nieces Beverly Park of WV and Stephany Yescas of Stockton and nephew Calvin Miller of Sacramento. A quiet, generous and selfless person who touched all who knew her, loved her garden, canning her fruits and vegetables, making patch-work quilts, and braiding rugs. METZLER, ALBERT Born September 1st, 1913 in Los Angeles, California. Died peacefully on March 14th in Carmichael, California of complications from diabetes and heart disease. Beloved father to Tom Metzler of Fair Oaks. Father-in-law to Kathy Metzler and grandfather to Matt and Chris. Preceded in death by Marian Klosterman Metzler, his wife of 48 years, in 1989. Brother to Emma, John, Armida, Kennard, Bertha, Louis and Robert. Worked as a Production Supervisor for Brown International in West Covina, California until his retirement. Forty two year resident of Whittier, California, he moved to Carmichael in 1996 to be closer to his family. Member of Toastmaster's International from 1991-1999. World War II veteran - landed on Day 1 of Normandy invasion as member of 111th Sea Bee Battalion. His ashes were interred next to his Marian at Holy Cross Cemetery
in Culver City, California. He was a wonderful, kind man whose quiet strength, humor and humility will be greatly missed.

MURPHY, JOHN (JACK) VINCENT Passed away in Sacramento on Oct. 30, 2001. Loving father of Christopher Murphy, Matthew Murphy, Teresa Peterson and Jacqueline Heinecke. Grandfather of Michelle Murphy, Kyle Murphy, Katie Murphy, John Peterson and Andrew Peterson. Brother of Patricia Goen. Jack graduated from Saint Ignatius High School in San Francisco and attended Oregon State University and graduated from San Francisco State University. Jack enjoyed playing tennis and golf, bridge, book club, and jazz, visiting family and friends in Seattle, spending time with his family and grandkids and coaching Bambino Baseball. He retired as a Lt. Col. in the Air Force Reserves, and as an administrator with the Sacramento City Unified School District. He is the current president of the Sutter Lawn Tennis Club. RAIMUNDO, BEVERLY JEAN Born July 22, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas. Passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2001. Loving wife of Armando L. Raimundo for 48 Years; also survived by daughter, Claudia Dondero; sister, Patricia Kimbrell; grandsons and great-grandsons; and numerous nephews and nieces. RAWLINSON, LEONARD "RAWLY" Born April 4, 1913, in Victoria, B.C., went to be with the Lord on October 28th at the age of 88. He passed away peacefully, after a long illness, with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Alberta; his daughter, Sharlene Rawlinson St.Clair of Sacramento and sons, Dr. Gary Rawlinson of Folsom, Steve Rawlinson of Roseville, and David Rawlinson of Sacramento, and their families. He also leaves behind seven devoted granddaughters, 2 great-grandchildren, and his twin sister Leonora Nanniga of Vallejo. He served in the National Guard after high school graduation until he enlisted in the Marine Corps during World War II. After the war, he moved his fanmily to Sacramento to start the Parts House at 9th and 0 St. From there he became an automotive part manufacturer representative until he retired at age 70. His early love for hunting and fishing were eventually surpassed by his love of golf. He was a member of Fremont Presbyterian Church for 40 years where he served as elder, and more recently a member of Pleasant Grove Community Church in Roseville for the past 6 years. After being a member of the Masons Golden Empire Lodge #733 for many years, he entered the Scottish Rite and sang with the Chanters. He will be dearly missed by his family, his extended family and many friends. An excellent story teller, the family gatherings will never be the same without his love, warmth, and sense of humor and, of course, the story of "The Hat". A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, at 1:00 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Community Church, 1730 Pleasant Grove Blvd., Roseville. RHORER, THOMAS A. Born June 6, 1938, Tom passed away this past Sunday, October 28, 2001 in Sacramento from complications following a liver transplant after a long and courageous battle with the hepatitis C virus. A loving and supportive father, Tom is survived by his sons Kyle, Trent and Brian and his daughter-in-law Alexis. Tom's greatest joy came from participating in his sons' lives, especially their academic and athletic activities. Tom is also survived by his mother Mildred Judd, her husband James Judd, his brother Phil and Phil's wife Robin, his sons', Kyle's and Trent's mother Susan Burke, and his son's, Brian's mother Nicole Smith. Finally, Tom is survived by his loving companion Lola Aguilar, whose generosity was boundless. A professor of political science at American River College for over 35 years, Tom was passionate about encouraging his students to engage in political thought from the most robust liberal perspective. When not in the classroom, Tom enjoyed golfing, fishing, skiing, traveling, rooting for UCLA athletics, and spending time with his sons and Lola. A service celebrating Tom's life will be held on Friday, November 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria in downtown Sacramento (enter from the alleyway off of J Street between 8th and 9th Streets). ROBERTSON, GLORIA E. Passed away on Monday, October 29, 2001 at her home in Fair Oaks with her devoted husband and immediate family at her side. Born November 2, 1924, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V.P.Manley, she was raised in Champaign, Illinois. Gloria is survived by her loving husband Vernon Robertson, retired USAF; and daughters Lynn Slusser and Jill Badeker. Loving Grandmother of Bret and Ross Slusser, and Hillary and Holly Marriott. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Scates, and a brother, Robert Manley. Gloria was an avid bridge player, a voracious reader, and she participated in the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Festival Society activities. Funeral services will be Friday, November 2, 2001, 12:00pm at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, private graveside rites will follow. In lieu of flowers that family prefers contributions to Mercy San Juan Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
ROBERTSON, WENDELL Born December 4, 1912 in Benton, Illinois. He passed away on October 29, 2001 in Roseville, California. He was predeceased by his wife Ina Rose Robertson. Beloved father to Philip Robertson and his wife Birgit, Barbara Locke and her husband Richard. Beloved grandfather to Ian Robertson, Kristina Robertson, Jeffrey Chastain, Stephen Chastain and his wife Kendra, Jeffrey Locke and his wife Traci, Kelly Locke; Loving great grandfather to 9 great grandchildren and loving brother to Brady Robertson and his wife Josephine. Wendell was raised in Southern Illinois. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, seeing action in the Normandy Invasion and the South Pacific. Following his military service, Wendell and his family farmed in the Benton area for several years before moving to Sacramento. SHINAULT, THOMAS WILKINS LT. COL. (RET) Born June 17, 1924 in Byhalia, Mississippi. Passed away October 30, 2001 in Fair Oaks, California. Retired after 30 years of service with the United States Air Force, as a pilot, intelligence officer, and an engineer. Also retired after 10 years as a Safety Engineer with CIGNA. He had a life-long love of trains, and served as a docent for 15 years at the California Railroad Museum and was a founding member of Operation Lifesaver. Was preceded in death by his infant son: Lance Thomas Shinault, and his brothers: Louis Harold Shinault and Walter Sidney Shinault. Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 57 years: Shirley Ann Shinault, sons: Brian Sneed Shinault and wife Cindy, and Eric Wilkins Shinault, daughters: Rebecca Luigs and husband Tim, and Marcia Shinault Frank and husband Roy, and grandchildren: Beth, Thomas, Trey, Sean, and Ryan. He is also survived by his niece: Cynthia Rosenthal, and a large extended family.
