He fought epic battles with Lymphoma beginning in 1973 and through many courses of chemotherapy and multiple surgical procedures continued to enjoy a remarkably satisfactory quality of life, thanks to his gifted and inspired physicians We express our appreciation for the care of Dr. Edward Lynch, Dr. David Harrison, Dr. Frank Boutin, Dr. Stanley Chew and Dr. Terry Cobb whom he felt were truly renaissance men. Born in Schenectady, NY on July 18, 1916 to Milton H. Wells and Cynthia Steers Wells MD, he graduated from Phillips Andover Academy in 1932, Syracuse University in 1936, and Harvard Business School in 1938 Although working with draft deferred status he insisted on going to war and was a naval commissioned officer in the Pacific from 1944 to 1946. He married Elizabeth Anne Higley, having two children James Wright Wells Jr,, 1944, and Anne Timmons Wells, 1947. He set high standards and encouraged them in the pursuit of their educations, goals, and dreams. They will remain eternally grateful for his support. His greatest joys were two grand children, Colin Wells, 29, and Whitney Wells, 21. His grace, charm, and wisdom flowed naturally into them, his legacy to his family and friends present and not yet born. He was preceded in death by his brother Hewitt S. Wells and his sister Carolyn W. Turnbull with whom he will share his final resting place in NY. His relationship with nephew Frank M. Wells of Ogden, Utah had special meaning and was a wellspring of strength especially in the final months. We all grieve; his death brings sorrow and loneliness too difficult to bear. But, tucked away where it could not be missed he left us a quotation from The Praetorian. His epitaph will read thus: "Life is eternal and love is immortal and what we call death is only the horizon beyond which we cannot see." At his request, the body of James Wright Wells will be returned to dust and ashes for later interment in Schenectady, NY.
