LANCASTER, MILLIE DREE Born in Nehleton, Mississippi on May 17, 1924. On October 23, 2001 she went to join her sons, James, Ray, Jimmy, Don, her daughters Carolyn and Darlene, her mother and father, 4 sisters & 2 brothers. She is survived by her husband Robert of Citrus Heights; her 4 daughters Jean Cornelison of Sacramento , Helen Book of Citrus Heights, Marilyn Largent of Manteca, Charline Young of Converse, TX. 28 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and the future arrival of twin great grandchildren. Services to be held on Monday at 12:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon Memorial Park 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks with viewing on Sunday between 12-5 p.m. also at Mount Vernon. Come join us and celebrate the life of a very special wife, mother, and grandma. She was loved and will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

MAHONEY, RON Born October 25, 1935, passed away peacefully at home, October 22, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. A native of California, born in Glendale and raised in Auburn. He lived in the Sacramento area for many years. Ron is survived by his loving wife Marty of 47 years; son Gary of Auburn; daughter Terry of Granite Bay; sister Barbara Davis of Grass Valley; two grandsons, Jesse and James of Auburn; one niece, Nola Davis of Grass Valley; and numerous friends. He was an avid music lover, a member of the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society and a Jubilee volunteer since 1974. At his request no services are schduled. Beez Kneez Jazz Band's performance, 6 to 9pm on November 13 at Round Table Pizza parlor, Old Sac, will be dedicated to the memory of Ron. Donations may be made to the STJS Jazz Camp. He will be greatly missed by his family and innumerable friends.

MAYER, STANLEY The Native American community lost a great champion on October 23, 2001. Stanley Mayer, a Mono Indian healer, has been called to join his Spirit Helpers. Born December 21, 1947, and raised in North Fork, California, Stanley was the only son of Bill and Sylvena Mayer. Stan spent 24 years at the State Department of Health Services, where he worked to improve the lives of Native Americans throughout California. He was instrumental in organizing the Chaw Se Traditional Medicine Gathering. Because of Stan's vision, the Bear Dance Ceremony has become a treasured annual event at the Round House in Yosemite. Stan was a tireless advocate on behalf of the non-federally- recognized tribes. A Viet Nam veteran, Stan also devoted himself to helping fellow veterans at the yearly Stand Down here in Sacramento. Stan will be sorely missed by his many devoted friends. Remembrances may be made to the Sierra Mono Indian Museum, P.O.Box 1377, and North Fork, CA 93643. Visitation will be Sunday, October 28, from 2:00 to 8:00 at Jays Chapel in Mariposa (559-674-8814). Graveside services will be 1pm Monday, October 29, at the North Fork cemetery. NETHERTON, MARIE ELIZABETH MILLER Born April 15, 1945 in Johannesburg, So. Africa; passed away October 24, 2001 in Wheatland, CA. A resident of Wheatland for 15 years, and owner of the Wheatland Driving Academy for 9 years. She is survived by her husband Royce L. Netherton of Wheatland; sons Christian P. Rohde of Wheatland and James T. Miller of San Antonio,  Texas; daughter Tanya M. Egly of Citrus Heights; five grandchildren; sisters Charlotte Van Rensberg, and Brenda Henshcel, and mother Marie Mare, all of So. Africa. Memorial Services 3:00 PM Sunday, October 27, 2001 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1460 Richland Road, Yuba City, California with Pastor David Calderaro officiating. Burial, Wheatland Cemetery. NEWSOME, SUE ANN Passed away on October 23, 2001 in Roseville, CA. Born on March 9, 1933 in Roanoke, VA, she is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jim Newsome, son Michael Newsome and his wife Monique, granddaughter Vivien Isabella Newsome, brother Richard Newsome and his wife Bev, sister Karen Harvey and her husband Job. Sue is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends who loved her dearly. She is much loved and will be missed. Donations may be made in Sue's memory to St. Francis School, 2529 K Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. Services will be private.

REYNOLDS, RALPH D., M.D. Ralph Duane Reynolds, age 67, of Paoli,  Pennsylvania (a long-time resident of Vacaville and Fairfield), died Friday, October 19, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa with his family at his side. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, doctor, coach, sportsman, author, genealogist and friend. He is survived by his wife, Norita Reynolds, of Paoli,  Pennsylvania; his 3 sons (born to him and Elaine Reynolds-Smith, of Vacaville, California), Daniel Reynolds, of San Jose, California, Barry Reynolds, of Danville, California, and Ronald Reynolds of Fairfield, California; his 2 step-daughters Nancy Anson, of Southampton, Massachusetts; and Susan Robbins, of Boston, Massachusetts; his 9 cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Nicholas and Matthew of San Jose, California, McKinley and Emma of Danville, California, Trina and Kayla of Fairfield, California, and Tressa and Zachary of Southampton, Massachusetts; and his brother, Robert Reynolds, of Pittston,  Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2001 at Rockville Presbyterian Fellowship, 4177-A Suisun Valley Road, Suisun City, California 94585. SAUMURE, MARY MCBRIDE A Sacramento native, fifth generation. Passed away peacefully at her Arden area home on October 26, 2001 with her devoted husband at her side, at age 33, after a courageous, four year battle with breast cancer. Beloved wife of Patrick D. "Butch" Saumure. Daughter of Margo McBride and John (Susan) McBride. Cherished sister of William "Randy" Rupp. Treasured granddaughter of EmaLorene Halligan and the late Delton E. Halligan of Sacramento and Charlotte Graham of Ottawa, Canada. Cherished daughter-in-law of Patrick M. and "Frankie" Saumure. Sister-in-law of Kathleen "Kate", Gregory, and Michael (Vivian) Saumure. Beloved niece of Marie (Michael) Carter of Folsom, Patrick Halligan and Roger Teske of Sacramento, Gary Teske of Redding, and Cairine & Casper Harchut of Huntington Beach. Cousin of Daniel & Jeffrey Carter of Folsom. Born May 7, 1968, attended local schools. An honors graduate of El Camino High School, class of 1986, where she served two years as President of Key (Kiwanis) Club and refined her language skills as an AFS exchange student to Loire, France. A 1990 graduate of U.C. Davis, majoring in International Relations, also fluent in French. Proudly, a member of the U.C. Davis Woman's Crew (rowing) Team, competing in the Pacific Western Rowing Championships. An esteemed employee for Diamond of California Inc. through 1999, serving as International Sales Service Manager, working with international brokers for the transportation and distribution of walnuts to Western European countries. Recognized by Diamond of California as Management Employee of the Year for 1996. An athletic, avid bicyclist and member of Ophir-Milan Woman's Cycling Club. With her husband "Butch" Saumure, she enjoyed international travel to various countries, cooking, and entertaining family and friends. Her wonderful garden is a living tribute to her love of plants and flowers. A beautiful spirit, admired for her willowy poise and grace, as well as her resolve and intelligence, she will be sorely missed. TANNEHILL, JOYCE D. 1918 - 2001 Born on Sept. 29, 1918 and passed away on October 21, 2001. She was a native Californian and the third generation of her family to be born in Oroville. Her great grandparents (Layson) came across the plains on a wagon train. She was a 60 year resident of the Roseville area. Joyce was a schoolteacher in the Arcade - San Juan School districts for 35 years. During this time she was active in many Masonic Organizations. She served as Guardian and Deputy Grand Guardian of Job's Daughters, was Past Matron of O.E.S. and also active in the  White Shrine and Amaranth. Preceded in death by her husband Thomas H. Tannehill. She is survived by her son Larry Tannehill of Roseville, daughter Lynn Bain of Panama City Florida, two grandchildren, Donald Bain, & wife Ruby, Lisa Gross, & husband Jerry and one great granddaughter, her sister Gloria Smith & brother in law Clayton and two nieces Corrine Foster, & husband Bill, Carol Burns & husband Ron. There will be no services as per her request; those who wish to make a remembrance may contribute to the local youth groups, which she always supported. She will be greatly missed.

THORNTON, SYBIL KOPP In Carmichael, Oct. 25, 2001. A native of Saskatchewan, Canada, age 89 years. Wife of the late Lawrence Thornton. Beloved mother of Victoria Zirkle and husband Christopher, Olivia Donahue and husband John III, and the late Richard Thornton. Grandmother of Joan Welchman and husband Jeff, John Donahue IV, and Andrew Donahue. Great-grandmother of Brittany & Allison Welchman. Friends are invited to attend Viewing Mon. WATERMAN, Donald James LT. COL. USAF (RET.) In Sacramento on October 25, 2001. A native of Connecticut. Aged 70 years. Beloved husband for 43 years of Trudy. Devoted father of David with wife Nancy, Mark with wife Susan and Scott with wife Kathleen Waterman, Patty with husband Doug Zylstra and Dawn Waterman with husband Bill Budd. Dear grandfather of 16. Loving brother of Ellen Layman. Preceded in death by his brother Robert. Mr. Waterman passed away after an 18-year battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He had 5000 flying hours in MAC, Air Rescue, SAC and served honorably in Vietnam, a member of Daedalions, Sons of the American Revolution, a Rotarian for 19 years and the Benefits Supervisor at Raleys until his retirement in 1995. Friends are welcome to attend the Recitation of the Rosary at 6:45 PM and a Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 PM on October 29, 2001 at Presentation Catholic Church, 4123 Robertson Ave. Sac., CA. WOLPERT, MARTIN C. A long time Sacramento resident and home builder died in Omaha, Nebraska.
Mr. Wolpert was 90 years old.
He is survived by his son and daughter in-law, Laurence & Emily Wolpert of Omaha, NE, sisters Adelaide Hendersson of Westcliffe, CO and Dorothy Reighard of Ft. Meyers, FL. Mr. Wolpert is interred at Sierra Hills Memorial Park Veterans Memorial in Carmichael, CA.

ZENDER, (ERSKYNE) LORRAINE B. Age 78 in Sacramento, on October 24, 2001. A native of Gadsden, AL. and a Sacramento resident for 38 years. Beloved wife of LCDR Ralph J. (Zip) Zender, USN (Ret.); Loving mother of Kathryn (Kathy) Zender Di Minno and Margaret (Margo) Zender. Beloved "Gramzee" of Lea and Allyana Wiviott. Daughter of the late John Henry C. and Minnie Baker. Sister of Ralph Baker and the late James & Clyde Baker, Virginia Carr, Mary Franklin, and Geraldine Stancill. Also surviving are a number of nieces & nephews. Mrs. Zender served in the U.S. Navy Waves during WWII as a Chief Petty Officer at Pensacola, FL. She was a member of the Sacramento EX Waves, the Assoc. Officers Wives Club and Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation. Honoring Mrs. Zenders' wishes there will be no funeral services. The Neptune Society of No Ca. will be in charge of cremation & scattering at sea. AZEVEDO, RICHARD D. In Sacramento, Age 59. A life long resident of Sacramento, born April 28, 1942. Preceded in death by his father, Virgil S. Azevedo and his grandparents, Pansy B. and Dr. Manuel L. Azevedo and Lelia Belle Wyatt. Survived by his mother, Merle L. Azevedo. His wife, Patricia, father of Kevin, Christy and Eric. Richard was a graduate of Hiram  Johnson H.S. where he was a member of the football and track teams. He graduated from California State University at San Francisco in 1966. After completion of college he served in the Army for two years at the rank of Sergent. He became a licensed architect in 1982, and worked for the University of California at Davis, Office of Architects and Engineers for more than 25 years. He was especially proud that he was project manager for the Comparative Medicine facility and the Vet Med Diagnostic Lab. In 1989 he received an A & PS Achievement Award from UCD for outstanding performance. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, and participated in the annual  White Knuckle Downhill Race held at Northstar. He will be missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 10 AM at Andrews & Greilich Mortuary, 3939 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.

BEDEAU, KATHRYN A. Died peacefully at her home, on October 23rd, 2001. She was born September 13th, 1906, in Janesville, Lassen Co. CA. A second generation native Californian, she was the second daughter, of four children born to Harry and Lilia Fitch. Kathryn lived on the family farm until the age of 13 when she went to work and attend Portola high school. Kathryn graduated valedictorian of her class in 1924. She moved to Sacramento where she graduated from and taught at Heald Business College. Her first position was in the law firm of Henry and Bedeau as a legal secretary. In March of 1933, Kathryn married Grover W. Bedeau, who was later appointed judge of the Superior Court of California, by then Governor Earl Warren. Kathryn & Grover raised two children, enjoyed their home in East Sacramento, and spent summertime at Lake Tahoe. She was heavily involved with many community organizations including, Sacramento Camp Fire Girls, the Legal Aide Society, the PTA and the American Red Cross among others. Following the death of Judge Bedeau in 1957, she returned to work first in the county clerks office, then later as a legal secretary and finally court reporter to the State of California, Third Appellate Court. Following her retirement she continued to serve the community with the Legal Aide Society and the Sacramento Childrens Recieving Home, and was a longstanding member and deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed traveling, and her family. She is survived by her sister Marie Sullivan, brother Marion Fitch, daughter Deanna Pritchard and her husband William Pritchard, son Grover W. Bedeau Jr. and his wife Kay Bedeau, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and dedicated caretakers. She was well loved by her family and many friends. Friends are invited to attend the memorial service Saturday, 11:00am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 N St, Sacramento, CA 95814, followed by inturnment at East Lawn Memorial Park. BORRE, MARY E. Passed away on October 4, 2001 in Sacramento.
She was born on January 20, 1937 and was a resident of Elk Grove for the past 15 years.
Lovingly known as Granny Goose, she is survived by her husband Jim and sons Michael and Matthew.
She was a devoted grandmother to Nathan, Kaylee, Kristin, Nickelous and Elizabeth.
Family and friends are invited to an open house in celebration of her life on Sunday, October 28th from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at 12215 Blake Rd. in Wilton.

BURGER, LAVELL R. Lavell passed away October 21, 2001 in Sacramento, CA, at the age of 81. Born October 21, 1920 in Spring City, UT. Beloved mother of Brian Burger of Carmichael, CA, Celia Royer of Santa Rosa, CA, Nancy Brooks of Redmond, WA, Claudia Stone of Mountain View, CA, Phyllis The of Palo Alto, CA, and Caren Goody of Elk Grove, CA. She is survived by 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Loving sister to Jewell Rasmussen of Salt Lake City, UT and Della Oldham of Reno, NV. A resident of Sacramento for 25 years and a lifetime active member of the LDS Faith. Her love and passion will be missed by those who knew her. Friends and relatives are welcome for viewing on Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, from 4-8PM and funeral service on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at 11AM, at Sacramento Memorial Lawn, 6100 Stockton Blvd.

JACK F. Born May 24, 1927 in Modesto, Ca., passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, in his home on October 23, 2001, after a long illness. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years Arlene, son David and daughter-in-law Kathy, of Columbus, Ohio, son Warren and daughter-in-law Cami, of Hercules, Ca. daughter Lenore of Sacramento and sisters Elaine Haskin and Martha Schlander of Modesto, Ca. He will be missed by many more friends and family. Jack was a public accountant and successful businessman in Sacramento. He owned the Yolo Club in West Sacramento from 1974 to 1987. He was also a member in good standing of the  Washington Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons of California. Jack was a long time resident of El Macero, Ca. where, as an avid golfer, the only thing he enjoyed more then spending time on the links was being with his family and friends. Jack was a man of dignity, honor, strength, courage and love. He will be sorely missed by those whose lives he graced. DARLAND, MARY DOLORES (URUETA) A long time resident of Sacramento passed away October 21, 2001, in Lancaster, California. She was born in Independence, Kansas on September 22, 1912. Mary met her husband John while attending Burton Avenue Baptist Church in Waterloo, Iowa. They were married in 1936. They made their residence in Iowa until the beginning of WWII. At that time they moved to Vancouver,  Washington, in order for John to get into war work. At the end of the war they moved to Sacramento where she resided for 46 years. John and Mary were founding members of Central Baptist Church where Mary served as a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, choir member and soloist. Mary also opened her home weekly to children for a Good News Club. Mary worked at Libby's cannery, California Almond Growers and Sacramento City College where she was supervisor in Food Services. Mary is survived by her five children: Richard Darland and wife Elaine of Huntington Beach,  Calif., Charles Darland and wife Barbara of Redmond, Oregon, Corrinne Lindemuth and husband Bob of Brookville, Penn., Naomi Snow and husband Bob of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Sylva Robinson and husband Roger of Lancaster,  Calif. There are 14 grandchildren Ronald and Richard Darland, Philip, Paul and Peter Lindemuth, Daniel Robinson, Malinda Darland Cooper, Roseanna Darland Allen, Kimberley Snow Horner, Kolette Snow Thompson, Kristen Snow Ball, Klarrisa Snow, Rachel Robinson Smith and Pamela Lindemuth Prinkey. There are 18 great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her sister Juanita Jameson of Sacramento,  Calif. Mary was preceded in death by her husband John, a daughter-in-law, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter. In addition to being a pianist and artist, Mary captivated her audiences with colorful and lively storytelling. She touched many lives and will be sorely missed. Mary had lived in Lancaster,  Calif. for the last five years. In Lancaster there will be a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. at Living Way Foursquare Church on Friday, October 26, 2001. In Sacramento visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2001. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2001, at Harry Nauman and Son. Internment to follow at East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Revival Fires Ministry, P.O. Box 1008, Branson West, MO 65737.
