EVANS, JOHN H. Beloved husband of Marcia Lynn Evans, went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2001. Born in Los Angeles, California on September 15, 1946, he is survived by his loving wife, Marcia, his loving children, Jill, Bob, Kory, Trina, Brian and Shelby, his parents George and Jerry Evans and his sisters, Katy Evans and Lisa Jones. He was preceded in death by his late sister Gloria Mallen. John was a graduate of USC and a business owner of Evans Mortgage in Sacramento for the past 11 years. John will be remembered by all who crossed his path for his intelligence and generous spirit as well as his warm sense of humor and large collection of Hawaiian shirts. He had a love for music, gardening, golf, and above all family, friends and his Lord. We will love him forever. HARDING, JAMES WILLIAM In Sacramento on October 27, 2001. Beloved father of Jimmy Harding, Carrie Cathalifaud & Staci Stenroos. Great grandfather of 7. Sweetheart of Dee Aston. A native of Sacramento aged 66 years. HARLAN, MARILYN K. Age 69, passed away at her home in Carmichael on October. 26, 2001. She is survived by her children, Susan C. Harlan, Patricia A. Harlan, Robert R. Harlan Jr., son-in-law Cal Johnson, sister Lila Thaden, niece Julie Scott and nephew Michael Thaden. Marilyn truly loved life to the fullest even during her very debilitating illness. The light of her life has gone to be enjoyed by her heavenly Father. Her special sparkle will be greatly missed--yet our hearts will burn brightly forever with her memory. HARRIS, MARY LEE GERBICH Age 76, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2001, after a short illness related to carcinoma, at Sutter General Hospital. Born November 14, 1924, in Highland Boy, Bingham Canyon, Utah, to Bude and Staka Gerbich. She worked for Pacific Bell in Sacramento for over 30 years. She was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital for 30 years. Preceded in death by her parents, sister Mildred and brothers Pete and Robert. Survived by sisters Anna Lisnich, Roseville, CA; Dorothy Kenner, New York City; brother Mike Gerbich, Midvale, Utah; many nieces and nephews, and long-time close friend Ernestina Rosenthal and daughter Kim Ismail. Friends are welcome for visitation Tuesday, October 30th, from 12pm to 7pm and are invited to attend Funeral Services on Wednesday, October 31st at 11:30am, all at NICOLETTI, CULJIS & HERBERGER, 5401 Folsom Blvd. Entombment, East Lawn Cemetery. HEDDING JR., WALTER W. Born July 17, 1919 in Chicago, IL, passed away October 28, 2001. He was a longtime resident of Sacramento for 65 years. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Gladys, and his daughter, Loel (Moore) Hedding. Beloved father of Nina Fenton and husband Fred, and Walter W. Hedding III. Special grandfather of Fred Fenton Jr. and wife Jeannine, Monica Smirl and husband Bill, Michele Hedding, Jim Fenton, Marcie Hedding, Walter W. Hedding IV and wife Chevi, and Melinda Hedding. Cherished great-grandfather of seven; Walter also leaves behind his dearest friend, Margaret Clemens. Walter graduated from McClatchy High School in 1939. He was a constructional iron worker for four years, and a Navy officer serving during WWII in the Pacific and European theaters. Walter was a business owner for 29 years, running H&H Drape Rite. He was a proud member of Carmichael Elks Club, and member and past Commodore of the Sacramento Yacht Club. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service Thursday, Nov. 1, 7:30pm at the Sacramento Yacht Club, 3365 South River Rd, West Sacramento.

HELTON, YOLANDA M. In Sacramento, October 28, 2001. Beloved daughter of Romona Price and stepdaughter of Jimmie Price. Loving sister of Denise Butler and Dennis Cooper. Caring Granddaughter of John & Mattie Newsome and Leona Wallace and great granddaughter of Marjorie Cortes. Also leaves a host of other loving relatives and friends. HUNT SR., DARREL RAY Born November 9, 1953 in Sacramento. Passed away at home on October 29, 2001. Loving husband of Gail and beloved father of Darrel and Cassandra. Loving son of Margie Ogden and the late Lloyd Hunt, and loving brother to Dean Hunt, Carol Rush, Rosalie Dillard, and Larry Hunt. Also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and many loving relatives by marriage. Friends are invited to attend a brief grave site service Thursday, November 1, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park, Folsom Blvd. and 43rd St., Sacramento, followed by a celebration of life at Mr. Hunt's home in Sacramento.

JACKSON, VERDA KATHERINE (BROWN) Born August 18, 1916 in Lookout, California. Passed away October 22, 2001 in her Fair Oaks home after suffering a stroke. Wife of Robert Lynn  Jackson for 54 years. Beloved Mother of Greg  Jackson (Moni), and Geri Christman (Dave). Grandmother of Mike (Cindy), Sean (Heather) Christman, Heather  Jackson and Allison Jackson. Adoring Great Grandmother of Jonathan, Ryan, Jacob, Joe Riley, Samuel and Megan. Verda graduated from San Jose State College and went on to teach at Dos Palos until 1943. In 1944 she joined the Red Cross which took her to India to serve. After returning she ran the USO in San Jose, California and married in 1947. She taught at Long Beach State, settled in Sacramento and began teaching at Sacramento State University as a Professor of Business Administration. She retired after 40 years of teaching. She will be sorrowfully missed by many and remembered for her friendly, loving, wise spirit. Verda was definitely a "Lady" with Class. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the celebration of Verdas' life on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001 from 12:00 to 4.00 at the Fair Oaks Grange Hall, located on 7657 Woodland Ln., Fair Oaks. Don't think of her as gone away-her journey's just begun, life holds so many facets- this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from sorrows and the tears in a place where there are no days and years. Think how she must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. JUDISH, RONALD E. "RON" Passed away suddenly October 27, 2001 at the age of 61. Born in Hanford, CA to Ralph Judish and Ivy Gregory. He lived in San Ramon, CA and moved to Sacramento in 1972. Ron worked as a lithographer for 30 years and was also self-employed as a professional photographer. Loving husband of Melodie for 17 years. Wonderful father to Rhonda of Reno, NV., Mark (Ursula) of Sandy, UT., Eric of Carmichael, CA., and minor daughter Krystle. Ron faithfully served the Lord within the CA-NV-HI District LCMS, as Deacon of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Folsom and Cordova Lutheran, Rancho Cordova. He also conducted the services at Light of The Hills Lutheran in Cameron Park. Friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Friday Nov. 2nd at 1:00 pm at Town & Country Lutheran Church, 4049 Marconi Avenue, Sacramento. A light reception will follow at the church. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Ron's adult children have established a memorial fund at any US Bank, account #153750867589, to assist Melodie and to assure Krystle a steadfast christian future. KABAKOV, IRVIN (IRV) Born September 28, 1917, died October 27, 2001. Survived by wife of 61 years, Rose; daughter, Carole Mayer (Palm Beach, Florida); son, David Kabakov (Palo Alto); son-in-law, Howard; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Laurel; and daughter-in-law, Mary. In 1970, after 32 years of Federal Service, retired from McClellan Air Force Base as Deputy Chief of Production Control and later Deputy Chief of Quality Control Division. Served in the Army Air Force at Hamilton Air Force Base for 3 years. Graduated from Sacramento City College and attended California State University. He was active for 10 years in the Civic Organizations of Sacramento Society for the Blind and Director of Information Services for Sacramento Area Easter Seals Society. Was appointed to Sacramento County Commission on Aging where he served as Chairman. He was a member of the Mosaic Law Synagogue since 1941. Those wishing to can make donations to Mosaic Law or Ethel MacLeod Hart Senior Center Triple R Alzheimer Program. The Funeral will be held at the Home of Peace, 6200 Stockton Blvd. at 11:00AM on Wednesday October 31, 2001. LAMBERT, GEORGE Born January 8, 1916. Passed away peacefully October 28, 2001. A native of Turton, SD and a Navy Veteran of WWII. He is survived by his loving wife Jeanne of 56 years; son Robert of Sacramento; grandsons Joshua of Berkeley and Joel of Sacramento; and brother Vern of Bakersfield, numerous friends, nieces and nephews. MACIEL, TONYA Of Sacramento, CA, age 59 years, passed away, with her family at her side, in Sacramento on October 29, 2001. Born in Glendale, CA, her family moved to Lodi in 1953. She graduated from Lodi High School in 1960, and was married to Fred Maciel in 1963. After raising her children and working for the State of California for 20 years, she retired earlier this year as an executive secretary. She especially enjoyed shopping, traveling, baking, and reading. She is survived by her husband; Frederick Maciel of Sacramento; her children, Tamara Maciel of San Diego, Walter Maciel of San Francisco and Trisha Maciel of Sacramento; her father, Anthony Bettencourt of Lodi; her brothers, Don and Ron Bettencourt of Lodi; and her sister, Trina Miller of Galt; her mother-in-law, Nadine Maciel of Visalia; her future son-in-law, Jim Bannan of San Diego. Also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorraine Bettencourt. A Mass of Christian Burial and Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday at 11am at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 950 S. Lincoln Way, in GaIt. MAU, ALICE HUBER Alice passed away peacefully in Sacramento, October 28, 2001, with her daughter by her side. She was born January 3, 1917, in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan, Canada, raised in Lehr, North Dakota, and resided in Sacramento since 1947. Was preceded by her Husband Earle B. Mau. She is survived by her Daughter Caroline Grubbs and Son-in-law Michael Grubbs; Grandson Randy Grubbs, his wife Karen; great grandchildren, Alexandra and Aidan Grubbs; her Brother Jack Huber of Lehr, ND; and nieces Beverly Park of WV and Stephany Yescas of Stockton and nephew Calvin Miller of Sacramento. A quiet, generous and selfless person who touched all who knew her, loved her garden, canning her fruits and vegetables, making patch-work quilts, and braiding rugs. NEBGEN, ARTHUR D. Born November 20, 1942, passed away at home on October 28, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Mary for 31 years. Arthur is survived by his mother, Huzel; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Myra; sisters-in-law, Barbara, Marjorie, and Dianne; brothers-in-law, Frank and Edward; mother- and father-in-law, Mary and Ed Fochtman; nieces and nephews, Michelle, Michael, Elizabeth, and Matthew; great niece, Jessica; and great nephews, Tyler and Shaun Kenta. Arthur worked at Filter Products, Inc. He had a passion for building cars and he fabricated unique vehicles from plans that he created himself. He had a wonderful sense of humor and lived life to the fullest, right to the end. He brightened the lives of everyone who knew him. He was greatly loved, and he will be sorely missed. At his request, no services will be held. A Mass will be dedicated in his honor on November 1, 2001 at 9:00am at Immaculate Conception Church, 3263 1st Ave, Sacto.

OUTLAW, EARL THOMAS JR. In Sacramento on October 27, 2001. Beloved son of Earl & Mary Outlaw. Loving brother of Gloria J. Phanton & Felix J. Phanton, Jr. Dearest uncle of Frank & his wife Susie and Angela Phanton. Also survived by his grand nieces & nephews, Joe, Forrest, Chelsea and Jacob, his aunts Ruth Taylor, Annie Kling, Norma Jaqua and cousins. He was a member of the Church of the Nazareen. He graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School, Concord, Mass on June 9, 1962. He was employed for 26 years at McClellan A.F.B. & 2 years at Doubletree Hotel. He enjoyed square dancing, T.V. Trivia and an avid collector of memorabilia. PALEY, ELLA THURS "Honey" Born in Galt, Ca May 19, 1920, passed away in Sacramento October 28, 2001 at the age of 81 years. Dearly beloved wife of 63 years of Arthur Paley. Devoted grandmother of Bob Edwards (Judi), Greg Edwards, Laura Walker (John), Wendi Vaandering (Dan) and great grandmother of Andrea, Christina, Kathy,  Taylor and Alex. RAWLINSON, LEONARD "RAWLY" Born April 4, 1913, in Victoria, B.C., went to be with the Lord on October 28th at the age of 88. He passed away peacefully, after a long illness, with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Alberta; his daughter, Sharlene Rawlinson St.Clair of Sacramento and sons, Dr. Gary Rawlinson of Folsom, Steve Rawlinson of Roseville, and David Rawlinson of Sacramento, and their families. He also leaves behind seven devoted granddaughters, 2 great-grandchildren, and his twin sister Leonora Nanniga of Vallejo. He served in the National Guard after high school graduation until he enlisted in the Marine Corps during World War II. After the war, he moved his fanmily to Sacramento to start the Parts House at 9th and 0 St. From there he became an automotive part manufacturer representative until he retired at age 70. His early love for hunting and fishing were eventually surpassed by his love of golf. He was a member of Fremont Presbyterian Church for 40 years where he served as elder, and more recently a member of Pleasant Grove Community Church in Roseville for the past 6 years. After being a member of the Masons Golden Empire Lodge #733 for many years, he entered the Scottish Rite and sang with the Chanters. He will be dearly missed by his family, his extended family and many friends. An excellent story teller, the family gatherings will never be the same without his love, warmth, and sense of humor and, of course, the story of "The Hat". A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, at 1:00 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Community Church, 1730 Pleasant Grove Blvd., Roseville. If desired, in lieu of flowers, he may be remembered with a donation to the Alzheimer's Disease Center, 4860 Y St., Suite 3900, Sacto., CA 95817, or to Pleasant Grove Community Church.

RHORER, THOMAS A. Born June 6, 1938, Tom passed away this past Sunday, October 28, 2001 in Sacramento from complications following a liver transplant after a long and courageous battle with the hepatitis C virus. A loving and supportive father, Tom is survived by his sons Kyle, Trent and Brian and his daughter-in-law Alexis. Tom's greatest joy came from participating in his sons' lives, especially their academic and athletic activities. Tom is also survived by his mother Mildred Judd, her husband James Judd, his brother Phil and Phil's wife Robin, his sons', Kyle's and Trent's mother Susan Burke, and his son's, Brian's mother Nicole Smith. Finally, Tom is survived by his loving companion Lola Aguilar, whose generosity was boundless. A professor of political science at American River College for over 35 years, Tom was passionate about encouraging his students to engage in political thought from the most robust liberal perspective. When not in the classroom, Tom enjoyed golfing, fishing, skiing, traveling, rooting for UCLA athletics, and spending time with his sons and Lola. A service celebrating Tom's life will be held on Friday, November 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria in downtown Sacramento (enter from the alleyway off of J Street between 8th and 9th Streets). There will be a reception at the same location immediately following the service. Remembrances in Tom's name can be made to the Central California Hemophilia Foundation, P.O. ROBERTSON, GLORIA E. Passed away on Monday, October 29, 2001 at her home in Fair Oaks with her devoted husband and immediate family at her side. Born November 2, 1924, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V.P.Manley, she was raised in Champaign, Illinois. Gloria is survived by her loving husband Vernon Robertson, retired USAF; and daughters Lynn Slusser and Jill Badeker. Loving Grandmother of Bret and Ross Slusser, and Hillary and Holly Marriott. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Scates, and a brother, Robert Manley. Gloria was an avid bridge player, a voracious reader, and she participated in the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Festival Society activities. Funeral services will be Friday, November 2, 2001, 12:00pm at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, private graveside rites will follow. In lieu of flowers that family prefers contributions to Mercy San Juan Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

AZEVEDO, RICHARD D. In Sacramento, Age 59. A life long resident of Sacramento, born April 28, 1942. Preceded in death by his father, Virgil S. Azevedo and his grandparents, Pansy B. and Dr. Manuel L. Azevedo and Lelia Belle Wyatt. Survived by his mother, Merle L. Azevedo. His wife, Patricia, father of Kevin, Christy and Eric. Richard was a graduate of Hiram  Johnson H.S. where he was a member of the football and track teams. He graduated from California State University at San Francisco in 1966. After completion of college he served in the Army for two years at the rank of Sergent. He became a licensed architect in 1982, and worked for the University of California at Davis, Office of Architects and Engineers for more than 25 years. He was especially proud that he was project manager for the Comparative Medicine facility and the Vet Med Diagnostic Lab. In 1989 he received an A & PS Achievement Award from UCD for outstanding performance. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, and participated in the annual  White Knuckle Downhill Race held at Northstar. He will be missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 10 AM at Andrews & Greilich Mortuary, 3939 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.

AUGER, FRANCYS L. Passed away on October 20th, 2001 in Lincoln, CA. She was born on January 25, 1911 in Omaha, NE. Francys is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Hosmer, foster daughter Loyle Lee, brothers, Franklin Matthews and Victor Matthews, niece Anne Gartner and numerous other nieces and nephews. Services will be announced. Donations in Francys's memory may be made to the World Wildlife Fund, 1250 24th Street, NW,  Washington, DC 20037.

BADGLEY, THELMA E. Born January 22, 1919 in Kingsburg, California. Passed away October 20, 2001 in Citrus Heights, California. She was Past Queen of the Menzelah Temple of the Daughters of the Nile, Past Matron of the Rainbow Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, member of the Rising Star Chapter #36 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also Past President of Allied Arts, member of the Monitor Lodge of the Swedish American Association, and member of the Tuesday Club. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years: Charles A. Badgley. She is survived by 3 stepchildren, and close friends: Maxine Mapes, Florence Bean, William Waite, and Fane Tell. Friends are invited to visitation Thursday, October 25, 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 26, 2:00 PM in the Church of the Valley at Mount Vernon Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, California.
